Because they KNEW that no SANE society leaves dangerous objects and substances lying around unregulated. The FIRST responsibility of gov't is to protect public health and safety. Perhaps you should spend less time licking the sweet lead of your gun barrels and learn the ACTUAL LAW on the issue. First, the possession of guns is a PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT; which is why that possession can be REVOKED. Second, this is the ONLY "individual right" debated by those who WROTE the Second Amendment: "but no person [INDIVIDUAL] religiously scrupulous of [AGAINST] bearing arms, shall be compelled [INVOLUNTARY] to render military service [in well-regulated Militia] in person." OBVIOUSLY that was VOTED DOWN BEFORE the proposed Amendment was submitted to the states for consideration and ratification. That means the Second Amendment -- the purpose of which was to establish a National Defense based on the well-regulated Militia -- is totally irrelevant to ANY "private" "individual" "right".

But I do know, as one who worked on automation of the law during the 1990s, that the courts always went for the most expensive computer hardware. That didn't guarantee judges knew how to use it beyond legal research -- they tended to have direct connection to West Publishing databases -- and writing decisions.
