Ein einziger Sonnenuntergang beweist, daß die Erde nicht flach sein kann. Keine Knopflöcher notwendig.
2
@sparehead8911 Actually, you can see Polaris and the Southern Cross in the sky at the same time- if you're pretty far south in the Northern Hemisphere. I've seen both from Hawai'i, for instance.
2
@trendynow1369 We've noticed that you have yet to give us any evidence for your claims. Pointing us to the wannabe Nazi beachbum does not constitute evidence. Here's some more evidence for the globe. Polaris is below the horizon from Australia. The apparent size of the Sun's disk is always close to 1/2 degree. Navigators have mapped the Earth quite accurately for more than two hundred years, and these maps only fit a globe. Now it's your turn.
2
@sparehead8911 Yep, and of course nearly 180 degrees apart. And yes, that's another proof of the globe, as if any more were needed.
2
@kevinskinner4986 I hear that NASA is planning a manned mission to the Sun. It will of course be conducted during the night.
2
... except that flat Earthers are not true skeptics, they are merely deniers.
2
True. That's why it's important that kids be shown how to see for themselves that the Earth is a globe. For instance, by building a sundial, watching the shadows on the Equinoxes, taking the altitude of Polaris... my father did those things with me, but there was nothing like that in school, just rote learning.
2
We've shown you pictures. You said FAKE!!!
2
Speak for yourself. Some only believe the Earth is round because that's what they were taught in school. Many of us know it's round because we've seen the evidence for ourselves.
2
Yep. On a flat Earth, there would never be a well-defined horizon, unless you were right at the edge looking south. Flat Earther explanations for the horizon always involve magic in some way or another.
2
@Easyork The "latest technologies" are confirming the shape of the Earth all the time, in many different ways. For instance, even without referring to the heavens, we can tell how far apart cities are, from fuel consumption of aircraft alone. These distances can be mapped on a globe, but cannot be made to fit a plane.
2
@ELZI_the_Light What do you mean, the Moon "spins like a disk"? The Moon orbits the Earth once a month. We only see one face because the Moon is tidally locked with the Earth. And as I said, if the Moon were flat and nearby, it would look oval from some places, just as a record does if you look at it from different angles.
2
@ELZI_the_Light And of course the Sun illuminates the Moon. The ancient Greeks figured that out. All the angles work out perfectly. How do you explain the phases of the Moon otherwise? Or lunar eclipses? Solar eclipses?
2
@ELZI_the_Light Sorry, I can't tell you why your comment was deleted, since I'm not youtube. My comments get deleted too. Sometimes I can guess why (usually because I talk about particular people or happenings), sometimes it's a mystery. But I seriously doubt that your (or my) comments were read or deleted by any human. Youtube doesn't have the manpower to manually check the content of comments, and no agencies care. And no, sorry, I'm not buying any "black Sun". I'm an amateur astronomer and know the skies quite well. The standard heliocentric model explains everything I see perfectly; there's no need to invent invisible magical bodies. But I don't really care what people believe, as long as they behave nicely. Cheers from snowy Waldviertel, Scott
2
@ELZI_the_Light ¿De dónde vienes?
2
The simple fact is that you don't need to fly to see that the Earth is a globe. Sunsets, maps, the altitude of Polaris, the shadows on the Equinoxes, and much more, all show it.
2
Not just Americans. As they say, there are flat Earthers all around the globe.
2
The thing is, many of us know the Earth is a globe, not just because we learned it in school or from our parents, but because we've gone outside and made observations that only fit a globe.
2
@christianpulido8360 One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat. Or taking the elevation of Polaris from three different latitudes. Or building a sundial. All things you can easily do yourself. Name some of the "so many inaccuracies" of the heliocentric model. And no, it's not based on circles, but on gravity. The Sun is in the center (well, the barycenter, but it's pretty much the same thing) of the Solar System, because it's far more massive than all the rest combined. The evidence for sunlight traveling to the Earth can be seen every day. And I'm not going to try to explain how we know the distance to the Sun, because it's long and complex- but if you're interested (a big "if") you can search "distance to Sun history".
2
Life on Earth actually evolved over billions of years. Is that a thousand times funnier to you?
2
What if we find out one day that Minnie Mouse lives on the Moon and is the Ruler of the Universe?
2
The Earth and skies don't lie. People do lie, including about God.
2
@XxlightxX So the real world is the father of lies? Interesting.
2
@andeewb Those latitudes would do nicely for your demonstration. Cheers from a bit south of you (Vienna), Scott
2
@Globeisahoax Axial tilt. It's the reason for the season.
2
@Globeisahoax How about looking up "axial tilt" and telling me what you find.
2
@oddjobbob8742 I've seen the Sun set. Not possible on a flat Earth without it being night everywhere at once. I've also taken the altitude of Polaris from several different latitudes, and the figures fit a globe and not a flat Earth. I've also seen the Sun rise and set twice in one day, on a flight far to the north. Also not possible if the Earth is flat.
2
I think this is a spoof, but as always, it's hard to be sure.
2
What matters is which color of M&Ms is poisonous.
2
But level =/= flat.
2
@yazzamx6380 Yep. I also made a comment recently that mentioned getting crushed by a stampede of unicorns, and it also got zapped. cheers from rainy Vienna, Scott
2
Why would it not be possible? Explain, please.
2
Unlikely, since the sunrise that causes every new day couldn't happen on a flat Earth.
2
@warmachineuk But don't you think it deserves 2/10 for originality?
2
@jakerojas4756 One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat. No schools, astronauts, or hammering necessary.
2
The legend that Columbus sailed to prove the Earth is round was started by the author Washington Irving in 1828, in his highly fictionalized biography of Columbus.
2
Free speech is an important right. But in the case of this topic, the shape of the Earth, it's beside the point. Censorship cannot stop anyone from going outside and making a few simple observations, which demonstrate that the Earth is a globe.
2
@sparehead8911 Indeed. We must wonder about the state of CGI in 1946, when the first photos of the Earth from space (above the Kármán line) were taken, that clearly show the curved edge?
2
@Lee.S..B That's an interesting demonstration of the direction of the magnetic fields I've never heard, thanks. Good work here, btw. Cheers from rainy Vienna, Scot
2
@robertdakic6503 No, actually the shift of magnetic north over the years has been known for a long time, and it's been tracked quite accurately since 1831. No NASA necessary. If this sounds "stupid" to you, why don't you disprove it? There's a Nobel Prize waiting for you if you do.
2
My father built a sundial with my brother and me when I was about ten, that clearly showed the Earth couldn't be flat. How did the "government" and the "elite powers" affect that?
2
@Zripas My guess, admittedly with no hard proof, is that more than half of those claiming to be flat Earthers actually are. But as you say, it's hard to tell. And pretending to be a flat Earther is even sadder, in my mind, than actually being one.
2
@burntembers8806 It means nothing. Just messing around.
2
@MrSirhcsellor Yep. I'd add that Walter Bislin also has an excellent Earth Curvature Calculator online, the most thorough I know of. Some math knowledge necessary, though.
2
@amberharrison2954 One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat. No rocket ships necessary.
2
Nowadays, many flat Earthers say that the Sun, Moon, and the other planets are just "lights in the sky".
2
@Globeisahoax That's type 1.
2
It would make a big difference. Knowing that the Earth is a globe fits in with a coherent view of physics, math, and logic. If the Earth were actually flat, that would mean that nothing can be trusted to be coherent. I don't know about you, but I'd prefer coherency over an arbitrary magic in charge.
2
@cardinalRG C'mon, isn't that a bit too much to ask?
2
@cardinalRG Probably just shilling for reality as usual. What has reality ever done for you?
