  1. 2:32 For Zalensky, and many Ukrainians, it's understood that a peace will only be when Russia leaves Ukraine. He didn't expressly say it in those words. As other comments point out, he is referring to Russia realizing that they can never succeed in Ukraine and that trying to is decimating their economy and oil refining capacity (in addition to all the lives lost that Putin doesn't care about) and so at some point Russia will have to agree to a cease fire and Ukraine will then negotiate the withdrawal of Russian forces from occupied territory without having to directly liberate those areas on the battlefield. "You withdraw from Ukraine and we will stop our strategic bombing of your oil refining facilities." That's an example of a negotiated "recapture" of the occupied territory.

Those 2 statements are mutually exclusive. Only 1 can be true. So, like I said, and as you agree, the US allowed the Taliban to use Pakistan as a safe zone.

I have a friend, of Russian decent, who's Russian speaking (the exact person Russia claimed to be saving from the Ukrainian oppression and who Russia expected support from). She fled Donetsk during the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine to a more western city in Ukraine. As long as I've known her, she claimed she was Russian. After February 2022, she now says she's no longer Russian and is a proud Ukrainian. Essentially, she was Russian until Russia started shelling and shooting her friends and family in areas like Kharkiv and Mariupol. Russia definitely didn't even win hearts and minds of Russians in Ukraine by bombarding civilian areas,then raping and murdering civilians.

Thank you, actual Republicans, who remember that post Soviet Russia under Putin is no friend of the United States (and Putin has been and considered the US an enemy since at least Iraq 1, when Dubya invaded after Putin warned him not to and proved the world had passed Russia by). Ukraine is fighting the same fight we did in 1776. We had help in our fight. Anyone who values freedom ought to support Ukraine's fight.

You'll find bodies unless A, there were none or B, something else was on board that allowed the wreckage to burn hot enough and long enough cremate (like missile cargo). Even in B, you'd still need none of the bodies to fall away from whatever was burning so hot as the plane broke up. Even planes that crash leave a debris field. It's not all in one little heap. Or, the impossible C, Russia avoids an opportunity to show proof of dead Ukrainian POWs out of respect for the dead not putting them in media. There was a prisoner exchange scheduled. Russia does use aircraft to move POWs. Russia didn't provide Ukraine details on how the prisoners were being moved or use or request safe corridors. Russia has been building up forces in that area for an offensive. If there WERE Ukranian POWs, Russia was using them as shields. I'm figuring there were none. Who actually shot the plane down is still in question also.

  21. It's worth mentioning that Avdiivka was probably only lost because the US Republican Party stopped military aid to Ukraine for 7 months out of the 2.5 year war at that point. Russia's "strategy" depends on sending more troops than Ukraine has ammunition to deal with and the lack of supply enabled the Russian strategy to overwhelm Avdiivka.

The MOST valued position in a dictator's regime is the head of the military. A dictator's biggest fear is a military coup. Being removed from the position shows that Putin became afraid that the oligarchs had gotten to Shoigu as they begin playing 3D chess fighting over who will shape post Putin Russia. The fact that the new head of the military is an accountant with no military background also indicates that Putin intends more micromanaging of the military. It's the same thing Hitler did as his generals didn't deliver the results he wanted. 4:30 Putin certainly does like following Hitler's playbook despite proclaiming his hate for Nazis.

I can't remember if it was Jake or Ryan McBeth (before he turned to a crap sellout), but there is a component in the warhead that has to be maintained, replaced every so often, otherwise the warhead can't arm because the material in whatever part degrades and won't allow the warhead to arm when signaled to. If whoever was handling the funds allocated to maintain the missiles pocketed the money thinking they'd never be used (like the many tanks with fake ERA blocks, no anti missile system, etc), then those missiles and warheads might not work. Iirc, the US just had a couple misfires of submarine launched missiles. And that's from a country who is maintaining its equipment...somewhat.

  31. @fyr7343  Correction. Donetsk and Luhansk both voted for independence from Russia at the fall of the Soviet Union. They were both (as was Crimea) semi autonomous regions within Ukraine. People there didn't really care much what Ukraine OR Russia was doing. The status quo was fine. There was no discrimination or persecution against Russian speakers until AFTER the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine. And it was a Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine, not a separatist uprising. The original "separatists" were foreign criminals and anarchists which Russia transported to Ukraine and then supported with Russian special forces who trained them in basic tactics, use of captured equipment, and called in helicopter gunship support when Ukraine tried to respond. I have a friend who lived in Donetsk. She fled to a city farther west and called the "separatists" (aka foreign Russian proxy fighters) t*rrorists. She was one of the Russian speakers you suggest wanted independence from Ukraine. Prior to 2022, she would tell you she was Russian. After February 2022, she was Ukranian and hates Russia for what they've done to her country, to her home, to her grandmother (killed by "separatist" artillery fire as they moved into town, similar to the current Russian tactic), to her friends who lived in Kharkiv, and for stealing her heritage by making it bad to be Russian. THAT is the person you're suggesting wanted independence from Russia. People who didn't leave weren't "fighting for independence from Ukraine", they just didn't have resources to leave or believed the Russian propaganda on the TV saying "we're coming to help you!" (which was followed by artillery and then armed criminals and anarchists ranging through town). As a bonus the first president of the DPR wasn't Russian OR Ukrainian. As I said, foreigners hoping to be the next Kadyrov or wanting an outlet for their criminal tendencies.

Second, when Putin inevitably breaks the peace, NATO troops will be casualties and the US will be sending troops... Either to secure Ukraine or to fight Russia as Russia, emboldened by American weakness and disinterest in Europe, moves into European NATO countries.

Also, by suspending aid to Ukraine that was ALREADY passed into LAW, King Trump has usurped the Congressional branch power of controlling the purse and usurped the Constitution by ignoring the Separation of Powers laid out in the document. Trump swore an oath to protect the Constitution. He's broken that oath AND is a supporter of insurrection. Congress needs to stand up and reclaim their role. 9:15 Violation of the Emoluments Clause, which Trump got a pass on during his 1st term even though his businesses were turned over to a household member. We need a special prosecutor both for Trump and Elon to investigate their illegal and unconstitutional actions.

Because of their history of being invaded, Russia has a built in paranoia even if it's unfounded in this age. And, here we are today. The Ukrainians paying the price for the West trying to appease evil. And, STILL there is the appeasement mindset "don't want to upset Russia" (Biden with ATACMS, Scholz with Taurus). We learn slow. Send Ukraine everything they need, and then some, so they can defeat Russia on the battlefield and the US and Europe don't have to risk our soldiers lives fighting inevitable Russian invasion of the Baltics should Russia prevail in Ukraine. Get the war over with as quickly as possible saves the most lives, prevents the most destruction, and gets the world back to "normal" sooner.

Also, for people who think Ukranian lives would be saved if Ukraine didn't have the resources and equipment to fight against Russia's invasion, realize that if Ukraine capitulated, surrendered, that every fighting age man would be executed (or castrated) and every woman of child bearing age would be either raped or married off to a Russian soldier as a war prize. Russia would employ these measures both to punish the Ukranian people for resisting and embarrassing Russia as well as to mitigate the demographic crisis in Russia. Russia's missile campaign against civilians and the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam are designed to punish the Ukrainian civilians for resisting as is Russian soldiers castrating Ukrainian POWs. So, this "punishment campaign" and mindset of the Russians is already evidenced. Withdrawing military aid to Ukraine and preventing them from defending themselves from unwarranted Russian aggression would be much, MUCH worse for Ukrainian people than allowing Ukraine to beat the Russians back out of Ukraine.

If they can use scouts or forward observers to spot artillery and call in strikes against it, that frees up Ukrainian engineers to establish transport across the river. Opening up an attack vector there, while the current salient has Russian forces pinned to the east would allow Ukraine to attack from a direction that the Russians didn't plan for and for which the Suroviken defenses won't protect from. It's a matter of Ukraine taking opportunity where Russia gives it, similar to what happened in Kherson. I also think Ukraine intends to not repeat last year's mistake of giving the Russians the winter off to prepare defenses, fortify, resupply, and reconstitute units.
