Why not?

America.

@orlandoacontreras You're welcome.

I agree with this. The micro aggressions, particularly in regards to racial blood purity and what constitutes a certain ethnicity/nationality, is disgusting. The sad part is that while the majority of Japanese people buy into this ideology, they often do not do it maliciously. But it's so baked into the culture that it becomes painful nonetheless.

Because the paler the better in Japan, I suppose.

@alexsdb9712 It is the onus of the person writing to communicate their point to the reader.
1
Totally.
1
@JamesNg-ug1pm Nope.
1
@alexsdb9712 I'd be happy to hear you elaborate on your point. Thank you for the civil response as well.

Yup.

@dmraven Black skin ages the least quickly, due to melanin. Asians can age well, but there are plenty who don't -- if you think otherwise, it's due to a media bias.

The atmosphere of social exclusion and insidious pressure to conform in every respect can be really damaging. Don't knock how difficult it is here for darker-skinned people. As an American who is not white, I can say that it takes a huge toll on your mind and body -- which is why after a decade, I came back to the States.

It's very common, unfortunately! Japan is a discreet country, but also a very discriminatory and superficial one. I still had a good time living there overall, but people are very uneducated in certain respects.

@FrankBrennosTheGreatest Those are the reasons, not colonialism and destroying other countries?
1
@lambda5949 Yes, I know that. Thanks for also stating the obvious.

@うずら 違和感を感じるのは仕方がなくても、そういう違和感を乗り越えようとしないのは悪いことです。特に理想的など「_人」のイメージにマッチしない場合は反応がよくないので、もう少し頑張ってほしいです。

It's just exposure lol

@Samsung-1.9Cu.Ft.Microwave Uhhh, yes they do? Literally everyone thinks of black or white people when they think of Americans.
1
@lordbored7006 Ding ding, this is the one answer that really gets it.
1
@Samsung-1.9Cu.Ft.Microwave You must not be interacting with a lot of people.
1
@davidstone-haigh4880 Yes, this. The media paints different countries with broadly stereotyped images, and there's rarely any in-depth coverage.

@jontwest Why do you believe that society doesn't have a responsibility to the people who live in it? I agree that people are often tribal, and it is a very painful experience to not superficially fit in to the places you are born and raised in. But there are positive things too: an increased sense of awareness, consideration, and empathy. There is beauty in the diversity of phenotypes and experiences innate to human beings, and focusing on the painful parts leads to losing sight of the good things, in my opinion. The same goes for many other qualities and traits that were considered abnormal in the past -- as we evolve, our understanding of them is changing.
