It should be minimal, if not zero. I don't remember paying anything in Europe. It can depend on the passport(s) you have.
2
Like "Rock in Rio"... in Portugal
2
@svensulzmann4282 by "foreigners" you mean "non-Jews"?
2
@svensulzmann4282 how does one know if a property is for sale to "anyone"? Could I buy a holiday house through Christie's, for example? Even in the remote case that the house is located in Jerusalem?
2
And there is the dollar milkshake theory too... Hard to do any forecast
2
What do you mean, I don't owe the Austro-Hungarian empire anything?
2
@kippsguitar6539 it's not Andrew's fault, he already warned about it - people don't think for themselves, just try to emulate whatever they listen here. I saw the comments on the 1% tax video, many did not even understand what it was about.
2
No news about the end of IIP (Ireland)?
2
First!
2
Exactly. Sometimes I fancy opening a company like Andrew. It's unbelievable how people are ready to give money away for just a bit of know-how.
2
Everytime I see it, I can only think: where is Jessica Hyde?
2
@ResearcherofArabPagans he is correct... if he cannot leave his place
2
Yes, absolutely, I've been saying that for a time. It impacts hugely on the decisions we have to make as nomads.
2
@yellowwducky ok, then someone else must be leaving...
2
@yellowwducky maybe thousands spreaded around the former USSR region
2
@keffinsg are you sure? https://www.mfa.gov.sg/Overseas-Mission/Chennai/Consular-Services/National-Service-Obligation
2
@timetoventureout189 it really depends on your perception. A former husband from Monica Bellucci, French actor, used to live in Rio, among the normal population - a place I would maybe never visit in my life - children are shot dead every week, basically. So everything is relative. Your family, being English-speaking, would be treated as semigods; most probably your choices would narrow down to the main metro areas: São Paulo, Rio (why not) and others, where you might have better choices for schools and hospitals. Anyway, best thing is to visit and see by yourself.
2
Internet provider? That might be a business to start there...
2
@MegaBallPowerBall your point is absolutely valid. I just think that a "call option" (as Andrew uses to say) in the Middle East is not a bad idea and could be part of a diversified portfolio. It's not everybody's cup of tea, I agree.
2
Same for Portugal.
2
What if you invest solely on foreign real estate for rental income? Wouldn't you be free from income tax?
2
@torontovoice1 there is also inheritance tax, but only on very few cantons. Anyway, wealth tax is not income tax and you can choose some cantons that charge you close to 0.1% p.a. Believe me: unless you are a UHNWI loaded only with cash/equities and no real estate abroad, the wealth tax is your least problem. Your weekly BBQs will probably be more expensive than that.
2
You don't have to be wealthy in order to follow Andrew's principles. As long as you can put some money aside, enough for a short trip, is already a beginning. I did this in 2020 and started a new residence - if you can't afford this, at least open a small bank account, then develop from there.
2
... and since they won't learn, the only option is to avoid them
2
That won't be a joke in 100 years from now. I can imagine the first Mars passports being printed...
2
Scrolling down the videos I find this: "The Rise and Fall of California - What's Driving California's Mass Exodus?" by CNBC. Hmm. And some people come here with comments about FUD...
2
@johnmcternan4157 personality and character too. Sometimes I travelled having fun and total peace of mind, while sometimes I brought the problems with me and felt miserable. As Andrew uses to say, moving has to be a holistic plan because it won't solve your problems all of a sudden.
2
Also following. It will be fun to see how many HNWIs are reading YT comments and will bother to share their knowledge and experience.
2
12/12/12 😂😂😂
2
You have even more options. Rich people have to cut taxes; people like us will probably pay little to no tax almost everywhere. If you have passive income in USD, you are good to go anytime.
2
@tentimetex moving FROM Germany TO their version of a tax haven. I just pointed their rules in comparision to countries like Portugal or Spain.
2
@ihsw8 absolutely
1
What do you consider as a decent yield from Singapore REITs? 4%?
1
It will be a matter of personal taste.
1
@snterp there is CFC, ATAD 2... Such a mess. Maybe Ireland is easier as a non-dom
1
Andrew is mesmerized by Spain, he loves it 🤣🤣🤣 just browse through his videos on real estate, you will find the answer
1
@AdrianAJojko brilliant and complete answer. It's just a matter of paying the price and doing the homework.
1
@MajesticLawnGnome what country, may I ask?
1
@patricksweeney5308 I realized you have property in Egypt. Do you know anything regarding the New Capital? Are there properties for sale which are open for foreigners and would you consider it a good investment?
1
@garrettmgunderson absolutely correct. And if a UHNWI decides to put his/her entire wealth into a private bank and "do nothing"... well no, it's necessary to monitor its performance!
1
Hi Sheila, tell me more about the real estate market. It's a fascinating country!
1
@sheilareza2188 Thanks for the reply. It's tempting to invest there, so close to Georgia. Which locations do you consider the top at the Caspian Sea area? Just daydreaming LOL
1
@sheilareza2188 great, got it. Maybe you can become my friend one day LOL. But seriously, I will keep it in mind.
1
Genius!
1
@snterp yeah, what a disappointment
1
@snterp not at all, it's just fun to see how displeased Andrew gets about Spain 🤭 jokes aside, the Spanish citizenship would be a quick one to get, theoretically... but I got scared of the heavy taxes and bureaucracy.
1
@pranu1412 if your investment would generate a 6-digit tax amount, then yes, you could apply for something like an investor visa. The "budget" option is to get a job. A "simpler" way is to get an EU citizenship and move in as a self-employed/self-sufficient person, as long as you can show proof of income/savings.
1
Ireland will unite for sure and it has nothing to do with the UK or the Troubles. There is a big common enemy now.
1
Definitely Spain is NOT a place to live like a king
1
@T.L.Turner can't remember but probably yes
