On the English language subject. I was asked by an American, why we don't speak a European language in England.

Not moving for emergency services is shocking. First thing you do in England when you hear the sirens is pull over.
461
Many Americans don't seem to realise that they are speaking European languages, mainly Spanish or English. Some don't even know they ARE European ๐๐
381
I've been asked by Americans what language we speak in England. When I tell them they speak OUR language, and not the other way around they get upset๐
362
Americans are well known for correcting English people on their own language. Even when you tell them you're actually English, they still argue with you.

Growing up in London, buses were just a part of normal everyday life. Same with the tube and trains. And later trams. I never owned a car in the 40 years I lived there.

Food containing toy = bad Food containing artificial crap = good
278
I'm old enough to remember the boy racers cars of choice in England back in the day. MK1 and MK2 Escorts ๐

When my English cousin moved to America to be with his American wife, ( girlfriend at the time) she said they would go to a restaurant on his first night there. He put on a shirt and tie, pair of trousers and nice shoes. He said he was confused why the rest of the group, all Americans, were in shorts and t shirts. They took him to burger king ๐

Maybe if Americans had proper diving lessons and tests to begin with, they wouldn't be such terrible drivers in the first place. OK it's strange at first driving on the other side of the road (although many British/Irish drivers manage it), but driving on the side you're used to (95% of Europe) shouldn't be a problem. There's an ongoing case of an American woman who killed a British person, by driving on the wrong side of the road. It's not all a joke.
237
The amount of sugar/salt in the American diet is evident. Every American youtuber seems to be drinking constantly out of huge containers.
236
It's not called petrol in another language, it's called petrol in English ๐ฌ
229
I remember reading a comment where an American said " English singers do well in America because they speak our language" ๐
217
I'm so thankful America gave us the English language. ๐๐๐๐
209
The UK roads are really safe, as my wife has stopped driving๐
161
I had an American customer in a shop in England, ask the price of something. When i said it was 10 pounds, she gave me a strange look and said "you mean dollars?"
157
Americans think everything English is American. Including apple pie and the language ๐
135
Sounds so sad that many American kids can't even walk to school by themselves, let alone not play outside. That's not a childhood ๐
135
On a movie forum , an American said he had just watched Watership Down. He said he didn't understand it as the voice actors were speaking "British"

The problem with lane discipline, among other things, in the US, is that there's no real driving lessons with qualified instructors. Sitting in a car with your mum for a while ๐ doesn't teach you anything. The actual driving test is way below par too.

When my cousin moved to florida from the UK, the first thing he mentioned was the food. In his words "Everything is full of shit" From the meat, bread and even fruit &veg. It's all pumped full if sugars, flavouring, colouring, preservatives and hormones. He showed me a pic of some burger King halloween burger, and the bun looked luminous lol
111
And the islands to the west, where they speak American.
97
Australia still uses many "English" words, rather than the American English equivalent.
91
We have some really great roads in England that have lasted centuries. We didn't build them though, the Romans did๐
90
Why do these English people all speak American? ๐
80
There's bits of cars and debris all over their roads. Unsurprisingly.
79
The US has a small population for it's size. But it is a new country compared to Europe. Give it a few thousand years.
76
I love the way Americans try and pass off Fahrenheit as if it's theirs. They do the same with the English language and Imperial units. Oh and Gold........
73
I'm always amazed when i see Americans using cutlery ๐
71
Americans are foreigners in America. Technically ๐
61
Americans speak at least one foreign language. Usually English.
61
All those "Irish" Americans are in for a shock ๐
58
An ambulance paying a toll? Good grief
56
The houses on one side of the Street in my English village, were built in the 1500's. All the old stuff is on the other side ๐
55
And buy guns ๐ฌ
55
The first time i went to a McDonald's in England was on my 7th birthday in the 70s. Dad asked where the plates and cutlery were, and hasn't been in one since๐
53
Well there's no driving lessons or proper driving test. That would explain it.
53
When I was a kid, busses were freedom for us. Used to go all over London on busses and the tube, during the school holidays. I'd imagine American kids are very reliant on family/friends for lifts everywhere?
51
English - A language. American English - A dialect.
50
I'm not surprised. Americans think English is their language ๐
48
Get out while you still can ๐๐
48
Wolters world has just been knocked off top spot, for the most inaccurate information in one video ๐๐
46
If you can't park, you shouldn't drive ๐
44
Maybe if Americans had lessons with a proper driving instructor, and a worthy test, they might be better drivers.
43
I would like to see "A day in an American school" just to see what they actually do, and what they're taught.
40
Yes you can always spot an American tourist ( if you hadn't heard them). Weighing 400 pounds but dressed for the gym ๐
40
Americans really are living in a bubble.
39
Every tape measure I've ever used in England, has both Metric and British imperial units.
38
I was told by an American, the you can walk around the UK in a day. I did tell him part of the UK isn't part of the mainland, which confused him. I said next time you're here, try walking around Britain in a day. He replied "Oh I've never been there"๐
