I would imagine that they are hoping that by doing this now they can sometime in the future start to lease aircraft again
29
@theshadowman1398 they will because it's true
23
IL-96 didn't sell the first time around not sure it will this time unless Russian airlines are compelled to buy it. The Sukhoi Superjet was jointly developed with the west, it's OK for regional flights but again required state intervention to ensure sales
21
Glad to hear they're going to keep it going but it is up against some tough competition
16
@tradjazzer short sighted view, it's always better to have a competative market rather than a monopoly
15
@kentd4762 I wouldn't hold your breath, that's not likely to happen soon
10
I think S7 is the only airline that operates the Max and the lack of spare parts made it pointless to keep them
8
Isn't the 757 narrow body and currently being used on long hall?
8
The longer version of the video obviously goes into more detail but Aeroflot are looking at losing 50% of their aircraft and use of the maintenance facility in Germany they would normally use to service their aircraft
8
I remember Transaero, it was a shame when they went under. If I correctly I think they had a code share with Easyjet.....
8
You don't seriously think it'll sold outside of Russia?
7
Unlikely because of service issues
7
If you want to be taken seriously learn the difference between weather and whether
6
@heybenjii5544 may be short term they can but they will struggle to service them with no parts or support from the west
6
You mean fuselage, wings and a tail? 😂
5
Not as much as trying to run an airline with no aircraft
5
@GrandMichigan you mean poor countries that are on sanctions lists fly old Russian aircraft....do know why? They literally have no choice
5
The PD-14 engines are still in the testing phase
5
To be honest I don't see China buying Russian built commercial aircraft, as far as I'm aware they didn't even buy the SSJ-100
5
Another win for Airbus......how much longer will airlines put up with failings from Boeing
4
Essentially an airline can sell you a ticket for a service they don't actually offer themselves and then carry customers from other airlines who don't actually operate on the routes they operate. Another advantage if your aircraft goes tech you have a chance of being transferred to a partner airline which is something you do get with likes of Ryanair or EasyJet
4
Honestly they're not that bad if we're looking at modern ones. Standards have improved a lot since the end of the USSR
4
Are you serious? How can you possibly try to conflate the two
4
Will ever see the likes of the A380 again? I'd like to fly on one some day, but it would probably mean booking an travel itinerary specifically for that and hoping they don't substitute the aircraft for something else
4
@4evertrue830 actually because of past problems with the Max it's probably one of the safest aircrafts out there.
3
It is significantly smaller and has a 3-2 seating configuration
3
@spongebubatz both true but my point was it is a narrow body so I actually think the A321XLR probably will be a success
3
@Mark-uh7cr I thought the whole point of gettting rid of them was money
3
Difficult to compare like for like given the far greater number of western built aircraft in use. The SSJ-100 has had a few incidents though
3
I know some people swear by them but you won't catch me flying with them.
3
why?
3
how can you dislike an aircraft you not flown on?
3
And what does that have to do with anything?
3
Take it up with Putin, you also might want to give a thought to the thousands of Ukrainians who have died
3
correct
3
@AQLV not sure how you came to that conclusion?
3
@woodduck2178 and if it found to be a manufacturing defect in the fuselage what do you suggest?
3
You need to work on your Russian pronunciation a little 😄
3
@spongebubatz right rather than discussing the pros and cons of single pilot commercial aircraft we're going ignore that and correct him on the name of the airline..... yeah that's a priority
3
If they don't work then why is Russia constantly asking them to be lifted?
3
Two completely different problems
2
only in Russia and China
2
Still won't alter the fact they're under sanctions
2
The major airlines still rely heavily on Western built aircraft at the moment much to the annoyance of some
2
Russia has literally stolen billions of dollars worth of aircraft and you think they're being hard done by? Also they've been banned by both Boeing and Airbus from receiving spare parts, that is bound to affect safety
2
@rogerhargreaves2272 The cabin crew made themselves pretty scarce throughout the flight, also I think he only got through the one bottle in the end.... would have been around 2011 or 2012 I can't quite remember if he made a start on the second
2
It goes without saying that much of the tech is going to be stolen, will it sell significantly in Russia? I don't know
2
No smoke without fire
2
Russophobia? Reporting the news isn't Russophobia
2
Nope not that I've seen, although updates on the progress of Russian and Chinese aircraft are occasionally posted
