@blaydCA Not not really. These are slightly more official than redneck backyard plans. We develop them based on the global implications of one day in November.
1
Sal, I'm going through your back catalogue and this (and the two prior ones on this subject) just gob smacks me. I'm an Army guy but I can't understand how the USN lost this major platform. I guess the PLAN at least is happy!
1
Two Videos!
1
Right so like 90% of YouTube, Mr Zeihan's stuff is full of self oppinionated hyperbole and BS. Glad I don't subscribe to it and I certainly wont waste any money on any of his books.
1
No drinking game today?
1
"Formal Hawaiian"?
1
A new drinking game - "Guess the next number!" Congratulations on the subscription milestone!
1
I'm sure all the New Jersey residents would have exercised their 2nd Amendment rights.
1
For the rest of us - 1L of water has a mass of 1Kg. I suspect that while salt water is not exactly the same as fresh water, its near enough to get an idea of the effect. Surely even using an air compressor they could have a cut off designed to stop inflating if you get to X psi?
1
@k53847 or even metres :)
1
"Pirate Action Group"? Are we really promoting Pirates to the same type of nomenclature as a "Surface Action Group" (SAG) or a "Carrier Strike Group" (CSG)?
1
Hope you had a good BBQ / whatever last Thursday your time.
1
My thoughts are with the Crew Chief and the survivor guilt he/she is no doubt feeling because they survived but most of their team didn't.
1
Disappointed - there was scope there for a multi star drinking game! ;)
1
Right so basically a Course of Action (COA) Analysis wargame? I also love that Army level (XXXX) is "granularity". :)
1
Just jumped from the "live" chat with Ward Carroll back to here. "Too much Sam is never enough."
1
That proposed JLOTS plan now seems in the balance, given IDF strikes on World Central Kitchen in Gaza. Pointless unloading stores on the pier if no one is going to distribute it.
1
I'm always up for some ongoing professional development. I would love to join in via a vid con (even if it means being up in the middle of the night).
1
Sal turned up to 11.
1
The return of the "morale dog" and the Cookies (biscuits in the real world)!
1
Too much Swan Lager? Happy Father's Day for tomorrow (I know its celebrated on a different date in the US).
1
Another spectator sport looming for the rest of us - I'll grab my Australian grown popcorn and get a comfy chair.
1
Sal, No helmet? Also here we don't have "Ranchers", we have "Pastoralists" for sheep producers. Cattle = "beef producers". "Grazier" covers both. Perhaps the Iranian "carrier" could accidentally run into a Mk48 torpedo?
1
We obviously need a bunch of Iranian UAVs to unload and manage the container rotation on East Coast US ports.😉 Seriously though, thanks for continuing to provide clarity on this.
1
01:13: "a person familiar with the negotiations" is a pretty broad group. I would have thought any of your subscribers or anyone who watched the TV or read a paper in the US would be "familiar".
1
Oh Georgia the US State, not Georgia the country? Get better.
1
Why should the Russians have all the fun.
1
I didn't realise they'd be back to back as a continuation project while you are on well deserved holidays. I'm currently watching the daily installments, but perhaps I should re-watch as a binge activity later.
1
I hadn't realised that the U boats were more effective in the First World War than the Second.
1
Sal, safe flight!
1
11:55: I'm not sure a detachment of USMC armed with small arms and maybe some crew served weapons, could do much against a inbound cruise or ballistic missile (they tend not to have a CWIS or a Patriot battery in their kit). Protection against small boats or "repelling boarders" is not the predominate threat in the Red Sea.
1
2M people = 6M meals a day ideally. A MRE is "a" meal, not a 24hr ration pack. In addition, I presume the US is also supplying medical stores, fuel for generators, fresh water, etc. If all they are shipping are Halal MREs, you'll need an outbound route to backload the rubbish.
1
I'm confused. Admittedly I haven't watched the entire video from C-SPAN or whatever, but I don't understand why a US Lawmaker is asking a Trade Union leader about the policy regarding the employment of the USN. Shouldn't it be SECDEF, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, or the CNO?
1
Sorry but I couldn’t think of spending x weeks locked up in a boat with a bunch of people who are there for the duty free booze.
1
I don't know Hindi either but given the shared British military heritage (and the corresponding actions on the video) I suspect they are fire control orders - Load, Action, Instant ...
1
As usual a concise, accurate summary.
1
Thanks Sal. I'm interested as an overseas bystander in the 2nd and 3rd order effects of whoever gets in. Thankfully where I live voting is compulsory if you are over 18 so you avoid some of the, what appear to me to be, frantic attempts to get people "off the couch" and out to tick a box.
1
Sal for the Gold Moochie!
1
Army does it because Navies have no interest. Navies (USN, RAN, RN, ...) are only really interested in "sexy blue water" stuff.
1
I'm guessing Naval "damage control" responses aren't really taught / used in the merchant marine?
1
@leojohn1615 I didn't say they were. The poster explained that they do have a degree of training but not the same and that their limited crew (and no doubt lack of shoring, etc.) makes it harder.
1
Five times the mass of IJN Yamato and handles like a brick.
1
Ok, I guess the RN and RAF can go home if its just a USN show? ;)
1
Plankowner CO wouldn't be happy. :(
1
Right so an E1 sees smoke and they get to ring the O8 / O9? Let me guess - IJN Taihō is now a case study at Annapolis on how USN Damage Control should work?
1
I presume the pilots when they board are briefing on the engine configuration? That is, he was aware that this vessel had direct drive and that there would be a lag between directing full astern and the vessel reacting?
1
@wgowshipping Thanks Sal.
1
FYI, your channel was acknowledged today in another live stream re global shipping and the logistic friction points for "part build" models.
1
@wgowshipping Sure. "Hobby Time Modelers" (https://www.youtube.com/@htm_usa). They often talk about these car or ship models, where you receive it in X instalments over so many months. Often they have to wait ages because their next instalment is held up somewhere.
1
Time to grab a slab I guess.
