  7. Only a tiny percentage of EU countries laws are forced by the EU. Just look at the differences is laws across the EU and that's pretty obvious. Speed limits are one example. Taxes are another. Non EU customs are another. Criminal laws are another. The differences in laws across the EU are so easy to find

  8. I did an apprenticeship back in the late 90's. Back then, we had 5 years with day release to a technical college plus a training agent to assess on the job qualifications. It was heavily subsidised by the government. Now all the subsidies are gone, the technical colleges are mostly gone and the training agents are gone. All of it scrapped by the tories to save money. What they forgot is that those of us who did an apprenticeship went on to well paid jobs so we repaid all that money and more on to through our taxes and very few of us ever claimed any benefits. Training and education is an investment, not a cost

  10. After the 2008 crash, countries which implimented austerity recovered slower than those which didn't. It's been proven that investing in infrastructure is a positive way to help an economy recover. It creates well paid, lower skilled jobs and gets billions moving around the economy within the construction industry which then expands out to manufacturing and the whole economy

  12. It's not our governments choice to introduce vaccine passports. Other countries are requiring them so the British government have to introduce something or no British people can visit those countries. don't want a vaccine passport? Don't visit those countries that require one and stop whining about it like a spoilt teenager.

  13. @Dale Benton No they didn't work for it, Sunak, Patel and Hancock all inherited their wealth. I have great respect for people who get rich through hard work but the majority of rich people had it handed to them.

  15. Thats terrible pay for a job that requires a degree qualification. The graduates I work with are paid close to £33k and will rise to £50k over a period of ten years and that's in engineering (outside London), a profession which has traditionally been lower paid than others

  16. I don't know whether it's poorly designed BUT well designed submarines like all other vehicles would have gone through the relevant approvals to prove they're well designed. When I used to design relatively small parts for ship, every single item we made had to be backed up with calculations to justify the design and then tested to prove manufacturing and then registered with the relevant agencies and that was just bits of ships, not entire vessels.

  21. No. Get them processed and get them in the jobs we don't have the people for. We have over a million more job vacancies than unemployed people and that shortage is killing British industry and stopping our economy growing

  23. The bosses are trying their best to turn people against working people wanting to maintain decent conditions and pay but it's not working. Incidentally, the boss of Royal Mail did an interview recently and came across an a really unpleasant specimen. RM claim they can't give a pay rise because they didn't make a profit which is true and the reason they didn't make a profit is that they bought a Canadian company for £200m and spent another £50m on electric vans and another £100m on buildings which are not being used. They clearly deliberately wiped out their profits

Inflation was pushed up by the huge increase in the cost of energy making everything more expensive so of course raising interest rates while doing nothing about the cause of the problem hasn't worked. Apply an actual windfal tax to energy companies (as most other countries have done without problems) and use that money to fund a tax cut for low and middle earners and inflation will come down

  28.  dirpitz6157  They are definitely qualified. A junior doctor has qualifications above a masters degree. An apprentice in any profession will have absolutely no job specific education, a junior doctor has at least five years of post graduate level education and around £100k of student debt, an apprentice has no student debt. Junior doctors are required to study for a minimum of 20 hours a week to move up to the next level or lose their job. No other profession does that. In my profession, engineering a graduate with a masters will be starting on £35k and up to £60 within 5-7 years. Even chartership will take bugger all effort and add another £5k - £10k to that salary

  35.  @RaRa-eu9mw  Junior doctors are not on substantial wages. Less than £40k for a job which requires £120 of student debt to train for is terrible. It's considerably lower than in many other countries which is why so many are leaving for places like Australia

  46.  @thomaselwood12  That didn't happen the last time the top rate of income tax was raised so why would it happen this time? I'm in the 40% tax bracket, if it gets raised by 5%, I'll be marginally less well off but I'm not going to miss it so I don't care. I'd rather see this country dragged out of it's current black hole than have that 5% lower tax on some of my income.

  47. Low wages are a major issue. We have a shortage of engineers in the UK because wages are much lower here than in many other countries and we relied on European migrant engineers who have now left. No one wants to join the military to give there life for barely above minimum wage. I am an Engineer, I know I would make significantly more money in the US, Canada, Australia, NZ, Germany, Korea or Japan but I quite like it here and I'm not really motivated by money
