Our biggest existential risk is allowing people to become billionaires, then allowing them to decide our future

Essentially they're saying that consciousness drives behavior. So, if zombies are, by definition, dead, then they aren't conscious, and so there'd be nothing driving the behavior. Didn't need to write a paper to state the obvious.

My bright idea for climate engineering: STOP DOING DUMB SH!T THAT CHANGES THE CLIMATE!!! That's it. That's my paper. Now, where's my grant?

I feel ya, dude. I'm a Black man, too, of similar age. While my experience/messaging growing up was different from yours, I did have difficulty interesting those around me in tech outside of anything dealing with music (e.g. MIDI, and such). I taught myself to program and to develop CG applications backinnaday. I have to say it always felt a bit.... lonely... doing trade shows or working with studios. So, it's heartening to see young Black folks interested in science & tech these days. Still, it'd be fantastic if more of our generation would take such an interest as you have. It's never too late! 😁👍🏾

Yep. I've had many a debate in YoutTube comments over this. When the parameters for interaction are well defined, it's easy to fool ourselves into believing these tools are actually intelligent. The designers are working specifically to spread that belief. So, yeah, it makes sense that many would believe that AGI is only a few years away.

Straight-up, if I do come up with a usage for quantum computers (and I might), there's no way in hell I'd just hand it over to super-rich dudes for (relative) pocket change.

Talk about causal relationship, look at the time on @arctic_haze's comment (1 day ago). Then look at the time of the video (1 hour ago). ...... W. T. F????

This is apples and oranges anyway. Generative AI doesn't actually create but regurgitate. That's why I call it Regenerative AI.

@galemartin9155 Of course, it does, bruh! Our best years are ahead, though. Your personal history made it possible for you to be in this moment right now, where you can truly appreciate what you're learning. I'm in the same boat with regards to software dev; there's always more to know and discover. It gives us something great to look forward to.

5:30 The Elon Musk shade is real 🤣!

No, the problem isn't access to high-quality data. It's a complete misunderstanding of the problems they're trying to solve; they seem to believe that collecting a lot of data allows for building a general artificial intelligence. So, they keep making promises about what will be possible solely based on that belief. But now they're running against the limits of collection... and still don't understand the problem.

5:29 well that got..... dark..... Sabine giveth, then taketh away 😅

You're absolutely fantastic as explaining this crazy stuff. SUBSCRIBED! (finally😅)

I'm no physicist, not by any stretch. HOWEVER.... I'm an experienced software developer. For more than the past 2 decades I've been deep in development on a graph system; it's the basis for a fully malleable OS for Creators. Interestingly enough, my system can model the "multiple observers" problem via contexts. That's a core feature that allows users to, say, see a photon in different energies based on their own context. It's been a real b!tch developing this platform, and I still have some road ahead. But I hope that through my work we come to see graphs as not some rigid data structure but as a kind of network of multiversal networks. This could go a long way toward illustrating Wolfram's theories in a more accessible way.

Sabine gonna crash when AI is used to build a quantum computer that is used to build AI is used to build a......
3
Hell, if only 7% of the people I've ever be associated with didn't like me, I'd consider it a good life.........

That German accent! Oh, baby! 😍😂

Define intelligence🤨

Check your brain at the door to engage in this discussion as if it were a viable thing

@alphagt62 Which means they're conscious... i.e., not zombies............

3:17 Hey, don't you dare talk smack about our Florida!!! Oh, wait....... Florida sucks. Carry on, Sabine😅

@dancingdog2790 Getting meta, your reply wasn't as deep as you believed it to be. However, you're capable of much deeper thought than the immediacy and transience of a YouTube comment. If you and I were to sit down and have an actual conversation, you'd begin to understand just how huge that AGI gap is.

Sometimes you really bug me, Sabine

6:02 #4 Fewer scientists want to risk being ridiculed for attempting to contest dogma (e.g. laws of conservation) #5 When a team announces a breakthrough, the onslaught of doubt begins, continues with the shame of being proven wrong, and ends with being forever branded as a "quack" or "charlatan". #6 Research costs money. Development costs more. There's not enough of it to fund truly disruptive concepts. #7 Few scientists, institutions, and investors have the patience and drive to spend decades+ R&D-ing disruptive tech.

Sabine. I am convinced that you are made of unadulterated, pure, pure evil. I mean, that thumbnail......... 😈

Reserving my set and a bucket of popcorn... waiting for The Great Embarrassment 😅

I have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said in the wonderful comments in support of you, Sabine. I just wanted to comment because I know that liking (which I did) and commenting (which I'm doing) helps your channel. And when I'm in a better position to do so, I will surely provide more direct support for your work. Please keep doing what you're doing; we're all rooting for you 💗

I love that you're also covering science news! In fact, I think it'd be weird if you didn't.
2
Yeah, well not allowing the n-word is considered left leaning. I, as a Black man, am totally okay with that.
2
@asdfqwerty14587 Exactly
2
While I agree with your assessment of Terrence Howard's ideas, I don't think it's right to dismiss the idea that actors can present new ideas in physics.

2:36 "So... the half life of that company was somewhat shorter than expected." 😵🔥

Wait--spoons aren't real?!? Then what the heck did I just eat my granola with??? 🤢

Once again: a collection of data cannot and will not automagically become sentient. Our innate fear of ourselves drives the notion that it can. Having said that, how could we possibly verify a self-identified sentient machine? The problem is illustrated in "Loophole of the Gods" with a discussion between a pastor and a sentient android (full disclosure: that's my novel): “Let me ask you: do you believe you’ll go to heaven?” Her brow curls and her eyes widen and flash. “Why wouldn’t I?! I’m a good person!” “I know you are, I know—” “I always try to be, anyway.” Her gaze drifts as sadness grows on her face, brightness in her wide-open eyes waning. “There’s a place for me… right, Pastor? In heaven?” “Do you think you have a soul?” Her eyes flare and she whips to him. “Look, I mean you no disrespect, Pastor Willis, but if you think I don’t have a soul, then show me yours. ”

"But let's not be cynical...." 🤣🤣🤣!

Hunk-a-junks should be a thing! And if it's not, it now is, 'cause I'mma call 'em that from now on.

5:02 We already know the answer: NO IT IS NEVER OKAY TO PUT PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA! That is a law of pizza that shall never be broken. Anyone who's claimed to have achieved this is a quack.
2
Yeah, sounds great..... until all you see is a blue screen

Longtermism is psychotic

This is not just for quantum; it's the universal BS detector 💩

Exactly!

Well, I was about to submit my paper called An All Newer Newyest Theory of Everything but.......
2
I come for the complaints, stay for the science
2
If you take care of the now, care of the future is built-in. This ain't rocket science. But then again, I'm one of those "intellectually inferior Blacks".....
2
@operationlegend9746 Wake me when regenerative AI actually adds something new to it's output based on its own lived experience
2
I love your humor, Sabine 😂
2
4:26 Damn.... @SpecOpsAnarchist4206 has more subs than I do 😞 Does that mean I can get into image credentials spoofing?
2
These AI efforts all revolve around the idea of eliminating the need to pay people to do work. And it's all driven by folks who believe that their own pay is assured. What society truly needs is AI to eliminate the jobs of those few who would use AI to eliminate the jobs of the masses.....
2
🤔I have just one quibble on your assessment of the quantum drive and efforts like it that get funded. Yes, there's not enough theory behind some of these efforts, but it's actually a good thing that're embarked upon. After all, we don't know what we know until we explore (i.e. they could've seen something that you do not).
2
@robertmorrison107 Look, not everyone who disagrees with your Elon worship is a "leftist." Elon has publicly proven that he's bumbled his way into success without actually being truly competent in the fields in which he claims expertise. Twitter is the most public example, but it's not the only one. What he's very good at is getting the public excited about tech and the future in general... and in being a willful tool for the transfer of wealth.
