The food companies like Compass are also to blame too. I hope you won't actually give up just yet... Not just yet.   2. I think you guys should do "private coach tours" again ! We used to have lots of coach tours from Sheffield into those seaside areas... and it was small but cosy, especially over summer holidays or holidays etc. Or to even have like community centres, running them? And then organise it... and that was a great way to get kids out and about, and also coordinated as well....

  6. I'm actually a bit surprised.. but I don't think that I went to that part of town of Blackpool though. We were closer to the Metropole Hotels.. and the Pleasure Beach part. And the Tower as well. I still remember cheap trips to Blackpool. (And they SHOULD run coach trips to Blackpool as well !! Especially for kids from the likes of London. Cos it is so cheap.) I used to take every single year, coach trips... organised by some local Chinese community centres... to get kids out and about the UK. And we would go to the Pleasure Beach. I remember getting rocks, and everything like that too. This shouldn't stop. Kids today, keep saying that, there is nowhere to go... but in truth.. in those days... to hire out an entire coach... and to have a day in the Seaside... For five pound ? Even if you bring your own sandwiches... This is a good day out ?.... I noticed that, the council where I live now... have brought the seaside to the city centre instead.. Every single Summer.. This is why people don't travel now as well. Some of the Scarborough's fish & chip places have also migrated into the city where I reside now. This is so odd. Blackpool had some of the lovely old buildings.... Mansion-looking as well !

  7. First of all... Blackpool has such a big dance presence.. They should have a local dance school. Or one that can have overseas' Olympic standard participants can use their facilities. That is for one. Then maybe also have a Cadbury's style... model to hold down some groups of local communities to hold the forte. Create a sustainable energy source. Being so close to the sea.. There should be a regular fishing trade as well. People go to the other East coast is both because of the fishing trade.. as well as the beach. But Blackpool could have both the sports aspect, as well as the maybe some central department or other like Dept of Transport or something. Since it has so many transport up there. Along with a local sustainable Cadbury's model.. and take it from there. Hotels can be slowly built back up as well. Because so many amusement parks have been opened in different areas in more inland areas... And that they run a strong tourism area as well. Blackpool has strong competitors.... This is why, it needs to be revised to be brought back into a working class town. Something of a commerce to exist in Blackpool... and then to have the actual hotel or tourism as a side business. Because it is near the coast, it should make the most of the coastal areas. Maybe some kind of marine R&D centres can exist there ? Some other Eastern coastal side also have large seaside zoo as well. With large real life animals etc. Maybe there ought to be an office for Green Peace.. or whatever international research base, that could stay there. Since it is exposed to the sea as well...

  8. The best way is to see Switzerland as a model to follow. And then a lot of glass. Well insulated. Warm. Just a single building can uplift. Then town planning can happen after.... Imagine that the Tower can be used for the BBC shows. Then build on top of businesses.... At least have good internet, so those who want a "work from home" can happen. So those who wants to mouse-hole from London, or wherever, then they can ? And if they want to get into Europe... or London, then a nearby flight is possible ? Better than even a train ! But those in the know... of Swiss Hotelier.... Their standards are super high. Really high.. that... it even trumps Dubai.   9. Maybe you could do what we did in our generation, which was mouse-holing.. i.e. Move elsewhere for a bit, and then back again. When my father first came to the UK, he was actually in London. We were all in London... being from HK as well... Even though if you read some of the social media articles now, we get so panned down... like no tomorrow.. but before the various financial crashes, that is what people did. They worked on the ships and moved with the goods across the globe, to sell. And that is how you used to find restaurants and various things opening up, cos it was trade. The whole share-scheme is just an anchor, to reduce from collapse. But the whole HMO thing isn't that sustainable.. People need to live cosily... and rebuild. I have been reading so much on Poundbury.. that was how we were raised too. I wish this generation would do something similar. As in... don't live in high rises, and pay commercial rental fees. Just be enough, and maybe live via a rental process. Just to cruise into another generation. When we were owning our family businesses, it used to be such that, if you don't want to live in a house any more, you need to apply to the local council and to convert your house into a shop. That was what most people did for their communities... and they provided support for one another. Sometimes, it isn't about the earnings... even if you have the richest of earnings, but you have no generation, and no people, to share that with.. Would you ever feel settled? Many don't feel settled. Money can also cause a lot of pain too. Even if you have a lot of it.

  10. It can be possible, if you project manage it yourself... and if you have the skills and the knowhows etc. There are "self build" groups on Facebook as well. I am in one of those. What do I think ? I think that the local Doncaster schools or college, should buy up this house.. and use it as their own construction lessons and build some apprenticeships around this. Invite those unruly kids... cos they smashed it in, then they need to sort it out. Turn them into a builder first.. and be hands on. And when they are done, then at least.. they can run their own side business if anything, or even to then consider doing other contract work, while holding down other jobs etc. Lots of people have a normal average pay 9 to 5 jobs, and then they have hobbies on the side on the weekends or the day off. That is so in Sheffield. Lots of people help each other out as well... where needed etc.

  11. Consider Yorkshire as a State... like the US.. it is very big... but what he is showing you, is just more or less like, one street or maybe two. So around maybe like 8 houses or under 20 houses. The whole area isn't always like this. The village which he is talking of, only has around 8000 people. Which is NOT a like, but it is a very CLIQUELY place... I live in a city of around 500k. I do have families living in the same city, but there is breathing spaces... and you do feel like you don't always be on top of each other in disagreements sometime. For such a small community to survive, they need to commute to nearby areas to work, and to play. Otherwise, they will drive each other crazy. This is why, sometimes, it is good to be in an actual union... So the whole parliament thing, and the whole... "you must speak out and to find out what else is going on" is important.. whether you're from a big city, or small town. Democracy is far more important.. and it is workable and doable. Decisions do get made.

  12.  @THEREALDANNYD  : Oh... ecommerce has been embraced in a big way in the UK... and MNC shops are also a thing as well... So Doncaster has turned into an actual warehouse city. This is why, the local population can't work in those stores any more. And nobody visits the local high streets.. And they aren't being first choice when it comes to employment either. This is also another thing in the UK... when I was growing up.. the local businesses WOULD employ local people, a lot more. Cos it focuses the taxes back into the same areas. But these days, as companies expand.. and people are trying to find that gap in earning. They would employ more out of town people, or foreign candidates. So this kind of sets back people livelihood a lot more too.

  13.  @Discount-Stonks  : You need to use Mega Bus... and then a local train connection. Or.. for example.... National Express, which is around a set standard return price of only 52 pounds return. It takes a while, but it can be split as well... if you're so inclined. i.e. Stop in another stop , stay one night, before carrying on upwards to Scarborough, for example. Can do this as a weekly trip !

  16. People have to remember that, because you are effectively flipping houses... then... this is going to cost you either way, any way as well ? A lot of people, aren't actually interested in flipping houses really...cos they know that they can't get back in... etc etc. The last time that there was a lack of freedom, people actually went to the USA to find new land... So yeh.. in an increasing saturated world... Where do you run ?

  17. Try and visit Broomhill, or also the Botanical gardens? People are a lot more lovely as well. So.... really nice. One thing though I have to say, I do like some Londoners, they are so efficient.. and decent. Especially coach drivers, and many of the logistics people. Literally... I thought that it's intence up North.. but deliveries are a lot more intense down South too. Sometimes I wonder how it all functions. Especially the trains as well....

  23. Really ? Just what is going on here? For a small house like this, how come people don't do this up. Wrap it up.. and then rent it to some student or youngsters, someone that could commute from Doncaster to Sheffield or something. And yeh.. it is a nice small place to start off with... and then run a car for work as well. People need to consider being socially mobile you know. Even the train tickets from Doncaster to Sheffield is not that much. It doesn't cost that much either. Lots of people commute out of their city for work. I am a bit shocked at what people don't do or don't consider at all ?? I've lived out in the Black Country areas, and my colleagues used to be like from miles away. Around 60 mile journey as well ! One guy travelled from the East side.   26. I was quite sad to see Cafe Uno gone... so... and then, the business rates is too high.. .tbf... so... A thriving city should've had both small and big shops etc. But the Selfridges and the Harvey Nics.. isn't as good as the London ones. If I recall... so... And then the rest are just chains. Even the Chinatown has changed... so many people have left as well. The decent restaurants have gone... So sad to see that happen. In 1995... many stores were depressed too. So.... and I tried my best too.. to get things going.. and I also contributed way too much. So... and it will keep going. FAR too much sometimes. So good luck to people who assume that it could happen again and again and again... So... For me.. I don't want to see this kind of thing any more. Am done. Wow... even Warhammer has gone upmarket? I realised that a NHS Dr, is a relative of the guy who is the CEO of THG.. dominating the entire supply chains across the UK. THG used to be a movie distributing data centres but now ended up as an actual data warehouse... And they were against the City... Why ? One single company dominated by the entire insurance market. The entire ... Analytics... The entire monetary system.... The entire energy sectors... What then why the F.... Should this company be respected ?... The guy that works as part of their team is also from Li and Fung too.... Destroying the CRM market by going direct to the insurance sectors. And everybody does e-commerce ????..... Recently, they bought out the actual City Am papers too. Talk about a conflict of interests and nobody inside the company is whistling blowing them off to destroy them from within.... So they take down the entire country, the market, the insurances, the whole country and they are not considered as terrorists at all ? How funny....

  36. I know a friend of mine, he left the UK with only 4k... and lives in Indonesia.. and has a wife, kids, and also actually a business. lol..... Sometimes I question myself too !!! lol....   39. This is the kind of hotels that I want to see in Blackpool. Very warm, wintry... and extremely well decorated... Scandinavian warm hospitalities.... and then of course, definitely have a swedish hot tub or something like that ! Think of the best hot saunas in cold places like in Northern Japan.   40. Even if a Londoner, say on 30-60k in London.... drives an EV car... that goes down there to work daily... and then live up North. He could save a lot of money. And then... his house or cleaning and gardening could provide a small little business, for their neighbours etc. While he does work. This was how Doncaster to London used to commute... and Doncaster is also on the M1 as well? Many of my old uni friends did things this way, and we didn't see a problem back then. Same with so many chinese groceries.. people used to drive on a weekly basis.. into London, to drive those stocks back up to sell in Yorkshire, or in Manchester. How come people could do things like that for like 20-40 years !!!! And yet, this generation cannot ??? That sounds very rubbish, doesn't it ? In fact... the Doncaster MP actually invited a Billings' Gate fishmonger to work up North to equalises things out. I say, good for them !! I personally want to see more and more of the so called dud chinese goods and boycott those, and to bring back more decent items as well.. like we used to have.

And that would be our holiday trip ! And that didn't cost an arm or a leg either. So.... Seaside trips would be via coach... and only if somebody locals would run them. Hays Travel used to run decent local trips. As well as coach drivers too. And this also kept B&Bs alive back then. Look at us now !!!! All gone Pete Tong !!   50. They can.. just that nobody bothers, or those who wants to, doesn't know how to ? And they don't know how to finance it? British politics are different to American ones... It is very complicated in all honesty. The other thing is also that, most of the times, you may get the funding, and then the money is spent.. on whatever fancy project.. and then nobody stays there. And again, it goes back down into a derelict state. So things do not continue ? It is like, there is no continuities.. whatsoever. I just realised how socially mobile, most people are in the UK. And most people tend to congregate in denser places. Yeh.. UK is very competitive in terms of businesses... Rather than merge companies and split off etc. It is a lot harder... and people won't give ways etc.
