I remember reading a consumer magazine back in the days which had this car on it when it just came out with the headline that roughly translated to "a glimp of what options your car will have in 10 years"... Some of these options my car still doesn't have today.

What has been seen can't be unseen.

First thought when I saw the interior; some elements already remind me of a custom Hummer limo from 2006. I can only imagine how dated this car must look and feel in 5-10 years.

I think calling the GTS models a budget Turbo doesn't really do right to GTS models. The GTS models are more raw sports oriented. Have stiffer suspension and should give you more of an idea you are driving a raw race car where the Turbo models are indeed faster, but still cocoon the driver in relative luxury to give a comfortable ride quality.

Lol, I've been to S-Korea in January and this indeed sums up what you see there quite well! Although to me as a European it looked quite american since most people do drive sedans, while in Europe hatchbacks and station wagons are more popular. Also, most of the cars you see in Korea are not sold at the European market. Especially Hyundai's Genesis line which seems to be a separate luxury brand in Korea. But yeah, as a car enthousiast, Korea is a...different experience.

They should have sold it in Germany! Obviously with a name like SS it would have done well here!

I recently learned that in the Netherlands you couldn't even buy your child a performance car if you wanted to. Insurance companies simply refuse to insure a car for a teenage driver if it has more than 136HP. Basically, a BMW 3-series with the standard engine is the most high performance car you are allowed to drive until you reach the age of 21.

andy993 This comment needs more upvotes! Too many people don't realize that the hard part of owning a 10 to 15 year old luxury car isn't being able to pay down the purchase price, but being able to pay for the maintenance as well. If you would compare the 5 year ownership costs of a 360 to that of a new car, you could have probably driven a high end BMW or Audi sports car for the same money.
15
American manufacturers don't understand luxury cars. They think bigger mean more luxurious. Europeans won't buy Cadillac's? It's probably because we didn't make the previous version big enough!
14
My exact thought on this. Same as Doug's review on the Mercedes Metris (sprinter).
12
He's the type of guy to forget there is a car market outside the United States as well. An A6 is still a pretty common car for it's price range here (although like 80% of the ones on the market are the wagon version).
12
@thedeaddonkey8018 Yeah, that's why a 10 year old S class is so cheap. Everything that was state of the art back then, is fairly dated now and likely to break.
11
In the Netherlands you would also occasionally see them. Because our vehicle taxing system used to be extremely friendly towards electric cars many of those early electric cars became relatively common here (Fisker Karma for example).
11
The buttons on the steering wheel of a Bentley Continental are the same as in a Volkswagen Golf. But honestly, I like that about the VAG concern; If you are used to a VAG car, it doesn't matter if you step in a Skoda Fabia or a Bentley Bentaga, the car just instantly feels familiar to you!
11
I say in general, in combination with the horrible pioneer system, makes this van look like it's straight from 2006.
10
I nearly died of alcohol poison
9
@Waynekurr I got instantly reminded of that guy from Better call Saul! XD
9
@chasethecarguy it's spam, don't pay attention to it.
9
Yeah, he dresses up in a three piece suit (in California where it is super hot) for a video while dough is always in a T shirt. Wouldn't call it that much down to earth.
8
Speaking as a person who's initials are SS; so fucking true.
8
@denalisiomontpellier4064 I mean, I like cars. But I also don’t understand the race to ever bigger SUV’s leven hatchbacks obsolete. Those large SUV’s don’t even make sense on the European roads, they barely fit in some narrow streets and require multiple parking spots.
8
Are we ignoring the huge band-aid on Doug's face?
8
That's why you should only buy these cars when they are past 15 years old and qualify as youngtimers, so you can pay for the maintenance from your pre-taxable income (at a 52% tax rate, that means the IRS is paying for half your costs), and instead of paying 20% of 350K a year, you pay 30% over 75-100K as additional taxation for owning this car!
7
@limyohwan It's a commercial grade vehicle that is build to last long even with heavy usage. It's not meant to be compared to a suburban mom's MPV. It's meant to last 300k-600k miles without serious issues. However, I do think the price might be on the steep side due to import taxes.
7
I went on a vacation to Florida with my parents in 2009 and I had the same experience! A Hummer is a pretty rare vehicle here in Europe, but in Florida it was super common!
7
That's a prototype. Unlikely it will ever hit the market.
7
Someone once joked that Doug was denied a job at Maserati, I more and more start to think that this is true. Or he has just learned to rip on Maserati during his time working at Porsche.
7
To be fair, I have driven a similar parkour in a Mitsubishi Outlander and even seen Dacia Dusters do that.
7
I mean, the 5 series is basically a thing of the past anyway with everybody switching to SUV's.
7
You can really tell in Doug's voice how much he likes this car!
6
The Ford Mustang was the first car to even make me consider driving electric (although in the end I still picked a gas vehicle).
6
I really wish they had just offered an electric version of the regular E-Class. If I could just buy an electric car that looks like a normal car, it would already take away one major hurdle for me to drive electric. The BMW i4 is the only electric car I have given serious consideration so far and it's for that reason.
6
@didybopintitys yeah but his information is just plain wrong sometimes. Take his review of the Mercedes Sprinter, which is a commercial van. He compared that to high end MPV’s.
5
I think they said in the pas that they were waiting for electric power trains to further develop since up to now they were still a bit mediocre which is not a term generally associated with Rolls Royce.
5
That Toyota Hilux is probably more rare in the Netherlands than the Fisker, it actually sold well in the Netherlands
5
that may be true, but it still looks cheap and low quality for a car of it's class. The buttons could be aluminum at least, or a center console that looks as if it comes from a car that is five years old already. This looks like something you would expect from a small independent producer, not a major motor company like Ford.

The Espada logo on the sword makes it look like a shish kebab to me!
4
@cjscarsandcrap1749 I’ve had one in every car I have ever owned. Most of the times you can tell the dealer installed it before delivery so it doesn’t come from the factory. But it’s really a common thing that’s been around for over 10 years.

Frikandel speciaal en een Bami hap!!!
4
My uncle has one as well for 5-6 years now, never had any problems with it. Everybody unanimously agrees that the duo-select system was terrible, but if you buy one that is slightly more modern, I don't think it's that bad of a car (granted that there are always risks with an older car, and with a luxury car, those are expensive risks).
4
Times and tastes change. A few years back you would pay extra to have chrome details on your car. Now the chrome comes standard and you pay extra to have black details.
4
Rolls Royce and Bentley actually made practically the same cars back in the days. The 2001 Rolls Royce Corniche is the same car as this one, although there are a lot fewer made.
4
A lot of people in my family drive Maserati and it has not been easy to them them to watch Doug Demuro though.
4
@user-pn3im5sm7k True story though
4
If we want a future for electric cars, please stop bringing out SUV's. Sedans just make so much more sense aerodynamically. The EQE is the only electric car I would seriously consider right now since it's one of the few with a range of almost 700 KM.
4
Should point out that this is purely the case for the United States. I can still buy a new Ford Fiesta hier in the Netherlands. I actually got a brand new Ford Focus wagon 3 months ago.
3
I mostly noticed how Doug completely neglected the fact that the Nintendo DS had this feature 15 years ago!
3
I'm not sure if it's different in the States, but here in the Netherlands they do seem to hold their value better than equal models from BMW/Audi/Mercedes though. Even though they are honestly in every way a worse car, the brand name apparently does command a premium.
3
A friend of mine had a car like that 10 years ago and we actually got stuck in the McDonalds drive trough with it since it's ridiculous size is just unfit for European roads.

So for the Dutch market; - Lexus LS; 7 for sale, cheapest from 2007 starts at 25K, cheapest youngest generation actually starts at 45K (I can get a good middle class car for that price). - Lexus LX; 1 for sale, 2007 model 38K. Again; that's serious money for a 2007 car. - Hyundai Equus; Non for sale - Volkswagen Toareg; 40 for sale, cheapest is 15K, a model with less than 120K on the clock starts at 35K. Now we are getting somewhere. - Mercedes G Wagon - 180 for sale, starting at 24K, however these are the really old 1970's models. if you want younger than 15 years and less than 160K on the clock you are already looking at 50K.
