Hong Kong always served as a bridge between China and the West. Looks like China doesn't want that bridge any more. The West is decoupling from China but I think China is decoupling from the world. North Korea 2.0.

"He must make 5 million yuan per year". "How much do you make?" "5,000 yuan per year". Gosh, that sounds so...American.

It's interesting that when women have their standards "it's their nature" and when men have them it's "misogyny". @maskpandachief

A problem is that luring single young men to immigrate is easy. Offer them good paying jobs and they'll come. They'll see it as an adventure. Luring single young women is much harder. Women are much more dependent on their social network of family and friends. They are loathe to abandon all of that and plunge into the unknown, especially to basically become a brood mare. Not an inviting prospect.

I'd say if someone wanted to experience the Chinese culture they would be better off going to Taiwan. Same culture and you probably won't get arrested.
22
I guarantee your room is bugged with audio and video recording.

Germany seems to love doing business with autocratic governments. First Russia, now China.

Also buy 1 oz. coins/bars or smaller. If you need to sell it not many people can buy a 1000 gram bar, but a lot of people can buy a 1 oz. coin or bar.

@Cryosxify When isn't Communism authoritarian? It has everything to do with Communism.
18
After seeing that foot wash mother there's no way I'd marry her daughter. That daughter more than likely will turn into that mother as she ages. If you are interested in a girl always take a good hard look at her mother, both physically and behaviorly, because that's what you will be married to, sooner or later.

If they can't make a decent screwdriver what makes anyone want to buy a Chinese EV or High Speed train?
16
What's next? Praising Fiat quality? Perhaps the Yugo will make a comeback and displace the Chinese cars with it's amazing longevity.

One thing that could be done in the Chinese real estate market that would reinstill consumer confidence is do away with the idea of having to make payments on a property that isn't even built yet. Change the system to be like the American system: you sign the sales contract with a cash deposit and the down payment is due when the house is finished and the payments begin the first month after that. That way the builders would make sure the house got finished because they want to get paid. The Chinese system as it is now is just a Ponzi scheme that invites corruption.

But can you trust the testers? What if they are crooks too?
14
"Chinese are finding out that their domestic brands are just as good as foreign brands". Really? Then they must keep the good stuff at home and export the crap to other countries because everything I buy from China is crap. I'll take Japanese any day.
13
Maybe he should have left but taken the foot water with him, bottled it, and sold it to perverts on the Internet.
11
Wow, what a great summation! Mao had The Great Leap Forward. I think Xi is engineering The Great Leap Backward.
11
Keep in mind that those lost submariners would have gleefully launched a nuclear missile at your hometown if told to do so. @5anjuro

What's appalling is when they own an investment property they let it sit vacant. If they would rent it out they could at least make the mortgage on it.

I've always thought that if you have to use your own vehicle for the job you will lose. Gas is only part of the costs, there's also tires, insurance (which frequently is priced at how many miles a year you drive), repairs, oil changes, more miles on your car which makes it worth less, etc.

The Chinese Internet is so censored that Chinese people have no idea what's going on down the street from their own house. I saw a video where some Chinese woman just discovered that there had been some flooding in China. It was all over the Internet here but she had no idea.
9
Don't forget the skirmishes with India. One battle consisted of fighting with sticks and stones. How appropriate. I'm sure that experience will serve them well in the future when they go to war over Taiwan.
9
50 cents seems to be the going rate.

A lot of those deals were for US agricultural exports probably because of all the drought and flooding in China this year wrecking their harvest. It would be more informative to see a list of the deals by category and compare that to previous years. A total dollar amount is not very useful.
9
They invented gunpowder in the 9th century. What have they invented since? Kind of a long dry spell, huh? @cameramaker

Stop chasing Bad Boys. Good men are boring and dependable but they don't abuse you. I mean really, Bad...Boys. It's right in the name. @RayneBubble.
8
The troops are meant to be used against the Chinese people, not in a foreign war. "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun".---Mao @Zodinthara-jo5yi
7
@kirerunte1046 Just like COVID: Beta test.
7
"Liberate" Taiwan? Liberate them from what, freedom? Sort of like what Russia's trying to do in Ukraine? That's like a policeman putting handcuffs on you saying that he was not arresting you, he was "liberating" you.
7
It looked like a "Mission Impossible" outtake.
7
I have been told all my life how smart the Chinese are. I begin to wonder...
7
I've noticed that so many times. A car submerged almost to the roof in water but the windshield wipers are still working. I would think the water would short out the battery and/or electrical system before then. Perhaps we have found the one prodeuct that China can make that actually works: car windshield wipers!
7
Headline: "China has fewer people". Earth : "Oh thank God!" BTW: good narrator!
7
Keep in mind when they give statistics "year on year" that means that these are the numbers this year as compared to this time last year. Remember, last year at this time China was still on COVID lockdown which I'm sure made that year dismal, perhaps the worst in decades. So if they say it's down 58.9% year on year it's actually much worse than that.
6
At least in the US we got to spend it. The people in China never even got a chance to sniff it.
6
The average Chinese would act the same way if they were given power. It's their culture.
6
It seems that the facts and reality despise China too.
6
Well gosh, it is named "China Observer" so don't be surprised when they, you know, observe China.
6
The best strategy is for Xi to forget about Taiwan and concentrate on China's problems. He reminds me of a man on a sinking ship who is obsessed with getting the water spots off the galley glasses.
5
The way I understand it, in Chinese "yuan" is pronounced "yen".
5
"Sir, sir, we have an attack inbound!!!" "What is it sailor? Missiles? Warplanes?" "No, no, it can't be...it's, it's TOFU sir!" "Damn those wiley Chinese!!!"
5
Maybe, but he's not an economist either and look at the great job he's doing...oh wait.
5
20 more sub captains aiming nukes at your country. Good riddance. @ptonpc
5
I always assumed Xi either wore a wig or colored his hair. Perhaps the fashion is catching on.
5
What do you mean "now"? Maybe Soylent Green wasn't science fiction.
5
@RCXDerp Chinese is not a race. It's a nationality.
5
That's why the CCP built such a huge army: it isn't for fighting outside enemies, it's for fighting the Chinese population. @LamborghiniDiabloSVPursuit
5
Or they will say it's your fault because if everyone would've bought an EV everything would be fine. Never argue with a Liberal, a woman, or a Volt-Head. @LGTheOneFreeMan
5
Mud season. Sort of like Ukraine has.
