For nearly 2 years He didn't plan defense in depth at the strategic level and didn't begin constructing defenses similar to what Russian general Suroviken did south of Zaporizhia. Currently, for the past few months, Ukraine has been building defenses, but they are farther back from the front near natural barriers. This design will inevitably allow Russia to gobble up territory as Ukraine fights backwards to those new defenses. However, given the short time frame where Ukraine finally realized such defenses were necessary, using the natural terrain barriers and high ground for locating defenses is more efficient than trying to build them nearer to where Russian artillery could hit or any breakthrough could render the incomplete defenses useless.

  11. 15:33 it's interesting that cluster munitions weren't intended for anti personnel use nor expected to be effective as an anti personal system. They were designed to eliminate soft targets like trucks and lightly armored vehicles like troop transports (BMP, BMD, BTR) or self propelled artillery. Probably the dumbest thing Russia did is give the West a chance to field test equipment, against unwilling volunteers, to see what actually is good for what and what needs improvement (like electronic interference with GPS guided munitions) as well as drone and anti drone tech and weapon systems. It's like if the bad college team shows their entire playbook to a very good high school team, that can hold its own against them, while the other college teams watching.

  22. 12:05 Correction. The US isn't "giving" Ukraine anything, at least not any more of a "gift" than a bank "giving" someone a mortgage or car loan. The aid to Ukraine is a loan, just as the aid to Britain was during WWII. Essentially, by accepting US aid, Ukraine is financing US economic growth in sectors related that aid AND allowing us to clear out old equipment and munitions to replace with new, thereby refreshing the shelf life. Aid to Ukraine is a win, win, win for everyone except Russia.

  23. Russian attacks on Ukrainian hospitals are intentional and no joke. I have a friend in Ukraine who was recently sick during the first of the recent increase in missile and drone attacks. She said she didn't dare go to the hospital just for normal medicine.

  30. 32:35 re, Ukraine and NATO At the point where Russia is pushed out of Crimea and eastern Ukraine, Russia will have ZERO reason to sign a "peace" treaty with Ukraine, and certainly won't with Putin in power. Russia may agree to a cease fire or an armistice, but the situation will look like North and South Korea, still technically at war. A country at war can't join NATO. For Ukraine to join NATO, Russia would somehow have to be convinced to a war ending treaty or the NATO Charter would have to be amended. The former won't happen with Putin in control of Russia, even if "Russia" devolves into a country of just St Petersburg and Moscow. The latter wouldn't happen while Article 5 requires all members to assist a member that is attacked, which Ukraine has been. So, Putin may actually be successful in ONE of his special operation goals, preventing Ukraine from joining NATO (by not agreeing to a war status ending peace). It's anyone's guess if Putin's eventual successor would sign such a peace.

In Rural US Republican states that depend on Federal money for education, they're freaking out about Trump talking of ending the dept of education which would eliminate the means to send education money to the states. Ironically, the leading Democrat states contribute more and receive less than the leading Republican states. In other words, Trump is going to give school money back to Democrat states that voted against him. The same thing is happening with Trump voters having spouses deported.
