Well it will kill a lot of carbon emitting Humans so there is that :P
17
Death count seems low honestly, I would expect something like 500-2000 , but China is notorious for underreporting deaths in similar events.
17
to be fair birth rates are also way down in many Western countries
14
China gets thousands of earthquakes per year, most tiny but some not so much, and has done since records began, nothing unusual at all and nothing to do with rainfall lol
7
Ironically I agree, even EV's are not going to prevent further man accelerated climate change, not even close for a variety of reasons. Us all consuming a lot less will do a crap ton more, not buying an EV and taking public transport or riding a bike if possible. But lets get real I am completely dreaming, we are screwed and just waiting to see how screwed :P
7
When you consider just over 100,000 buildings/houses were damaged in my city Christchurch NZ in the 2010 & 2011 Earthquakes (metro area of only 500K people), 360K not hard to believe at all as that area is vastly more populated at 4 million. Keep in mind many cities are old ish even in developed countries, many building can date back often 50-100+ years when building codes were far weaker. Even San Francisco wiped out in the past would still be a complete mess today in a large or "very close" medium Earthquake due to a lot of older construction.

@froehmar Mate that debate was over 20 years ago, even most major oil companies now acknowledge it here in 2024 :P
5
US trade data (not Chinese) shows imports from China are still very strong. I am not convinced by these videos until we start seeing Chinese imports tangibly fall.
4
@PsychoGecko89 NOOOO you don't say :P
4
Correct, like any bomb its not "just" the size that matters, its how close you are to the epicenter, and depth also really matters. All this is something a lot of people don't realize when talking about Earthquakes.
4
I am not sure what we are seeing here, we don't know the day or time viewing these stores, is it 9.30am on a Monday morning or 1PM on a Saturday there is a huge difference. Recent US provided trade data shows imports from China are still around 2019 levels, so that's hardly a huge crash "yet". This could be good old fashion misleading propaganda.
4
@dopedrums Yea did not look real, pretty good home made CGI however. What would be stopping the people that supposedly took the shot going to have a look after the storm passed and identifying it, obviously nothing.
3
Australia can afford like 5 of them, lets not get carries away lol
3
No that's simply incorrect, dam water storage allows collection during excessive rain periods which can be released in low periods, those rivers would be bone dry today beyond any doubt if they were not dammed, this is not a China specific discussion.
3
I am not convinced China is in such terrible shape as the narrative seen here on YT recently. The reality is most international companies have NOT moved out of China, a lot talk but sadly not much action.
3
Ahhh well to be a little fair, does New Orleans ring any bells?. Incompetency does not recognize countries or political systems.
2
India is not exactly hugely Western friendly these days either, are we just creating China V2.
2
@PluckMe lol The US doesn't do "free policing" mate, like all countries it acts in self interest. You need to learn a little more about geopolitics , resource and regional control. Although a lot of the world sees the US as "the world bully", I would argue better the US than China or Russia.
2
Its a facking terrible idea, there was never any need to reclaim any of these islands, just environmentally destructive vanity projects.
2
If they are insured they will be obviously.
2
While we absolutely do see similar incidents in the West, there is no doubt they happen a lot more in China.
2
If you look at recent trade data between the US and China its still around all time highs, not seeing much impact in the US side data despite these video's
2
@bullpup1337 Trading economics using US data, go have a look yourself. Its not hard to find this data mate, turn off the tin foil hat and engage logic and facts.
2
Good thing they didn't build all those cities with massive amounts of concrete, oh wait.
2
@robotbartender why comment then?
2
@joseph2664 Prior to about 2012 China was looking like it was socially developing and slowly moving away from Communism, thats until Xi took office and the conversation has changed dramatically. People often forget the US was not a "true democracy" until the 1960's where African Americans finally got full rights in all states. Even today the US President can Pardon anyone he likes for Federal crimes which is horrifying, so there is still some work to do.
2
Even though there is many people in the cars, the CCP has confirmed 1 person died :P
2
OK account created in 2023 OP poster, nothing suspicious here :P
2
If you look at recent trade data between the US and China its still around all time highs, not seeing much impact in the US side data despite these video's
2
Although we would all like to believe these videos, when you look at "US " provided trade data in the last few months, US imports from China are still around 2019 pre-Covid level highs, so there is no massive drop, trade is down year on year but it's hardly a collapse.
2
Sadly that is largely propaganda, its very dangerous to underestimate our enemy, China is a significant threat.
1
ok the nuts jobs are out in force I see.
1
Complete nonsense nothing to do with rainfall, these areas have been prone to earthquakes since records began and even explained why in this very video. China gets "literally" thousands of earthquakes per year, most are tiny but nearly every year several large ones near a population center.
1
@PluckMe That's a very good reply rare to see in YouTube comment sections, agree with most of it. I would however add US power comes from the $US being effectively the world reserve currency, and its allies help protect that status through various means but also act out of self interest. It's all very much a symbiotic relationship, so when I see people talk about the US being "the world police" and its costing the US taxpayer, it's always a bit of a eye rolling half truth :P
1
@melindacadarette3447 lol it goes hand in hand, the US cannot import goods from China unless the goods are "domestic manufactured", that seems pretty obvious, did you stop and think before posting that?
1
That's ridiculous, only 1 person died thanks to the forward planning of the CCP !
1
@bikersoncall that's a half truth where context is everything
1
Some would say the West exploited Chinese cheap labor for 40 years, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
1
So the CCP is now forcing the kids to effectively eat McDonald's :P
1
@texasfuneral4787 Well they have insurance companies where they can pay for insurance just like you., it's not a "privilege" as such.
1
@texasfuneral4787 lol what?
1
The most recent US trade data shows imports from China are back to pre-covid levels in 2019 so not some kind of huge collapse. These videos are likely misleading no matter how much we want to believe its real.
1
Like to point out the last and likely future US President is literally in court atm trying to defend yet more fraud charges, so there is that :P
1
If you look at US data "imports from China", its back to 2019 pre-covid levels. Nothing in the data shows a huge crash like these click bait channels $$ keep showing, no matter how much we want to believe.
1
Well that side Windows really showed him who is boss :P
1
The reality is if you look at the latest "US trade data" imports from China, its still sitting around 2019 pre Corvid levels. These videos seem pretty misleading no matter what we want to believe.
1
Keep in mind the US only became a "real democracy" in the 1960's when blacks finally got the vote in all States, many Americans don't realize this. My point being all countries need time to socially develop and history shows trade is excellent at promoting peace. That said China specifically is showing more aggression since about 2010 and the West should move away.
1
@indiasuperclean6969 Stop yelling in CAPS, secondly India is still very much a poor country, however is developing rapidly which is good.
1
@LloydsofRochester Its hardly "just" China are you that brain washed?. China is now the worst, but the 100 years prior to 2010 ish it was the United States along with most other Western countries.
