After watching this video to the end, I went over to my 2010 Yaris, thanked it and gave it a wash and a kiss.

When I took my Yaris to the dealer for a coupon oil change, they had a salesman call me to inform me that the car was in horrible shape, not safe to drive and he could get me a great deal on another used car. That was 5 yrs ago and both the car and myself are still alive.

Toyota is not at all convinced that electric is the way to go, so they have put forth a half-ass effort in their development.
306
Hybrids are pretty complicated and they got it right from the beginning. I would not trust any other brand with this technology.
211
This is at a lexus price point w/o the upscale quality and workmanship of the luxury brand everyone expects.

Being a talented technician makes you the perfect person to review cars for what they really are. Transportation devices, that you need to be useful and reliable.
131
Cars are so expensive and you don't even get a real bumper. Even a 10 mph hit will cost thousands to repair..
95
main reason I would buy a Corolla Hatch over a sedan is that the former is made in Japan.
81
@withgrowinginsanity198 Modern cars will report you to authorities if you kiss it too much.
57
Based on both durability and reliability, the V8 is a no-brainer. Not even having a Diesel option is bad.
46
I think grandpa is just gonna have to settle for a good ole Camry.
45
I wish you could get a hold of a first gen Camry and show how much the car improved thru the years.
37
Have owned 1986 1998 and now 2010 Would not really want to buy a new one.
35
To me, Toyota is the King of hybrids Period. When Toyota puts their minds into doing something really well, they do it. LS 400, Hybrids, Sienna 3rd gen Camry are just a few examples.
34
All that complexity just to add a miniscule amount of mpg's to a vehicle is another case of government mandated BS
28
My son had a 2008 XB and I noticed that as early as 36k miles, it was already using oil. I checked the oil 2 mos after an oil change and it was down one quart, it had already passed the warranty period.
21
I hope they're testing the waters and eventually import the Yaris GR as well.
20
At the very beginning of Lexus they had the LS 400 and a fancy Camry that they called the ES250 with a V6, leather interior and lots more sound deadening.
17
Scotty Kilmer without the BS or click bait.
16
I bought a 2010 with 100k miles in 2016. It now has 180k miles, zero issues. I would drive it across the USA with no hesitation.
15
Top Gear had an anti Japan bias. I quit watching it because of it. Always praising European cars no matter how unreliable they were, as if that issue did not matter at all. And anything from the USA, forget about it.
15
With the Prime, you may be able to skip the gas station altogether for normal everyday use.
15
@tomdurkins Sounds like a Tesla fan boy
14
Hate it, I would never buy a car that does not allow me to disable it.
14
@disarchitected Toyota will be proven correct, the market for EV's is limited, despite all the Teslas you see on the road, You barely see any other EV brand.
12
I'd pick the Corolla hybrid over this, looks more conventional and it will not attract cat thieves.
11
I'll stick to Japanese made models, even if it means buying used. I prefer the Corolla Hatchback or if I must have a hybrid, then the regular Prius.
10
I would pay a bit more for the hatch, since they're made in Japan. Higher work ethics.
10
Toyota should stick to their guns and just concentrate on making the best hybrids in the world. EV's are just a joke and will fail. A plug in hybrid, IMO, is the very best compromise.
9
I had a choice between buying a used Yaris or a Prius C, (same car, only the C is a hybrid) to avoid over complication and only getting a little better mileage, i got the much simpler Yaris.
8
@clover7359 Their first effort was a freaking disaster.
8
My last new Toyota I bought (98 Corolla) did not have those rubber plugs installed, I found them in the glove box and had to learn where to install them myself. Lousy dealer prep.
7
@jonofjord1663 Meanwhile the Diesel exhaust coming out of trucks and buses chokes us to death.
7
The Prius is one of the most reliable Toyota models.
7
Watching this gentleman work so well, it reminds me of the many lazy, incompetent mechanics I've had to deal with in my lifetime.
7
One time I replace Corolla engine mounts with aftermarket and that was one hell of a mistake.
7
10 yrs ago I got a used 2010 Yaris. 85k miles later, no engine nor transmission issues, only spent money on a new radiator and alternator. Everything else are wear items. Belts, brakes.
7
Skipped 2 things, CVT and direct injection.
6
Like: Smart cruise control, hate: everything else.
6
Call me crazy, but i'd take this over a Porsche, even tho the German handles better, but I'd trade in the handling for the reliability.
6
100% more trustworthy than the car mags and Motorweek. I wish he could get his hands on a Yaris GR.
6
My 98 Corolla had the same issue at 425k miles, but the interior and paint was in bad shape so I got rid of it and got a used Yaris with a lot less miles
6
@deanmartin2332 And the sensors, and the cameras and the support behind the plastic, if its hit hard enough?
6
I always thought the Corolla 1.8 aluminum engine from 1998 to 2002 was the worst oil burner of all?
6
My 2010 Yaris with 175k miles still has original struts and shock in rear, rides fine and no leaks. Replacing the front struts is a major pain to replace so I hope they last me a long time.
6
My in-law bought a new Caddy from a NYC dealer and when he went to pick it up, it would not start. LOL I would have made them rip the contract at that point.
5
What can you tell us about the problems Toyota is having with the new 4 Runner blower motors? I understand there is a service bulletin about it.
5
Problem with buying one of these (or any Toyota) used is that unless there is written proof, you don't know if the original owner did the needed maintenance on time.
5
Toyota stick to and improve hybrids, that is what you do better than anyone else.
5
My 164k mile Yaris is now using 1 quart between oil changes. I switched to high mileage synthetic since it has extra additives that help with seals and such.
