  1.  @aryangod2003  I do agree this seems to be mostly basic knowledge that even a child would know. However I have come to the understanding of acquired knowledge supersedes the old common sense approach. An excellent example is slippery when wet signs, or even 1st year apprentice on their first day. I feel it's better to acquire knowledge and not just believe you know it already. This in turn avoids accidents. For instance, I knew planes go higher to save costs (along with safety of concerning lower heights plus noise). I understood the air was 'lighter' or thinner, so obviously less resistance. But I didn't have all the tech associated with it, or the exact reason why it's 30,000 and not 25,000. Clearly the atmosphere and even the Earth's circumference is valid. I basically have never acquired this knowledge (no need to learn). And my common sense towards it may even be mistaken!

  2. Both the treadmill and castor roller examples were merely representing how geared things can go faster. The EXPERIMENT however, was about the wind Vs speed of a designed object. The point is that the exampled non wind things, weren't there to provide authenticity to the wind machine, but ONLY to show that things can move faster through gearing, such as hands on a mechanical watch can do. They were merely interesting on their own.

Actually it can be clearly shown we are living in the best times ever from all previous times through education; technology; all the sciences; health; and enjoyment of life. Science is not about making things all lovely and fun. It merely our best method in determining reality. Even if a doctor confirms you have a terminal disease! This mental deficiency you speak of is not due to the scientific method. Actually its in spite of it. People tend to become comfortable in their ways or false beliefs. Science is not making them that way. Rather its helping to support their needs from now and into the future.

  6. 1. Science is more about falsifying things, rather than proving something is true. 2. Many people still don't trust the best known method of science. Preferring to stay wilfully ignorant. 3. The vid was not simple. Simplicity itself is not a requirement of science. Sometimes you need to gain knowledge and understanding. Many people prefer a simple method of I believe in something else, which is always shown to be pathetic. Pretty sure I covered what the bad reasons are.

  7.  @ThaBeatConductor  Yes this is the issue with the word best . Best for humans perspective? Best in spectrum of light and sound (which part of the spectrum?) Best in physical ability? Such as eyes moving sideways or even backwards. Agree the word best is subjective. When humans have 20/20 vision, that's already counted as the best the human eye can do. Plus its quite common with children and younger adults to have this best eyesight. To get better (subjectively) then clearly the physics of the eye itself would need to change. It reminds me when theists (commonly) refer to humans (or their man) evolving better that other animals. But evolution is not about bettering at all, if anything every single lifeform known is perfectly equally evolved at any single point in time to any other known lifeform. Thus evolution is not bettering at all. Best eyesight/hearing/smelling etc? Basically that's most of the population with special emphasis on the youth.

  8. He didn't solve that by the 3 loops (or how many there were, pretty sure 3). Turing was solved because he made muddled up words coherent. IF it were only using this technique, then he would have found many possibilities of incoherent nonsense. He had more clues, as he actually had the paragraph of writing that he was trying to decipher. So when his looping patterns yielded no coherent words, he quickly moved on. The prisoners can't do that here.

It has been analogized as: Taking a thimble to the ocean and scooping up some water and saying: Nope, no whales in here. Except the thimble size is more like an atom, and the ocean is more like the Sun size. Have a look at some of those 'size of the universe' vids. They help. I like the one that begins from a person on Earth and expands out, but any will do. Plus many cosmologists actually state we may be in a multi-verse! Of infinite other universes. Its big REAL big.

  13. ​ @inconn262  You are asking where the testing was done. NOT at the difficult start, NOT at the slowing down in the end. But at the point ONLY where the vehicle gains speed ;) An excellent example is if a bike rider begins in 10th gear (really hard to get momentum here) and eventually gains enough speed that 10th gear has little energy of the rider to go fast. NOW replace the rider energy with (transparent) wind energy. The confusion is: 1. Wind is see through. So its difficult to wrap your mind around SEEING this experiment. 2. The TEST is not done at the beginning OR end ;) But rather somewhere nearish the middle to just past that area.

  14.  @inconn262  Oh and: 3. Once the bike rider stops pedalling (and going faster) eventually the bike will stop (and fall over LOL) ONCE the wind (energy) stops blowing, eventually the vehicle will stop. And then it would need to start in that really hard, massive energy, 10th gear again ;)

But it may be analogized as science testing some water at some point and showing here's the Hydrogen and here's the Oxygen right at this point; when in reality its an ENTIRE stream of water ever rushing by. That's one idea I have. And the other is that its not space/time at all, its time/light. Because its only the point of which we can measure that becomes true and therefore gives in a volume of space, but in reality its merely observed rushing by. These philosophical questioning ideas, we are make leaps and bounds towards (although presently unknown therefore not confirmed). But I think the next revolution in reality will be focusing more on light and time and on the entire stream rushing by.

  16.  @endofunk2174  Your question was about science Vs politics. The reason why politics exist as decision makers even over science, is due to what the people want. An excellent example is in Robocop where the scientific robot saved the man from drowning and not the girl, because the man had a higher survival chance than the girl. Scientifically the robot was right. But in reality or humanitarian (or ideally politically motivated humanitarian actions for the people) it can be argued that we are better off saving the girl. This conflict has been dealt with many times. Science itself should not be the end deciding factor in determining the best actions of the people. Nor does science intend to do this. Rather, science is the best method to be on the path towards truth and should be used as one (powerful) factor in determining societies needs.

  21.  @silvercat3243  Agreed. Your concern is what I find by debating with theists. They feel science is at the end of knowing everything! I try to explain we are not at the end, possibly less than a percent into it in reality. Its just perceived that we are at the end ;)

We worked out that emotions (you say feelings) are an unreliable method to be on the path towards truth. Similarly a drug may make you feel all happy and have a wonderful life in self deception. But MOST people prefer truth ;)

And I didn't keep pushing that point to overly prove that, I merely expected you'd agree ;) As for logic, its not the best term actually (would take a 100 posts to discuss) better to say: Reason and evidence. There's also cultural logic! Very irritating area. Where its logical to do eskimo kisses (as an example) than to go sit by the water for a picnic (in a certain culture or location). Logic is just not the preferred word really. Maths is merely a method (or tool) to help us understand reality.

  29. I found a fault with them. If using at night! Then bugs will constantly attract to that light, which seems to be EXACTLY on or around your eyes. Thus if using these navy (or army) night vision glasses in the countryside or really anywhere outside, then you'll get a trillion insects attacking your eyes!!!! That can't be good. Why can't we merely devise cat eyes or bat eyes? They can go all over the place without hitting a tree or a wall or anything, plus no light around their eyes. We clearly have a long way to go.

  31. Negative. If -1 squared, is represented as a 90 degree change to real numbers, then how could you physically observe that? Obviously you can't. We can't whatch quantum atoms move 90 degrees from where they are at that time. Answer only the present state must exist in reality, and therefore nothing is moving. Merely a new page of present is placed on top. Thus everything must be able to change all the time with each page). I'm unsure why quantum is the only odd changing part. It's possible that everything (including history) is actually changing but we can't observe it. Can't wait to wake up rich tomorrow.

I have had some confusion when speaking with theists on such things does a monster (their claimed God) exist. I have constructed a reasonable line of conversation, where a parent will instruct a child: No monsters exist, go back to bed. And then added that once the child is able to reason effectively (possibly 10 years later with a more developed frontal cortex of the brain, we can add: ...not that we know of ;) Whilst you spelt you're incorrectly, your line will help me to add onto this reply. I generally find adult theists to not be ready of strong reasoning or science (on this particular subject of claimed Gods, evil wicked witches, supernaturally evil people who were supposedly born as evil babies etc etc). Thus I begin on their level of understanding, with words such as I wrote above. Ready for nursery and instruction may be the words I require, when other, so called positive only atheists, question my somewhat patronizing and being told method. Thanks.

  37. Science is the best known method of explaining everything we know to be true. A long time ago we worked out that reason and evidence is our guide. To question previous beliefs. Its through skeptism (a natural process of humans above 6, unless hindered by outside influences) that we can be on the path towards truth. Science is not a declaration of absolute truth, but rather the best known method to be on that path. Science is all about trying to prove things wrong, rather than proving something is right. Once we go through the scientific method removing any counter argument, then the hypothesis eventually becomes a scientific theory based on facts. As a science teacher you have the ability and requirement to help guide your students away from conspiracy theories; outdated beliefs; especially those based on emotions or personal testimony (the lowest, poorest method of determining if something is true or not). YOUR method is to get the 'kids' to begin questioning again, using the best known method of evidence and reason. Unless they prefer a non existent unreasonable belief!

Clearly even other professors of physics also questioned its validity. I see now that the test was not from start to end but only a certain point in the entire motion. A worthy vid.

  47. So 100 Billion X 100 Billion X 6 = 6,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets. (minimum, but estimates actually say thousands of trillions of galaxies, so add on 9 more zeroes or 12 more) And we have only really checked 5,000 of them. This is like going to our ocean, with a thimble and scooping up some water, and saying: Nope, no whales in here! Although the known universe is much much much bigger than that comparison. More like an atom bucket to a Sun of ocean.

  50. VERY simplified. Its merely gearing. How say a bike can pedal really slowly but go very fast. Now replace the person energy on the geared bike, with wind energy (and no person energy). The wind energy can go really slowly (but through gearing) makes the boat go very fast ;)
