  7. By the way, Swedish neutrality came as a consequence of a disastrous century of war that resulted in Sweden being relentlessly thumped by Peter the Great. Sweden routinely fought wars until it ran out of Finns and Balts. Then it ran out of Swedes as well, and had to stop. It was the most sensible thing Sweden did in centuries. In the 1810s, Sweden did get involved in the Napoleonic Wars, but were late to the battle every time. In both World wars Sweden was neutral in favour of their neighbour to the south. Swedish neutrality was not a gold standard in anything apart from duplicity.
