About American intermixing of whites and blacks (a very complicated topic) there is the white and black elite and then then there is the rest of us of various ethnicities. There is a truce between different ethnics and there is the tribal connection within each ethnicity. Even Irish vs British American tribalism. I definitely see tribalism emanate from my siblings.

Michael a smarter way to deal with family (definitely not my family) who wants to give you money is to find someone (easy enough) who needs the money and neglect to tell the giver of the money. That way, at least three people end up happy.

You might want to do a podcast featuring Coffeezilla and Michael Malice. I'd be hilarious.
1
Balaji's proof of authenticity using crypto chains can handle the 'I am not a robot' issue.

I suspect that in today's America, the first born is the practice child and the second child benefits as the first child learns. I'm very familiar with first child / second child interaction.

Santa Clause is a mispronunciation of bishop Saint Nicholas and diverts focus from the celebration of Christ's birth. Halloween is another example: the phrase was "All hallow's Eve" or the night before All Saints day. Witches and all the other garbage is really inappropriate for the night before All Saints day. It's really a pagan celebration. And, yes, I went for candy when I was a child.

The journalists of today are no different than the journalists of the 30s and 40s: almost all run in the same pack, however, a tiny few have integrity and what they do is not about themselves. That is who Michael is talking about.

Two guests on your podcasts are better than one guest. I suspect that you've long since have come to that conclusion even if it's more work for you. Amusing to watch guests unintentionally interrupt. My siblings definitely don't that drawback. This podcast is definitely fun to watch.

Except for EA deep in the past, I only purchase Steam games - not impressed with Steam competitor's offerings. Not impressed by 99% of the Steam games I review. especially the PvP games. Chose a different open game recently over you guest's games because the prices were excessive. I don't like PvP games because there is always some harassing moron blowing up my stuff - encourages me to look for a 2-by-4;to correct the moron's behavior.

When the focus is primarily on technical capacity to do something there should be at least an equal focus on how that technology impacts human capacities otherwise the technology is effectively useless.
1
Loki is a good name for Win-Win because it encourages keeping a close eye on what Loki is doing. Loki is mischief.

Experience is cumulative and after a short time period most experiences are forgettable. Asking 30 days after about a podcast is asking most people to say 'Duh'. Probably the common response to an experience is to digest it with other experiences within the subconscious. Generally, my response to a podcast (other than comments) is: 'Next!'. David Butler

Time is not fundamental. It is emergent from space just like matter and energy. Inflation then 'Big Bang' dictates that.

Interesting your of history

The best way to get a criminal to interview is to offer a worse consequence if they don't: pointing to an example of when you actually did the worse consequence with someone else. No one sane thinks they are a bad person. Bad people are a significant percent of the total population.

Alex, your goal setting strategy seems appropriate for you. Continue to go with your heart: it's a good heart.
1
Describing the universe becoming more and more intelligent reminds me of 12 Monkey speculation that Time required humans in order to think. Never bought into that idea.
1
It seems today that to be a successful theoretical physicist you also have to embrace materialism over everything else which puts one into an empty void. Not a good place to be. David Butler
1
Ah, I was wrong. Python 3.11 is in machine learning. Why no comment about Software 2.0?
1
I probably comment too much but I like how your 'thinking' has been developing over time: stay on that path.
1
Santa Claus, unlike Christ, is magic: before the age of 7 everything is magic. Christ, on the other hand, is the super adult that adults are in awe of in the same way that children of that age are in awe of adults.

Not to discourage you from thinking about how things could go wrong for human beings but it's best to explore how things can go badly or go well. I expect things, over all, to go two steps forward with every step backward. I wish Science Fiction writing would spend more time examining the more positive thoughts about the future and pull back on the negative possibilities for the future. Despite the feeling to the contrary: Skynet is not going to happen no matter how many psychopaths we have among us. Of course, Skynet will come from your choices: I'll just be dust by then.

What if Sagittarius A has a universe inside: would tapping energy from it affect the inhabitants of that universe?
1
Assuming a true quantum computer (not a classical computers simulation) existed: how would Transformer run on such a quantum computer? Just a thought for your quest.
1
Use of media to share your thoughts requires a patience similar to the patience needed to pursuing a scientific career. Media feedback is more immediate, and if you focus on the content feedback, useful in the pursuit of your scientific career. Likes/Dislikes are for the media channel and are otherwise irreverent. Media comments are best proceeded by a bot to narrow what you read.

Alex, your guest is not talking about reform because he doesn't have a clue of how to initiate reform: he is expecting revolution. Same posture in the other video that I saw him in. He focus is on the American elites but not on the vast majority of Americans not working for large businesses. He doesn't see the vast number of tiny businesses in this country. His vision is different.
1
I agree with Liv that lab bio is the greatest danger to humanity. 12 monkey TV series comes to mind where a viral pandemic enabled a crazy cult to do something even worse.
1
Although I studied Chess a bit when I was about your age, I was never attracted to it: thiat is pre-Bobby Fisher. Sorry, I find Settlement Survival far more intimidating since they challenges are far more devious and the development choices are uncountable. However, still interested in this podcast.
1
The TV series 'Timeless' mimics the last 5 mins of this podcast. The evolution of memes by progeny. In the series case: the re-spanning of how to build a time machine.
1
Strongmen rise to power because of the support they can generate. What are the long term strategies that the global population can use to prevent strongmen from gaining power? It's the general population that have the ultimate power not the leaders or even the elite supporting a given leader.
1
The 'I am not a robot' tech also relies on with-in-image recognition. I dislike that part of the tech because it's a difficult on us older folks. Something an apprentice programmer is clueless.
1
Your guest is a treasure: a gift to those who viewed this podcast.
1
Be careful about anthropomorphic machines. The fictional Borg were corporal machines which like wolves gobbled up their prey.
1
Infinity is a red flag: don't venture here there are dragons. That is, you are approaching a boundary of human fragility. Physicists swimming with infinities approach a quick descent.
1
I agree the Fermi paradox is a far too negative view of the universe. The planetary zoo is much more likely scenario. Frankly, I suspect that interstellar commerce is far more hazardous than living on a single planet.
1
I like the thought that physicists might have to redefine entropy: never liked or believed the current definition. Seemed like too much a leap of faith. Hear that Brian Greene?
1
Alex, you should definitely have a conversation (not a podcast) with Turok: interesting ideas about science in general.
1
Sorry, Coffeezilla, I never saw you on Glee.
1
Sorry, I was never impressed by Kerbal even through it is sorta an engineering game. Factorio, Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere are far more challenging than Kerbal. I've struggled for years with Factorio and Dyson Sphere to get to the end of the game. The only way for me to beat Dyson Sphere was to create a detailed game guide with an accompanying game notes file. The closer to the end you get in Dyson Sphere the more complicated the game play becomes. Of course, being 76 is also a drawback.

About the US government: the leaders of our country, for at least the past century have been as competent as most of the Roman emperors. In the past fifty years there has been a decline in leader competency. We are below the competency of those emperor's who followed Charlemagne.
1
Atheists really don't have a clue of the emptiness they choose by ignoring transcendence.

About reading books discussion near the end of the podcast: smart phones have plenty of content from mainly text to videos and podcasts. However, a lot of time is required that people around your age just don't have the time to spare. It's very clear from text exchanges with my nieces and nephews, who are around your age. 30 mins a day means one of your podcasts takes a week to complete. Just thought you'd like to know. David Butler

When you are young (24) chasing the almighty dollar makes sense especially if you can do it well. When you are a bit older (30+) and have already attained success then how your impact effects many others becomes more important.
1
Rather than than refer to something as infinite, it's better choice to say it's (effectively) uncountable since infinity is not a number and uncountable is referring to an unknown number.
1
I expect to be dust in 2030 so I really don't care about skynet showing up in 2045. However, I'm encouraged that many of today's hierarchies, by necessity, will have disappeared and there is a potential that a much larger, again by necessity, percent of the global population will be making the important decisions. That eventuality is well worth preparing for today. David Butler
1
If space is structureless in the way you describe structureless then how do you describe emergence from space? That is: if time, matter and energy were emergent from space then how do you describe emergence of each? David Butler

Any advice to young people should explain how to find mentors to help them on their life path. Only some them will listen due to naivite.
1
I've never liked the super wealthy because it means resources controlled by the few so I've always thought of Forbes as a version of Hustler magazine.
1
Your paperclip maximizing species can easily be trumped by competitors and become extinct long before it gets off planet.

Although intelligence is Richard H's speciality, his speciality is too narrow to see the forest from the trees. That is, intelligence is not the only capacity a human being has: it's just the intellect. It's the same blinder that materialistic physicists have: assumptions morph into hypothesis then into pseudo laws. It's easy to overlook the inconvenient. Richard overlooks physical and especially spiritual.
