Very underrated car. This is a perfect example that many people prefer badge over the actual car. This Infiniti drives almost as good as a comparable BMW 5 Series and has a ton of tech inside it. On top of that it's reliable and not as expensive to maintain. Amazing used car value.

I honestly prefer vehicles like this over the Tesla because the build quality is there. Hyundai/Genesis build quality is excellent for their price points.
67
Since the Fusion has such terrible depreciation I'll be able to pick up one of these in 2 years at 2/3 of the price when new.
42
What's your point? That's like saying "Yeah you're only rich because your hard work and investments paid off". GM moved into a new market where Asian branded cars have dominated for decades and did an amazing job with their marketing and products.
38
125HP? More like the Nissan Punts.
29
Yep. It's the B58. Same plastic electric water pump, plastic cooling pipes, EGR issues, carbon buildup and potentially injector issues.
28
I wish more people thought like you. Right away people have the balls to say their Hyundai is better than MBZ, Audi and BMW just because their Hyundai is chocked full of tech one might not really use and those things don't really make the car better. I'd take a base Benz like this simply because of the solidity, safety, stellar ride and handling and refinement. Sure it will cost me a bit more in the long run but it'll be a nice ride for a very long time.
24
@Shuffle3956 So how does that make it a POS? Older proven tech is far better than newer tech from a reliability aspect. You want the new BMW 7 Series with all that useless gadgetry just to say you're trendy? Go right ahead, you'll know your entire service staff at your local dealership.
23
That One Ford Guy I wouldn't say lower class and that doesn't make much sense when you say "people who want a Mercedes but can't afford one" as this is a Benz. It's definitely basic but it has all of the things that made MB famous in the first place. It's solid and well built and you do feel it when going down the road or hell even when you close the doors. It's also safe and it's a refined package altogether. Sure it doesn't have the latest tech but let's be honest nobody really needs backup camera, lane departure warning and a host of other nannies that could fail. This SUV and the C Class won't break the bank to maintain but still be a cut above the rest which is definitely a win in this category.

@apocalypse13 While the CVT "shifts" through gears it only happens during spirited driving. In daily commuting it still hangs and drones which is the annoying bit. I understand CVTs in basic vehicles like the Kicks, Qashqai and Sentra but not in a sport sedan. The Toyota Camry XSE V6 with an actual 8 speed auto kills this car in every aspect. We have both an 09 Sentra and a 18 Kicks and the CVTs, while both different, still have that CVT feel and for economy minded vehicles it's just fine but not for a sport sedan.
20
I love BMW vehicles but why does the general base of BMW drivers have to be such douches and to top it all off why are the salespeople at BMW dealerships so damn snobby?
18
I'd still take a Lexus or European equivalent though this car is a very good attempt by Hyundai. The thing is they should stick to making more basic affordable cars because they do that very well and offer a ton of car for the price. Hyundai should focus their efforts in that area of the market.
16
A sport package MB looks like it's for old people? Get your eyes checked. Also, the W204 scored above average for reliability and for a German car that's great. I see tons on the road and if they were crap that wouldn't be the case. Drive one, you'll appreciate the solid feel, stable ride, quiet highway ride and good noise isolation. The sport package models also handle quite well.
14
@mlamike Except the XT6 is pushing $70 grand when the MDX and RX can be had in the $50 grand range. This is basically a fancy Chevrolet Traverse which is around the $37 grand range. Same engine, transmission and chassis. There are so many other options including the excellent Lincoln Aviator.
12
Tell that to the family members of the dead people. GM has taken your tax dollars (if you actually work and pay that), moved most of their manufacturing elsewhere in the world, have the most arrogant attitude when it comes to the execs and are now only making products that could compare to the old days and you stand by them? Had it not been for the stiff competition the Germans and Japanese are giving GM would never aim high and continue to make plastic crap. These cars are better now but that CUE sucks and all that shiny plastic will scratch, get finger printed and dusty quickly.
11
To that clown that posted a few spots below me on the 3 Series being superior you obviously haven't driven a Merc. The W204 was a solid, safe, refined and stylish sedan if equipped correctly with the sport or AMG sport package. It had a plain interior but everything felt solid and the structure of the car felt rock solid keeping in tune with what a Benz should feel like. Reliability was very good too and didn't have the weak spots a BMW has (plastic cooling pipes and plastic electric water pump). BMW was the more fun car to drive but for those who wanted a bit more comfort with enough sport the W204 was a fine choice.
11
Well you can blame the customers for that. If people will buy them, the manufacturers will keep making them.
10
Darkivaz - AAA Then why does our old Expedition (with the 4.6 not the 5.4) still run great at 280k and 15 years old? It's gotten only oil/filter changes, trans fluid change, some suspension components and a tune up it's entire life and runs just fine. Everything works inside the vehicle and AC blows ice cold. What fell apart again?
10
Definitely one of the best looking designs I've seen in a while for the segment and of course being a Mazda it will be fun to drive and reliable. The thing is though there should have been a V6 option. Good fuel economy can be achieved with a V6 too plus they operate much smoother than any 4 cylinder I've driven.
9
Not really. Just be weary of the plastic cooling pipes and change them at the 100k mark even if they're not cracked. Also, changing over to a water pump with a metal impeller would also be a good idea. Those are the only 2 weak spots on a BMW, they're rock solid otherwise and fun to drive.
9
Sweet ride. If you purchase a used one make sure you buy an extended warranty.
9
It's funny how foreign car companies employ more than GM, Ford and Chrysler in America yet somehow Americans still have that mentality "Out of a job yet? Keep driving foreign". As far as I'm concerned these cars have more American made parts than crash prone GMs.
8
@SDav21 Since when is a car all about tech? If a car is full of tech it's only going to become obsolete faster. Toyota goes for less "tech" and more functionality along with probably the most important thing in a car ever; RELIABILITY. Besides, in terms of what the majority of the population uses a Toyota has it. Navigation (phone is better anyway), bluetooth connection, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a decent front headlight system.
8
It was by far the best driving generation once you ditched the crappy RFTs though. Firm ride and excellent handling and the comfort seats were probably the most comfortable seats available in a car. I haven't driven an F10 but many F10 owners who had E60s before wish they kept their old E60s.
8
@Shuffle3956 I like the Sequoia and the 4 Runner because of that very reason. Any little issues they're known for will be well documented and already rectified. As much as I like the newest vehicles available I know that I can get one of these and spend the next 300k miles on the road with only minor issues and regular maintenance. Look at the most technologically advanced vehicles from even 10 years ago... They're rotting on some shitty used car lot costing less than 1/10ths of their original price because they're broken. How is that good engineering?
8
BMW has way too many vehicles in their lineup. All that ends up happening with stuff like this is a bunch of one-off products that have no continuity.
8
@Allthingschrysler CVTs, especially the Jatco CVTs, are problematic. Some run fine while others fall apart. Nissan's warranty division spends a ton of money replacing faulty units with many of their models and more often than not those models are pretty low mileage. The biggest issue is the lack of consistency with regards to the reliability of the CVTs.
8
I think he did a fine job. He praised the power and feel of the car and whiles Japanese cars aren't as solid as German cars they are bulletproof reliable and that's the cold hard truth. MB has consistently been reliable since around 2007 after a dismal few years but nowhere near that of the Japanese cars. I'd still roll in a Benz though.
7
Exactly. The Stang will move like hell in a straight line but also take the corners much better than the Camaro and Challenger. The thing is though I'm hearing of a lot of problems associated with the 6MT in the 2011 and up Stangs. It seems as if the Challenger and Camaro have a better powertrain in terms of reliability. Can't complain about a Chevy smallblock for reliability.
7
Mercedes Benz CLA 250 FWD owners: "iTZ sTilL A HyUnDAi!!!". Get over it, the Koreans have never rested on their laurels and got complacent. They keep improving every generation.
7
Lol the 3G fanboys really have this mentality that the 3G is the be all end all of Acura TLs. Yeah the styling was much nicer and refined but this newer Acura is still the best driving on the bunch.
7
The Volvo sounds like a Toyota Corolla with that Twincharged motor. The V6 in the SQ5 sounds fantastic. It doesn't have fake exhausts (of course it has an exhaust) it has fake tips.
7
@SDav21 Except the CLA drives like crap. Rides brittle, the doors rattle upon closing and the interior is cramped and plasticy all while still costing over $40k. Sure maintenance is a big factor in how a car will feel in the long run but nothing can correct the horrid driveability the CLA has especially when the above mentioned traits are the most important thing about Benzes.
7
I like the fact it's a 6 seater. It's better to seat 6 in comfort versus making 3 of the passengers squished together.
7
These V6 models go for a good price at Mazda dealerships. I'm willing to sacrifice some MPGs for the extra power.
7
Nutritional Chemistry You're mostly right. Once in a while you find those gems that were very well maintained from a mechanical and cosmetic perspective and those are the used German cars you go for if you're in the market for those otherwise yes, these vehicles will nickel and dime you to death.
6
I like the design but what I'm not convinced about with Hyundai/Kia products are the longevity of the parts on the vehicle. They're offering a ton of car for the money so it makes me think they had to cut somewhere. I've read so many complaints about the Elantra and other models suffering from premature brake wear, needing new struts, control arms and wheel bearings at very low mileage which means the nice refinement of the vehicle degrades rather soon requiring replacement of parts.
6
Yeah they really need to fire the team that make the decisions at Acura. Where's the logic in taking out the 2 top sellers and merging them into one new nameplate? Also, all of their quirky cars like you mentioned like the Honda S2K, Prelude, fun to drive Civic Si (not the new one) and the NSX are all but forgotten. The RLX is a flop, the new MDX has major mechanical issues and I'm wondering if Acura has solved their tranny problems as of yet.
6
Haha yeah I don't get the point in bitching about it 3 or 4 times in one review. If you can afford a car like this then you can afford the option packages you like. Also, if you option it out with around $5000 worth of options and finance over 36 months you'll hardly feel the bite of the extra options. That's the only reason why Hyundai sells cars, they chock them full of electronics but forget that driving characteristics, solidity, comfort and quietness are also important aspects of a car. I rather a solid basic Benz vs. a decked out Hyundai because I value driveability and safety.
6
Even better would be VW TDIs. People sometimes beat the EPA fuel rating. Kia and Hyundai are badly inflating their numbers and they were actually sued because of it.
6
In today's market this is the truck to get. Simple, reliable and everything maintenance and repair related is well documented. This is the choice I'd make if I needed a simple practical work truck or even a daily driver. All of that DFI, turbo, automatic this and automatic that are ruining vehicles and sure you get a bit more MPGs but down the road you're faced with expensive repairs or you're forced to buy an extended warranty because you're scared about potential repairs.
6
I was impressed with the 2015 Sport with 2.0T motor. It had a good ride/handling combo, the powertrain was refined and smooth and he amount of options the car came with was staggering given the price point. I can only imagine how good this 2020 Sonata is.
6
I sat in an XSE V6 at the Auto Show and this version of the Camry really has me interested. 301HP and still comfy and spacious. Add in good reliability and reasonable maintenance costs this car is definitely on my list.
6
I still don't get the point of this particular model. Either you go for the IS200T or the IS350 if you want the more powerful option. A V6 Camry will starch this IS300 and yes this car is more luxurious but if the power plant is lacking then what's the point?
5
It does in city driving. My Mom has an 09 Sentra and the thing seems to work very hard on uphill driving and in city driving. The only time it works well is on the highway where it allows the engine to rev rather low. Not to mention CVTs drain any kind of fun the car had.
5
Overall German cars are quite reliable although there are some weird weak spots. My Uncle owns a 2004 330ci and the entire cooling system is made of plastic vs. flexible rubber hoses and the water pump has a plastic impeller. Also the 3.0 variant of the N52 can suffer the oil pump nut problem where the nuts backs out but he did preventative maintenance by loctiting it in place. Also, BMW makes their V8 motors run at 105C vs. 90C and many owners have a sneaking suspicion it's to make the seals break down faster so the car returns for repair. Everyone who changed over to a 90C thermostat never had oil seal or gasket problems like the ones with a 105C thermostat have.
5
These 6MTs had a huge problem where they jumped out of gear. People had to use a whole different fluid to correct the issue and Acura still hasn't admitted fault. That and the 5AT with the TC chatter. Not sold on Acuras anymore, they used to be awesome especially with the 3G TL but I really don't know where they're headed.
5
That's the thing. Many manufacturers are getting issues with the carbon buildup in the DI motors which means less efficiency and power anyway and a $500-700 carbon cleaning service every 30 or 40k miles or even less. In addition to that there's the turbos which will eventually need replacing and will be a pretty penny. I wonder if the real world fuel economy savings would translate to enough money to cover the parts that will go bad though I doubt it. None of these vehicles ever get what the EPA says they will get.
5
While I prefer German over Japanese I would probably choose an Infiniti if I ever had to go Japanese. Excellent design, interior quality, solidity, ride and handling.
5
Anything simple will hold up. Funny enough Honda is dropping the ball as of late with the 1.5 L engine.
