@pegasus7607 Thats very true. Germany and Japan set their best engineers to building cars. Britain underpaid their engineers so there has been a severe shortage ever since and still engineers are paid less than accountants and estate agents.

This would end up exactly like dental care. I recently tried finding a local NHS dentist and there are none taking new patients within 30 miles of here. Private health care would force me to leave the country. With a type 1 diabetic in the family, our health care would be completely unaffordable under a US style system

Makes you wonder what sort of morals they teach in these very expensive public schools that they all went to.

Probably for the same reason that the tories removed fraud from official crime figures

I work in Greased-Hogg's constituency. You won't find a thriving high street here.

@markperrin8098 £11bn was paid by the UK government to oil companies in subsidies last year. Even without the green tax of £65 per mWh on fossil fuel energy, its still £15 - £20 per mWh more expensive than green energy. Also, green energy doesn't rocket in price every time a country in the most unstable part of the world has yet another war.

@watchalot919 They all lie but none as frequently as Boris and none have as frequently refused to correct the record when caught as Boris has done. Blair only really told one lie, it was just a very, very big one that took Britain in to a war.

I suspect water treatment standards in the US are considerably lower than here.

Sadly I'll also have to vote tactically and put a tick next to lib dem as a vote against tories in order to get Labour.

@Andrew-rc3vh the best selling car niw in the UK is an EV so the public are already buying them. Manufacturers are winding down ICE production already, most will have stopped within 5 years. Its too expensive for them to run engine and batter production lines and fund R&D for both.

As an engineer myself, I can absolutely confirm that no engineer would ever work in imperial units. Even the American engineers I work with use metric and then just tell their CAD techs to convert to imperial. Calculations take so much longer in imperial and are more complicated due to nothing being properly related to anything else. For example, if I have 10 metres of water depth, then I instantly know the pressure at the bottom is 1 bar. There is not one single logical unit like that in imperial

@ Yorkie gilly I worked in the automotive industry for years. We were paid less and had less holiday than our German counterparts and I hadn't seen a strike since the mid 90's and that one lasted a day and got our tea break reinstated

My dog would be better than Sunak and all he wants to do is sniff arses, sleep and eat cheese. Basically like Boris Johnson but without the lies
