  1. Poultry can be contaminated with Campylobacter. Pork cannot. That’s a big difference.

  2. Fowl can be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni, which is a dangerous pathogen. Most people who are infected with it will just have GI distress for a few days, but a few people will develop Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a paralyzing disease which can cause permanent disability and even death in some cases. Even for those who recover completely from it, there can be huge medical bills treating it and a long period of rehabilitation. Raw chicken is something which should always be handled carefully, according to FSIS recommendations, to avoid spreading any pathogens to people.
