And of course, if the virus DID come from a lab, it begs the question of whether the leak really was accidental, or was a stealth biological attack intended to wreck the US economy and get rid of Trump.

  15. Nobody wants a situation where you must use nukes or surrender. Also, Russia has a bunch of Turkic minorities (Chechens, Tatars, Kazaks, etc.) that will eventually be minorities. If they rise up, will Russia nuke them? Russia needs to be able to deploy its troops efficiently. Better borders help a lot.

  23. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled based on the U.S. Constitution. That pretty much MAKES it the federal government's (and thus the U.S. Supreme Court's) business. The U.S. Supreme Court has ALWAYS had a say (the final say, in fact) in interpreting the Constitution. Add to that the fact that Donald Trump has been ACCUSED of insurrection, but has never been CONVICTED, or even TRIED for insurrection. IIRC, the Constitution prohibits denying anyone their rights without due process of law, and not only does the U.S. Supreme Court have the right, but the obligation, to overturn the Colorado Supreme Court Ruling. The Colorado Supreme Court knows this. It stayed it's own ruling until after the date when the 2024 election must be certified.

  25. Prices are double what they were under Trump. Democrats aren't interested in producing enough oil for America's domestic needs. Their fuel economy standards are killing ICE vehicles, and most people will never be able to afford EVs, even if the power grid could charge them. Democrats' objective is to end personal transportation for all but the wealthy, and force the rest of us to move back to their urban sh¡tholes and use public transport, where their pet thugs will rob us, and their DAs won't prosecute, because not letting Blacks rob Whites is racist.

  30.  @fathead8933  America is decoupling from China. Wages are cheaper in India and Mexico. Companies are moving out as fast as they can get their new factories built. A war with China is unlikely to be a high-intensity ground war. A MUCH saner strategy is to use the Navy, to cut off China's oil imports. China gets about 2/3 of its oil via tankers. Those tankers come from the Persian Gulf and Vladivostok. Put a shipload of missiles on Tsushima Island, and the Vladivostok Route is closed. The straits on either side of the island are only 50 miles wide, and tankers are big, slow, targets. The vast majority of China's navy (80%) is not capable of sailing to the Persian Gulf without refueling. The Chinese nave is a coastal defense force, not a blue water navy. The western Indian Ocean is beyond the range of China's land-based air and missile support. The Chinese ships that CAN reach the Persian Gulf are no match for the 4-5 Nimitz-class carriers that would intercept, and sink them. An industrial nation cannot function, much less carry out military operations, with 2/3 of its oil supply cut off.

  35. There is. But it doesn't connect with Russia, in the east. It's just a bit north of Melitopol. For Russia to use it for supplies, they need to connect with it through Crimea. The two Crimean lines connecting with it run through Kherson and Melitopol. The Ukrainians have Kherson, and they recently damaged a key bridge on the Melitopol line.

Even the Soviet Union recognized Ukraine as the UKRAINIAN Soviet Socialist Republic. Ukraine has been trying to get away from Russia since Catherine the Great conquered them. Hell, the Ukrainians saw Hitler as a liberator. How much does someone have to hate you, to make Hitler look good? Ukraine is NOT part of Russia. It has never been anything to Russia but an occupied, imperial possession. A master does not have a "right" to retain his slaves.

Russia, west of the Urals, is as big as the Lower 48, as flat as Kansas, and has not a single navigable river, mountain range, or even dense forest to anchor a defensive line. Western Russia is too sparsely populated to support a good road network. No Russian equivalent of the US Interstate Highway System or the German Autobahn, to shuffle troops around quickly. To defend Russia's borders, you either need a huge army, such as the Red Army, in Stalin's day, or an army extremely skilled at mobile warfare. ROTFLMAO!!! Since the time of Catherine the Great, Russia has dealt with this problem, by pushing its borders west and south, seeking to occupy more defensible terrain features, such as the Baltic and Black Sea Coasts, the Polish Gap (a bit west of Warsaw), and the Bessarabian Gap (modern-day Moldova). The Ukraine War is all about securing the Black Sea Coast, and securing a springboard into Moldova, and eventually Poland. Moldova would be low-hanging fruit, if Ukraine falls, and Putin already has a pet separatist movement stirring up trouble, there.

  46.  @speedwagon7562  It runs a lot of lights, but the northeast isn't that big on electric heat. Lots of heating oil gets burned to keep NYC from freezing. If the northeast wants to run everything off electricity, the St. Lawrence River isn't even close to enough. And the rivers in the northeast aren't that well suited for hydro. For good hydro, you want a river that runs in a narrow, steep canyon, so a short dam gives you a long fall. Hoover Dam is a classic example of the sort of place you want to put a dam, for hydro. Some coastal areas produce wind power, but nobody wants wind turbines spoiling their view. And, as the people living there collect Senators and Congresscritters the way ordinary people collect baseball cards, wind turbines don't get built there, anyway. If you like frozen Yankees, the Green New Deal is how you get frozen Yankees.

If military units are composed of single tribes, they will have unit cohesion, but will not take heavy casualties, as doing so would weaken their tribe, perhaps fatally.
