@simonmorgan225 So when they leave because the pay isn't good enough and we have even less of them then is the problem better or worse? The reason for the shortages of staff is the pay isn't good enough to retain staff or to attract new recruits. In industry, when a business has a problem with recruitment they offer more money to make the job more attractive and then people apply.
6
No they aren't. However, the tax payer is paying the companies £30 million a day while they refuse to negotiate
6
I don't like Harris but she's a lot sharper than Trump. The debate will need a good moderator who will stop Trump just rambling about how great he is
6
@MCDONALD6969 Taxes under Labour are always lower for the working classes under Labour. Under the tories, they are lower for the wealthy but higher for the working classes. Guess which is the focus of billionaire media tycoons
6
@rthonlimbu8134 There are none who are currently working as doctors or nurses employed by the NHS
6
I'm fairly certain Boris is behind the "leak" of the video. Hancock was coming under too much scrutiny for dodgy dealings and Boris wants him out of the way before anyone probes too deep
6
Since 2010 money to the NHS has dropped 20% when adjusted for inflation. Money to the private health industry has substantially increased. That is why politicians say they put more money in to health care and not that they put more in to the NHS
6
Useless people?
6
Of course it did. People were suddenly allowed to go in to crowded places so instead of just a few people being alerted for each case, it's potentially hundreds. The app doesn't work. If I sit on the opposite side of a restaurant to someone who is tested positive for covid then I still get alerted because I was in the same restaurant at the same time even though I might have been 20 metres away or even on another floor. The app is deeply flawed and if the government want people to take any notice of it, they need to get it re-programmed to take in to account actual proximity rather than just in the same building.
6
While a president can declassify documents, he has to do it through a formal process to register them as declassified. The accusation is that Trump didn't do that, he just took them and assumed that he could just say they are declassified.
6
Almost worse is the fact that Starmer will just let them get away with it rather than standing up against it and fighting it. I was hoping Starmer would be a good leader and bring the Labour party back but he's spineless. I didn't like Corbyn's policies but at least he stood up for what he believed and fought against the tories.
6
Yes we are. Now Labour can start work on fixing things
6
The problem is that all the other G7 countries had all of those things to deal with. They all had very similar length lockdowns. They're all contributing to Ukraine at least as much as the UK. They all (except US) have similar unemployment and they all (except US) paid similar or better furlough. On top of that, all of them have done far more about energy costs, the UK has the highest energy costs in the world. Even Germany, who were reliant on Rusiian gas are paying less than us. French people pay half what we pay for energy. There is no excuse for the mess the UK is in now. We didn't go though anything that the rest of the G7 didn't.
6
For a start there was £10bn paid in subsidies to oil companies in the last year while they were absolutely fleecing the British people and not paying any taxes. There was also £8bn to tory donors for faulty ppe Then there was another £35bn for an app which didn't work There 's also an estimated £50bn - £80bn in furlough fraud which the tories have said they will not pursue
6
The catholic church have to take some of the blame for that. People will have sex, everyone has natural urges so let them use contraception. The catholic church telling people they'll go to hell for using condoms has really contributed to the problem.
6
Exactly. Thatcher didn't stop coal being burnt, all she did was made sure it was transported thousands of miles on oil burning ships before it was burnt
6
He has literally done nothing to control inflation. He says its the responsibility of the BOE to bring inflation down and then when it happens, he takes credit for it
6
Junior doctors aren't still in training. Junior refers to all doctors below consultant or GP level
6
I guess someone in his position would be too much of a terrorist target on a train and doesn't have time to spend 8 hours plus in a car so the plane seems to be the only option really. Just because he has to use something doesn't mean he can't say that thing should be improved.
6
@seabreeze4559 The only sources I can find are saying that Germany is only accepting vaccinated tourists. Why would they ban vaccinated tourists? I can see that they may ban all tourists from some or all countries but there's no logic in specifically banning just vaccinated tourists
6
@summerisonthursday5239 I see. I understood the comment as they were just banning vaccinated travellers. I guess if they're banning everyone to prevent the delta variant taking hold that makes sense. Britain should have done the same
6
Because he's white
6
He's not committing because it will be May, he just doesn't want to commit. It's obvious it'll be May because tax rises come in during April and we won't feel them until the end of May, after a potential election. There's also new import checks coming in during November which will cause price rises (Sunak said previously they were delayed because they would be inflationary). Then there's the usual NHS crisis in autumn/winter. Most of all though, Sunak says it'll be the second half of the year so that effectively confirms it'll be the first half
6
@taffyterrier There are two sides to any dispute. If one side refuses to negotiate, as the government have then they have to take the blame for the dispute not ending.
6
@thehealeruk No, that's not true. As I said above, it's all available for anyone to see. Models do change as observations are made and there's opportunity for refinement. Unlike religion, science is never 100% settled and is open to constant scrutiny and questioning
6
@michaelmumby2328 He had ample oppertunity to sack her before following the investigation which found her guilty of bullying but he decided to ignore it
6
It would also result in international trade sanctions which would cripple the UK
6
@TheMagicJIZZ What inventions? The cyclone his vacuum cleaners used was copied from an industrial extraction system and was invented over 100 years ago
6
@anonanon7497 Thats how capitalism works. Businesses pay the absolute minimum for labour and sell their products for the absolute maximum they can get away with
6
I went round to visit my elderly neighbour, the man is a comedy genius so it's always a pleasure. Keep them stocked up with cold stuff, make sure they have plenty of water in easy reach and lend them fans if they don't have them.
6
I would boycott Harley Davidson, Fender & Chevrolet but Chevrolet don't sell over here, I prefer Ibanez guitars and Harley haven't ever made a bike I'd actually want
6
Rubbish. They cannot be worse
6
I've spent the last 20 years working on huge construction projects for various water companies. They have definitely invested, there is a huge industry built around water/sewerage treatment construction projects. Just take a look at the Thames Tideway scheme for one example. The problem is huge developments built with no consideration for whether the infractructure can handle it. There are villages around here which have more than tripled the numbers of homes over the last 20 years
6
It's not pay rises at all. It's energy prices and corporate greed driving inflation. Unless the average UK pay rise is above inflation (and it hasn't been) then it won't drive inflation
6
That's nothing compared to what the US military contractors and arms manufactures got out of it. Blairs money comes from other dodgy deals rather than Afghanistan
6
@OngoGablogian185 Seems about right for a team of employees in a medium size pharmacy
6
It's not because of the affair, it's because of the hush money and how it was hidden from the tax man and the fact he previously lied about it under oath.
6
There's gender fluids everywhere. Terrible mess
6
Graduate pay for most professions is £30k+ so why are nurses worth less? Low pay is the reason for the shortage of new recruits. Who would want to spend £50k on student debt to earn considerable less than other equivalent professions?
6
It was one wasn't it? How many billions of our money did the tories give to their mates? Why have they refused to investigate a potential £55bn in furlough fraud? Why hasn't baroness Mone been tried for her £250m fraud from the tax payer? Sure there is some corruption within Labour but it pales in to insignificance compared to the billions in corruption in the tory party
6
Actually that would cover it for 12 years
6
Well that would be a problem if there were any railway stations left around here
6
Cryptospiridium is a tricky one. Extremely difficult to kill and measures are only put in place in areas where there's a likely risk. Would it have been any different if nationalised? I'm all for nationalisation of essential services but I'm not convinced it would make a difference to this
6
She probably does hope he's ok. Without Trump, she might have to go up against someone sane
6
The Scottish government managed to agree a settlement and the English nurses have said they would reluctantly agree to the same deal
6
@Phylicity When has that ever happened before? When Labour raised the top rate, did everyone earning that rate leave the country? No, they didn't. Meanwhile, people who we actually need like doctors, nurses and engineers are leaving because of low pay here in the UK. It seems fine to let them go but we can't lose the bankers can we?
6
If we don't buy it, they won't make it
6
The Taliban was originally trained and armed by the United States during the previous Afghan war and it came back to bit them. You'd think they'd have learned.
6
How? I earn double the national average and even I'm not getting hit with any tax rises
6
And what will a damp sponge do to emulsion paint on the walls? It'll damage it. Best to let the landlord do it. If it's so easy then they surely won't mind
