The other part I find assuming (as an Army guy) is that HMAS Cerberus is now the name of the RAN's training school for naval ratings (still in Victoria). I'm unsure if the dog is "guarding the gates of hell" into Cerberus, or guarding the gates facing in so those posted to Cerberus can't escape.

Maths with Drach. Come back next week and learn about the differential calculus involved in the making of a cappuccino. Don't forget to bring your slide rule!

6:22 Is that Garden Island in Sydney?

Something I've never understood. Your opening sequence was all about the different types of 16" rounds, but they were basically all full bore AP / APBC. Why did large calibre naval gunnery stay with that technology? I ask as an Armoured Corps Officer, I'm familiar with the evolution from say AP to APBC to APDS and now APFSDS. A 16" APFSDS round would seem to provide much better KE / penetration effects. A modern 120mm Tk gun can impart a muzzle velocity of around 1500 - 1700 m/s for an APFSDS round. Perhaps its harder to achieve very high muzzle velocities with large diameter naval guns? Maybe they just had sufficient stocks of existing ammunition types? Perhaps the move to missiles made the research into more advanced ammunition natures redundant?

Right so its just like tank gunnery (albeit at longer range) - got it.

@Drachinifel 13:52: FYI I'm not sure if its changed since the Second World War, but "RAS" is now termed Replenishment At Sea.

Some familiar "guest voices". A suggestion - it may have been clearer if the various model bases were colour coded.

Half the entertainment value is hearing Drach's attempts at pronunciation.

Batavia = WA's version of "Survivor".
