  2.  @jeffd2398  To some extend maybe, it lacks behind on a BMW. But not as bad as Doug brings it. He really has it out for this brand. My uncle has a Quattroporte of the previous generation and he recognizes none of the problem that Doug is mentioning about the car, and for most of the problems that are real, a solution exists already.

  7. I like that the i7 is a normal car. I hate how electric cars generally have this weird "futuristic" look to them. I would be much more likely to pick an electric car if I could just pick a 3 serie and then opt between gas or electric power train.

  10. The asking prices are getting in the right ballpark, but the car debuted in 2010, so that means it's gonna take roughly 3 years before the first models qualify as youngtimers and their tax base goes down to like 75K where the tax base is now still 350K.

  14. It is quality wise a very durable car. It doesn't have many slick and new options which can break easily so it's convenient for taxi's that make a lot of millage and have to deal with people and luggage getting in and out all the time.

They are just used to being driven around in a Maybach for over 15 years already and have no desire to switch to a different, more modern car now, so they are willing to pay good money for a model that's as close to new as it gets for a car that's been off the market for 9 years and sold in low volumes.

  17. @The car enthusiast - Vincent Read "The Millionaire next door", most rich people live a modest lifestyle because that enables them to become rich in the first place (earn a lot, spend little). For Dough, I would say he spends a disproportionate amount of money on his cars, because that's his business. So he has less money to spend on other things (like his cloths).

  18.  @venom5809  I wouldn't say it's BS, but I also don't see the book as a pathway to becoming a millionaire. But there are many older people who have indeed accumulated huge amounts of wealth just by living modestly. Especially in property values. Both my grandparents have houses that are currently valued over one million Euro's and no mortgage, despite one of my grandmothers having been a teacher all her life. And yes, I certainly agree that some people spend things just differently. Everybody knows that Warren Buffet still lives in a modest house, but very few people know he also has a beach house in California worth 100MLN+. Or that Bill Gates is a collector of exotic cars and frequently charters mega yachts for his vacations. But I certainly believe there are plenty of older people who just happened to become rich by living modest, or holding on to a piece of property in the right location for all of their lives.

  20. I'm no expert on chemistry, but I do find it notable how in Europe diesels are being pushed out for being more polluting and yet the United States is trying to introduce diesel als an environmentally friendly alternative

  21. I remember how Fisker came to the Netherlands one year before Tesla and was actually pretty successful here. They sold like 20% of their total volume here and it was not an uncommon car here.

  22. The Emergency Hammer (actually called Life Hammer), those come standard with every new car in Europe. So yes, my Skoda Octavia and Seat Ateca actually both have two of them (one for the driver, one for the passenger).

  23. You are incorrect about the EU emissions law btw. It's true Aston Martin build this car in anticipation of that law, but the law was eventually changed to exclude small manufacturers. Yet they still decided to bring the car to the market anyway.

  26. The mini could almost fit in the Hummers trunk! :D But in all seriousness, they are made for two different markets, the mini is very convenient in narrow and busy European city streets, where the Hummer would be completely out of place.

  27. zloychechen5150 Make that: If you know that you have at least two parking spaces to park your hummer! Cause that thing won't fit in your average parking spot here in Europe! :D  But I guess that as long as you stay out of the major cities, it will generally not be so much of a problem. :)

Good luck, but in the end, that unlimited millage warranty means that you have to service your car at a official Aston Martin Dealership, costing you at least 1000 dollars to service your car, where a specialized garage could probably do it for 500 dollars. Also, if you are going to drive it a lot, parts will wear down faster. Parts that aren't build to last, but build to perform so their expected lifetime was already low (max 5000 miles for tires on a sports car is not abnormal). Normal wear and tear is not covered by the warranty, but to keep your warranty, you will be required to replace those parts at the Aston Martin dealer, again at a premium price. You will be paying for your minor fixes in tenfold most likely.

  30. Guy Fawkes I'm generally quite skeptical about people talking about "their" or "their friends Ferrari" on the internet as well. But this one sounds like it could be true to me. In major cities, especially in the nightlife districts, you are guaranteed to find gold diggers that are willing to spread their legs for any guy that drives a expensive car, regardless of how he looks like. I've had similar experiences while driving a friends GT-R. I also got attention from girls that would normally be way out of my league (not as extreme as girls jumping into the car though).

  32. This is indeed probably the best value Porsche you can buy today. However, the complaint about the egg shaped headlights mainly effects the pre facelift version of this vehicle. Compared to that, the version you are showing here, was already a step upwards.

  35. Another argument from personal experience; the reputation of a car isn't everything. A car's reliability really depends on how a car has been used and maintained and even then there is still a black box. Therefore I often find it better to buy a used car with a bad reputation where this is already factored into the price over paying a premium for a car that's good on paper, but within a year becomes a money pit anyways. I have had bad experiences with a low millage Volkswagen and Toyota while I know people who have driven old Range Rover Sports, Maseratti Quattroporte's and Bentley Continentals without any serious problems...

  38. Another brand that could be mentioned; Jaguar. It used to be such a desirable brand but right now I feel like it's pretty much death. Land Rover's Range Rover line has been thriving since consumer demand shifted towards SUV's, but I feel like Jaguar has been left behind.

  41.  @GAMEVIDSnorwegian422  Saab didn't leave GM, GM got rid of Saab because it wasn't doing very well, while at the same time leaving Saab extremely dependent on them cause Saab leased all it's patents and got all it's parts from GM. That is also why Saab had a hard time finding a buyer before it went bankrupt, GM was able to block deals that they didn't like (like, Saab going to the Chinese) and it ended up going for peanuts to a Spyker which was on the verge of bankruptcy themselves.

  43. It's already not a new car so the biggest thunk of depreciation has already been taken by the previous owner. But it can still make economic sense; my father used to buy a "new" one year old C class every year since it was not much more expensive than keep driving it for a longer period. Also, the dealer had put up a scheme where they new precisely who would want to buy a new model every year, who would want the one year old model and who they could sell the two year old car to so everything could be handled off fast, with little risk to the dealer and at a reasonably priced.

  44. A leased C class sedan is a car for fresh graduates in the United States? In the Netherlands you are at least in middle management with 5-10 years of experience before a C-Class becomes a reasonable option.

  45. The Volvo V90 Station is still a very popular model in the Netherlands and Scandinavia actually (where the V70 has been one of the best sold cars for decades).

  46. For the European market; Alfa Romeo; The Tonale has been selling okay, but I agree the other models are in need of a major upgrade. Even though the Giulia is still one of the best looking cars on the road today. But they have always been a niche brand compared to the big German 3. Buick; Has never been sold here. Some models were sold by GM under the brand Opel. But they have sold that brand to Peugeot-Citroën. I don't think GM has any presence in the European market at all these days. Crysler; They used to have a presence in the European market in the late 2000's. The 300 was a good selling car here for a while. Also, the PT cruiser was a car you would sometimes see on the road. But after the merger with Fiat they tried to sell them for a while under the Lancia brand. Which failed horrible, since the people buying it really wanted to buy it because of how tough and American it looked. Fiat; They have more models here, but with the notable exception for the 500, which is still a good selling car, nothing that's noteworthy from a volume perspective. Infinity; It never sold well and it's already left the market for several years. Mitsubishi; On it's deathbed waiting for someone to end it's suffering. The only car that it sells right now is a 5 year old Renault Clio with a different badge on it. Mini: Same as Fiat really; The Cooper is still a pretty popular premium hatchback. But the other models don't really sell in notable numbers. They do have the advantage that they are always sold at BMW dealers so they don't need their own dealer network.

  47. The biggest advantage of this Mercedes is it's quality and durability. It's not meant for a soccer mom to bring her kids to school, it's meant to be used as a taxi where it will be put trough a lot of stress driving a lot of miles and with people and luggage getting out of it all the time. There are no luxury items or electronics that break easily, no decorative design elements to scratch. It's just durable and practical.

  49. When I was still into car spotting myself, I also once spotted a Carrera GT. It also was in a location where you wouldn't expect a car like this; Saturday morning in a small village, in an empty street where some construction work was going on. It looked much smaller than I would have imagined it to be. At first I really thought it was just a Boxer so I totally get that it would not get noticed that much.
