Months from now it is widely reported that the event that started the collapse - the arrest of the first athlete - was probably the work of anti-Xi elements in the CCP.

For propaganda purposes, the CCP is desperate to win more gold medals than any other country at the upcoming Winter Olympics. As part of its (insane, flawed) zero COVID policy, the CCP is going to require that all Winter Olympic athletes allow CCP officials to jam probes of unknown sterility into their noses and throats when they arrive and probably multiple times each day. What guarantee do the elite world class athletes have that these CCP-controlled probes aren't covered in COVID or contaminated with proscribed drugs that will subsequently show up during routine testing for performance enhancing drugs and result in the disqualification of the foreign athlete? In so many other arenas, the CCP has been exposed to be cheating whenever and wherever they think they can get away with it in order to achieve their aims - why not in this way? (for example, they jailed in an Australian woman for three years for a minor offense, I don’t understand why Tony lives in China while he makes these reports. He seldom ever reports about comments made by people inside China, probably because they would be arrested if he did so. Most of what he does report could be reported from outside China, where he would be free and safe to actually provide some analysis and to perspective on it. Most of what he reports are the propaganda numbers of the CCP and the word salad policies that they throw out every few days in response to the newest problem. My advice to Tony would be to leave and do the reporting from New Zealand rather than from inside China. The fact that he does not is probably going to be questioned, especially if there is a Warren in Taiwan.

In my opinion, Tony's videos could better be done outside of China where he could provide more thorough analysis without fear of CCP reprisals. All of the sources that he quotes are publicly available and he does not, of course, quote any Chinese CCP or business insiders to avoid inevitable and severe CCP crackdowns. Though Tony is, of course, not a Lord Haw Haw (an Englishman who broadcast Nazi propaganda throughout WWII and who was arrested, tried, and hung by the British after the war ended), I am afraid that he will likely face very pointed questions and possibly penalties by both sides in the event of a dramatic increase in tensions such as a CCP attack on Taiwan or more devastating news coming out about high-level New Zealand or Australian politicians or business leaders receiving CCP bribes. On the CCP side, Tony could be arrested al any moment and held in prison for years as a bargaining chip as was done to an Australian journalist who was only recently released by the CCP after 3 years in prison. On the Western side, Tony may face charges that he helped the CCP to identify and make contact with the politicians or business leaders who are found guilty of receiving CCP bribes. Tony is a nice guy that I don't want to see any harm come to. But Tony has put himself in a very precarious position that could blow up in his face at any time for, as far as I can see, very little personal or professional benefit.
