  5. Expensive yes, but for a lot of people they’re more convenient as they only ever charge at home and don’t need to waste time going out of the way to refuel. They’re becoming especially popular on large properties here that might be an hour to half a day drive from the nearest gas station.

  9. There’s various tax treaties that mean that’s generally only the case if you move to a tax haven. Eg, your foreign taxes offset US taxes so you’re not taxed twice.

  10. WW2 saw Germany team up with Russia to annex Eastern Europe. Then they betrayed their Soviet allies, who with the lives of 27,000,000 of their citizens and extensive US supplied equipment and rations managed to secure one front. If there’s a lesson there it’s don’t betray your allies, and starting wars eventually leads to defeat no matter who does it, at the cost of a lot of lives.

  14.  @Wifyish you’ve clearly not read it. Besides every other member of NATO has made more significant contributions so they’re hardly going to ignore article 5. A donation of weapons is not a strike, discussing how they might be used is not controversial, all countries have done so publicly. That they’re deliberately stopping Ukraine from using these weapons against Moscow is what’s keeping Russia from losing.

  19. There’s no negotiation, Russia’s demand for negotiation starts at surrender first then they’ll maybe listen. So the only way negotiation will even become possible is when Russia knows there is no other choice. That means not just more jets, but more of everything and the belief it will continue indefinitely. All the calls to negotiate just prolong the war.

They're still searching, but they're more looking for bodies at this point, and are being more careful to not risk those searching as now they're more likely to be at risk than it's worth.

Things do not cost double because of taxes, they cost it because of the inflation, because they're printing money because they can't fund the spending out of taxation. More taxes = less money circulating = lower costs. Lower taxes = more money circulating = higher costs, yes the lower taxes may offset the higher costs for some, but if the poorest aren't paying much in taxes they won't benefit from the cut, but will suffer all the rises from the inflation cutting taxes causes. Taxation is deflationary. Government spending is inflationary. There's barely a person in any country who knows how their own country works much less others.

A gas pipeline half paid for by the west that Russia refused to sell gas through anyway is just cleaning the sea floor.   31. Trump made a casino bankrupt. He can do the same for the US. They won’t invest in the US, just move to Vietnam or elsewhere. It takes a decade or more to rebuild these supply chains, meanwhile the US becomes an unattractive place to invest. Lots of the imports from Mexico and Canada were turned into more valuable products in the US then exported elsewhere. Now they can’t be assembled in the US anymore due to no supply for years, and will be much cheaper from other countries, even if the US does manage to get domestic supply. Some of which is impossible eg lithium and rare earths.

  38. Even Russia only 'claims' they gave a 15 minute warning. That length of warning would be extremely insufficient to prevent something like this, and would rely on a confirmation that it had been received and disseminated before relying on such a warning to be heeded. Using POWs as human shields for military cargo flights is unconscionable, warning or not.

  44. The ship was Singaporean flagged Korean built. There's no bridge in existence that could survive that kind of impact. This one was built in the 1970's. Several bridges collapsed and trains derailed under the last Government, the difference is the last government ignored it and reduced regulation to make future accidents more likely.

  45. You can tariff China no problem, or Mexico no problem. China and Mexico, and Canada, big problem. The US has been importing more from Mexico because of the China tariffs. Trump’s last tariffs caused this. There’s no good alternative other than Mexico or China, and US industry relies on non replaceable imports from one or both of those countries.

  49. NATO isn't to defend the US, it's to defend US interests, the US's biggest market for everything it sells is the EU. And by just saying you'll defend countries in NATO it means you never actually have to do it. By pretending that you won't help them, it increases the chance you'll find US men and women dying overseas to fight a war that could have easily been avoided by just being firm that you would honor your commitments.
