And he only won big then because his main rival, Stephen Harper of the Conservatives, had been prime minister for 9½ years. Fatigue had set in and the public wanted someone else as PM. Subsequent to that, Trudeau only managed a minority in the 2019 election (157 seats) and another minority in the 2021 election (159 seats). Trudeau will have been prime minister for 7 years in Oct. 2022, which is approaching the limit at which the Canadian public gets tired of the same guy having been PM for so long (which is 8-9 years).
