  6. Basically - yes - probably. Some people might survive a while longer in bunkers or domes or something ling like that, but the rest of us are hosed and event those isolated survivors probably won't last for more than a few years or decades. That is unless someone comes up with some kind of miraculous technology that can significantly and quickly reverse the damage we've already done.

  7. I didn't need to hear Jon Stewart doing more of the "they're both too old" diatribe that the mainstream media feeds us every day. What I wanted to hear from him was that regardless of how old the two candidates running are, this will be a choice in November between four more years of Biden and his administration adding on to all the successes and progress they have already delivered and listing out some of their many accomplishments, or four years (or more) of the authoritarian crap fest that was the Trump one term national tragedy. Jon wasn't around to help defeat Trump in 2016 so he damned well needs to step up and make that happen this time and being an edgy, ageist contrarian isn't getting the job done.

And before you go lumping me in with user36112 I have been a supporter Israel and I think the country both has the right to defend itself and had to respond to the atrocities of October 7 . But I also think the shock-and-awe campaign by Netanyahu and other hard-liners was the wrong choice and has put Israel in much more danger than it faced before October 7.

  29. 9:41 - I suspect the thought that many, if not every, country in Europe aren't going to rush to build up their armed forces is a ship that's sailed and for good reason. The United States is proving that it can't be trusted to be an ally any more. So for good or bad, Europe is largely on it's own going forward.

  38. My apologies but I have to disagree as it depends on which history is being talked about. Just the recent history since the founding of the modern state of Israel (which has it's own set of narratives, prejudices and complications from all sides involved) or the thousands of years of history from before that? In my opinion I've noticed that people who say that a situation isn't complicated are usually minimizing the reality of a situation and often are trying to convince others of their own narrative and agenda. Very few things in life are uncomplicated when they effect entire nations or regions of people over generations of history regardless whether that history is a few decades, several centuries or millennia of time - especially in the Middle East and especially when it comes to anything having to do with Jewish people.

A Democrat identifying as a Zionist was a good way to appeal to Jewish voters, and more importantly Jewish Donors, once upon a time. But it's developed into a much more problematic thing to identify as today and now -- that thing he keeps saying ... I do not think it means what he thinks it means. Joe Biden has always been his own worst enemy.
