I was once in a situation where there was no one else there to help me and having a firearm averted a confrontation with someone intent on doing me harm. It doesn't matter what could have happened, there's just what did happen which was nothing. We were both very lucky.

It's always interesting to watch people doing bad things trying to justify it and put themselves across as the heroes of the story.
208
It's always a "dire" situation in Haiti.

It's crazy how many people think Israel is making everything up about Hamas while parroting the talking points from Hamas. Certainly there is some misinformation from Israeli sources too, but to think Hamas doesn't have a fortified tunnel network and doesn't use civilian infrastructure and civilians themselves to hide behind is nuts.

"Freedom of speech...just watch what you say"

History seems more and more like less of a thing to celebrate and more a series of tragedies we need to (but all too often fail to) learn from.
61
Let's also not forget the Russians are helping Assad in his war against the Syrian people opposing his rule. I saw a Frontline special where Syrian resistance fighters made it very clear they know that Russia is also their enemy in Syria.

There could be a class that spends a full semester educating about all the different genocides and mass killings that one group of people have committed against another. There could even be a series of courses with the first exploring ancient eras, another from between 1000 to 1900 AD, and finish the curriculum with examples from the past century and up to today.
49
The biggest cliche these days is Vladimir "Projecting" Putin
40
Maybe they shouldn't just lock up these drug lords. It's not like they are doing anyone any good by continuing to waste our air.
40
The horrible things we do to each other (1:38 - an attack on a maternity ward? I have no words that aren't vulgar). The longer I'm alive the more I realize that sooner or later it's all going to crashing down again. Some of us just can't help ourselves.
33
Every day I hear about what is happening in the world I'm reminded of why, in part, I didn't have children.
31
@PandaaYT 25 years - not 2.5. If they are model prisoners they can be released after 10 years to serve the remaining time on probation.
30
"It's always someone else's fault, isn't it? It's always someone else's fault." - I heard that smack halfway around the world!
26
This is how history rhymes.
24
ALL holy books and the intolerance of the people who practice in their name are the problem. Moral Secularism is the only way to a future where everyone can live together in peace and prosper equally.
23
@csuporj It's not about fuel per person but the fuel for centralized services like hospitals, water purification, and food production. Things Hamas doesn't seem to be interested in helping provide for the people living in Gaza.
22
It's a problem all over the place. Even just in the US there are restrictions throughout the southwest, along the Klamath in Oregon, in areas along the Rio Grande that runs through New Mexico and between Texas and Mexico. And Nebraska and Colorado are in court over other water use issues with the South Platte river. States and groups have always argued about and fought over water rights, but between the drought and the ever increasing consumption for industry and agriculture things are probably going to get worse before they get better. Should have had desalination plants being put in place a decade ago with sufficient infrastructure to pump to inland consumers as well.
22
Exactly. Many problems in the world come from people who practice a fundamentalist form of a religion.
21
The Taliban: we took back Afghanistan! SCOTUS: hold Bart's beer.
21
Love the crazy camera shots of Ines Pohl - c'est très avant-gardiste.
19
It's not uncommon to have the local yokel cops kick in the wrong door. When the FBI comes knocking you know they person is guilty AF!
17
The world is broken and the many suffer for the evils of the few. It was always like this, but with over 8 billion people now in the world the problems are that much worse.
17
@CraigScottFrost That's a bad example. A civilian wouldn't need to be armed in a courthouse the same way they might in other less secure places. There are law enforcement officers with guns and metal detectors and other measures to help keep people safe there. That's also true of other places like hospitals that now often have armed security staff and similar measures in place. Obviously civilians, even those licensed to conceal carry, aren't able to do so in every situation. But it's not an either/or option. Having access to a firearm when someone can do so legally can literally save their or someone else's life.

Doesn't seem like this is some kind of Night of the Long Knives situation or anything. Also not a "sweep" but a win by a thin margin.
16
this would be like if the third ranking chinese official (if there even is such a person in their government) went to Texas and met with people who want the state to secede. I don't think there would be a similar collective freakout from the US government and military.
14
8:18 - "Maybe they have some food that they had stocked knowing the war was approaching" so the people in Gaza did know Hamas was going to start the war with Israel? That was an interesting admission.
13
Well said. It's the extremists from all countries that are the problem for everyone else. It's a shame more people don't seem to understand what you do or at least don't express it as clearly and simply as that. Free Palestine from Hamas! And long live Israel without their own hard-liners and religious zealots!
12
I'm here early but the comments are already pretty toxic for this one. Probably going to get much worse too. Freaking people.
11
They're everywhere they're everywhere!
11
The UN? In Haiti? Don't see this going very well, but it's Haiti so what else is new?
10
Also depends on how old the "children" are. Anyone under 18 is considered a child, but Hamas is willing to use teenagers as suicide bombers. Some have probably been captured trying to kill Israelis.
10
China needs to let go of the One-China argument. The government had a One-Child policy that didn't go very well either.
9
So much hate in these comments instead of sympathy for neglected kids and being supportive of Omar and others trying to help solve the problems. Good on him and all those who try to help. Shame on those who don't.
8
She can do whatever she wants and more power to her, but anyone who is paying attention knows we don't get to have much of a private life if we choose to make ourself a public figure. Privacy comes with a price and that price is anonymity.
8
Rabbi Goldschmidt did himself no favors during this interview. When you get those hard and embarrassing questions like Mr Sebastian asked at the start you have to own those mistakes. Don't give a non-answer, dance around and deflect, do a bit of whataboutism and then get defensive. There's got to be a good yiddish word for that.
8
Same as it ever was.
8
Since the construction spokesperson talking at around 3:50 said they built them as quickly as they could I'm going to go with probably not.
8
@worldyglobal2533 They support Russia.
7
At lest he loves his dogs.
7
"The United States would do well to learn from China" is one of the funniest things I've read in the past few weeks - thanks for the laughs.
7
@tinaperez7393 You've got that right!
7
I'll write it again since it applies to your words. Moral Secularism is the only way to a future where everyone can live together in peace and prosper equally.
7
Palestinians should have that right, as should the people of Israel. The problem is the extremists from both countries who want the other people removed from the region.
6
@InTheLight54 And as long as it does the whole world will continue to be drenched in blood in His name.
6
The scale of the retaliation for October 7 is massive compared to the bombings by Russia in Ukraine, but the civilians in Gaza are also packed together much more tightly than in Ukraine. It's a silly comparison.
6
Brazil keeping it interesting.
6
Until the words "we don't have any kind of relationship with the people over there" are a curiosity of the past --- well, "War. War never changes."
6
That's not just Trump but most conservatives in politics and the media in the US. The Daily Show did a great bit using the FOX show hosts talking glowingly about the FBI when Hillary Clinton was the focus of their investigation but using the Mar-a-Lago raid footage. The flip-flopping is strong with these ones.
