@n00btotale I say it's socialism.

In Finland, "blow the whistle" means literally charging off into the fog and smoke of no man's land presumably to die. Fortunately, that didn’t happen during my time. We dragged a recoilless gun in the woods, near the Russian border. Nowadays obsolete, but almost identical to 10.5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40.
4
I do not disagree with many things, but a German car was generally better than a Soviet car. As for the number of Ukrainian famine victims, I believe in the Russian Duma, which has declared 7 million casualties. Nor was it an accident.
4
I know that a Western Christian sounds strange when talking about Lenin, but 15% of the population didn't consider themselves Orthodox. If you want a positive picture of the Tsardom, "Za spichkami" is a romantic comedy written by Algot Untola in 1910 (Mosfilm 1980).
4
@QronoZ713 You’re probably wearing pink, because you think colors don't exist.
4
@nikolajsivanovs3547 Because I wouldn't want to die in the siege of Leningrad. When we flip a coin, we assume that there is no major difference between the two sides. Even SS troops, for example, had drivers who didn't shoot with their rifles at all.
4
@nikolajsivanovs3547 "ALL members of the ss commit crimes." When a completely biased Allied court declared them innocent, they are free men. Laws are not retrospectively enacted in this neck of the woods, as in some Soviet slums. Now go home and get your f**king shinebox!
4
@MarshallJukov Actually, I'll retract what I said. Finland lost the Winter War, but won the Continuation War in september 1944. The Red Army suffered heavy losses in Germany while Finns were celebrating and drinking cognac at home.
4
@MarshallJukov Pocket change. It's a fair compensation for the white slave labor and starvation deaths. And it was paid off before Stalin died.
4
I disagree..French and Dutch troops are worse. The Regular Italian Army is undervalued. Militia is a different matter.
4
@natekaufman1982 Mexico is a rare case in which Mexican civies carried out all war crimes in Mexico : )
4
@Raskolnikov70 Modern warfare is more like police work. Although RK 62 also has "high-speed" mode, we were taught in Finland to use only the semi-automatic mode. However, there is a Finnish volunteer company in Iraq where I can imagine them using fully automatic firing mode while cleaning apartments. Btw. Degtjarjova LMG was named "Emma" in Finland, because the magazine resembles an audio record. https://youtu.be/NW7nHjc6Y7A
4
@Legolas3111 I would say the Nazi party ideology was Big tent, Centrism, Social conservatism, National conservatism, German nationalism and Statism, which is socialism. By no means a far-right movement, rather center-left wing.
4
To be honest, I find it pretty irrelevant which one wins. My grandpa sabotaged the Kirov railway and was not even promoted. However, in civilian life he had better luck than the "winners" had.
4
@big.atom37 You don’t understand because you’re defending your ancap tribe with a keyboard instead of serving in the military.
3
Paraphrasing Richard S. You'll never be English, be yourself.
3
Old-world South Africa feels a bit like Serbia or Ireland because the British don’t like them.
3
@aidanb.315 However, they praise Yugoslavia. Mere separatism or nationalism is not fascism.
3
"Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century." - Vladimir Putin https://youtu.be/MwSYz82k1KA
3
In my opinion, the argument that everyone was racist is perfectly valid. No biggie.
3
Plus, they're late in in September 1944. First an organized retreat, then a ceasefire, and finally a casual march to the 1940 border. Excluding the Petsamo area in the north. https://youtu.be/-AUdP-QVEKA
3
They're both very similar. 1. Autocracy, Absolute monarchy 2. City State, Special Administrative Region In practice, people always form some kind of government, but in theory number two is a night-watchman state.
3
A Finnish veteran told he had captured a Kyrgyz child soldier, which was unusual. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the prisoner was a malnourished teenager and therefore small compared to the Nordic people. (Kyrgyz prisoner in the picture is not related to the case.) https://www.sotasampo.fi/fi/photographs/page/sakuva_75523 The Russians are a colorful bunch, says the caption about a wounded Kyrgyz. https://www.sotasampo.fi/fi/photographs/page/sakuva_83640
3
@WandererRTF In short, team Stalin got rekt.
3
They also escorted Soviet bombers over Finland. To my understanding the Anglo-Finnish War ended in December 1941.
3
@richardadams8036 Or miscalculated as civilians. Take a look at French riots with fire bombs flying. 3: 1 seems more credible. Women also served in the Red Army and typically in developing countries the median age is around 28 years. There are not so many civilians to begin with.
3
@sthomas7002 Dumdum bullets used by the Soviet Union were banned at the Hague convention.
3
@aleksazunjic9672 That was 1918. Mensheviks were inside the Finnish goverment during WW2. Bolsheviks, such as Yrjö Leino and Vladimir Kirpichnikov would not have survived, if they had been shot immediately.
3
Also true that regular army is a form of collectivism. Major battles between regulars and irregulars heavily favor the regulars. Although the Soviet Union and Greater Germany were two different political entities, Hitler went as left-wing as possible without alienating his base. Technically, Hitler "resigned" himself and named Großadmiral Karl Dönitz as president of the Reich and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. In some countries, there is not even a party organization, but a mere family dynasty such as Kim I - III.
3
Wasn't he a war veteran? It might explain his point of view.
3
@aniksamiurrahman6365 Infantry Regiment 11 landed unopposed at the port of Tornio. Feels like a Garden party compared to Normandy, that's why you've never heard of it. Cold climate though.
3
@aniksamiurrahman6365 I bet you don’t
3
@sylvainprigent6234 That was a real war. Finland's d-day (Battle of Tornio) was a fire brigade and police operation. Maybe "little Christmas" is a better analogy, a traditional party held to anticipate Christmas. https://youtu.be/_E9NU3mclCU
3
But quoting Hitler is not a bad taste?
3
You are a mercenary. They were conscripts. Suppose that peace is concluded in 1940. The Nazis would have censored a few books and a couple of movies. Maybe a stamp would have been issued in honour of Adolf Hitler in Liverpool. France would have been only partially occupied. That said, I think 1945 is the good old days for the Western Europe and neutral countries.
3
@dermotrooney9584 Despite that setback, by late 1944, four countries switched from the Axis Powers to the Allies. In the case of Mannerheim, he switched from the Russian Empire (1914-17) to German Empire (1918), and later from Finland (1939-40) to the Axis Powers (1941-44), and lastly to the Allies (1944-45). In my opinion, the United States could have skipped the whole western front, but that's alternative history.
3
@maximbravo6835 "What was stopping them". According to you, they were escorted out from Pelkosenniemi. lol the Soviets had a brass band there. Nowhere near the border. I agree Finland lost Vyborg in 1940 and Petsamo in 1944. The Reds lost Hanko 1941, Ivalo 1945 and Porkkala 1956. Mauno Pekkala and Yrjö Leino lost the election in 1948.
3
@DaveSCameron Seeing the Baltic countries as an attacker is misleading.
3
Halder was like..finally! These people ruined my plan.
3
Uncle Joe S If Marshal Mannerheim were to rise from his grave and be elected Governor General of Australia, you would not notice any difference.
3
Uncle Joe Exactly. You would not notice any difference if Mannerheim were appointed by the Queen (Thor or whatever) as Prime Minister and Governor-General of Australia. The overall tax rate would remain unchanged.
3
Pedro Kantor Epic movie. Here in Eastern Finland, life has changed more during the last 20 years than in the period between 1323 to 1970. A recent study corroborates the previously reported genetic division into eastern and western Finland and indicates that this division runs along the border established by the Treaty of Nöteborg in 1323. It was possible to identify most research subjects (born before the 1970s) as eastern or western Finns with higher than 80% probability.
3
@ericfischer4458 Young people don't remember that cohabitation was illegal. That’s why, in the movies, they often ended up in a barn.
3
CipiRipi00 I would say the state owns 40% to 45%. Owning something does not mean interfering. Back in the day, nobles got involved because no literate managers were available.
3
Even more bizarre, why the USSR didn't declare war on Germany. They knew in advance that Germany would attack Russia.
3
@fringedweller5425 Hitler resigns (commits suicide / is assassinated) 1943. Dönitz takes office. Problem solved.
3
@shellshockedgerman3947 Ireland and Switzerland started the war. They had huge losses in WW2....except it didn’t happen. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Russia#Soviet_Union_(1922–1991)
3
@nicholasconder4703 No problem. Finnish mainly has postpositions, where the order of the elements is reversed. That's why every Indo-European language (excluding vodka labels) is difficult for me. Welcome to opposite land: https://youtu.be/tT41pOtcmoY
3
In Finland we have a classified list of Stasi agents. They are all state leaders and members of the Social Democratic Party. Kind of public secret. Imagine if you were a former Gestapo agent. Well, we're just gonna classify everything, so it doesn’t affect our popularity.
3
Decolonization was a rather complex and slow process. As I recall, the UK didn't take part in the Vietnam War, but Australia did. Not to mention the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis. However, they are culturally closer than some other countries.
