Every time I look up the career of a scientists who is saying climate change is not caused by humans, at some point I find they've worked in the oil industry or they're a member of the Republican party (who take funds from the oil giants). Guess who stands to lose the most as we fight against climate change? The oil giants. Potentially for us low life members of public, it could save us money. Everything we do has a consequence, without exception so why do people believe we can pump billions of tonnes of CO2 in to the atmosphere each year without consequence? Add to that the fact that we're deforesting and therefore reducing the planets ability to process that CO2. Each tree can only process CO2 at a certain rate, it won't process more just because it's there.

  12. It used to be the case that the working class were home owners. If more houses were built and wages kept up with inflation then the working classes could afford to buy a house again. When I bought my first house, I was working as a welder and managed it very easily. A two bedroom house cost me the equivalent of three and a bit years wages and a deposit of £10,000. Thats how it should be. Labour are asking for better wages and more affordable houses. That is what the working classes need.

  18. People are taking this the wrong way. There's more than one way to cut aviation emissions and the best one is to increase the efficiency of the engines. Britain has some of the best engineers in the world along with one of the greatest jet engine manufacturers, Rolls Royce. Invest in R&D, get the best engineers on the case, give them the resources they need and the problem will be solved. This can be applied to ALL problems like this. As an engineer myself, I'm loving the challenges we're getting now. Most of what I do I refining mechanisms that have existed for decades, searching for wasted energy and looking for energy recovery oppertunities. In most cases it results in products which are quieter, smoother running and more reliable due to reduced heat, vibration and friction.

  26. In countries where guns are tightly regulated, the relatively low numbers of legal guns means much lower numbers of illegal guns because they are much harder to source. It also makes prosecutions for illegal weapons much easier and penalties for illegal possession of a firearm are often so strict that it's not worth the risk for the majority of criminals. The US may be too far gone to fix this though. There are now so many guns that it would be impossible to get them under control.

  28.  @heliotropezzz333  They also have much higher hospitalisation and death rates among those who catch it. The vaccines seem to be working here (despite what the anit vaxxers say) and although cases are rising, hospitalisations and death rates are not at anywhere near the same rate

That's a really low salary for a job that requires 5 years at uni with £70k of student debt and then they have to work around 50 hours a week plus another 20 hours a week studying to become a higher level doctor (development is compulsory, not optional) as well as paying for those studies and exams. In the US, a junior doctor earns $150,000. I spent 3 years at uni, work 40 hours a week at most, haven't studied in years, have far less responsibility and earn £10k more. If the salary is good, then why aren't there people queuing up to fill the vacancies for doctors and nurses? I sure as s**t wouldn't do it even if I thought I could pass the training

Traditionally in this country, pay in all professions has kept up with inflation, and it did in the public sector until 2010. No one takes a job expecting to get progressively worse off. Following your logic, people should expect to eventually earn virtually nothing as their salary stays the same for ever. My father used to earn £27 per week as a steel worker, should he expect to still be earning the same now?

  38. No, managers in businesses like this get crap pay as well. A friend of mine is a shift manager in the workshop at a local bus depot an makes around £25k which is crap these days. A manager job title doesn't automatically mean good pay

  39. If I so much as accept a bottle of wine at christmas from a client or supplier I will be fired. That's a very standard business anti corruption rule. Also, If I accept any paid work from any supplier, client or consultant within 3 months of leaving my job I will be in breach of contract. These are standard rules yet politicians (who are supposed to be the best of us) are exempt from these standards

  44. British students pay £9,000 per year. Non British students pay £22,000 - £38,000 per year and they cannot get student finance, it has to be paid in advance. Their immediate family can come on a visa which does not entitle them to full residency and they cannot claim any benefits and only have very limited working rights and have to pay £500 per year to entitle them to use the NHS.

The right wing press made a big thing of him owning the company but the reality is that the company was two men in a shed. He didn't go to private school or Cambridge/Oxford but he had the brains to get to the top in his career

  46. I won't be voting FOR labour. I will be voting AGAINST the tories. If that means I have to put a tick next to labour to get rid of the tories then that's what I'll do. The priority for me is to get the tories out. I'd rather vote green but they haven.t got a hope in this constituency

  48. @@godblessfarage Since brexit, very few EU students are coming here. The change to the rules has made British universities considerably more expensive for them compared to ones in the EU. The Indian and Chinese students I was at uni with stayed long enough to lose graduate status in their profession and then went back to their home country for similar wages and much lower cost of living. Thats why we currently have severe shortages of skills. Less British people are going to uni because it's so expensive and wages in the UK don't justify it. The last graduate I worked with had £60k of student debt to earn £40k pa for at least the next decade. It's not worth it. I know welders and electricians earning a lot more than that
