My wife’s family is from WV and we visit. My biggest issue as a tourist is the huge litter, trash problem. Litter is in every ditch, river, creek etc. I called the governors office, DOT head and main park office. They all admitted trash is out of control and there is literally no recycling program in the state. Love the people and the beauty from afar is great just not when you look closer.

@duanejackson6718 works fine if you set your standards really low
37
@2pugman diversity the bane of low crime rates
34
@MrPriebster they better have plenty of money because our governor here is bound and determined to have mn be the highest taxed state in the nation. Someone has to pay for all his free stuff to his voting base
28
Big cities in general always attract groups who have a high propensity for criminal behavior regardless of which party runs the city
21
Years ago my wife and I flew east to see the fall colors and ended up in the Boston area. After hearing how rude drivers were there I was obviously concerned. Gotta say my experience was very positive. The drivers I encountered were courteous especially compared to the idiots I deal with in the mpls area.
15
You saved me from listening to him
15
Are you nuts. The quickest way to ruin your quality of life is to invite others to move there. Mn was ruined this way as was, Colorado,Idaho Texas etc
14
@Manetho72 I live here and I can attest to that. We are now the highest taxed state in the country I believe based on the recent session at the capital
14
In many of these states it depends on where you live . Illinois may have Chicago but the whole state is overtaxed. As to crappy cities he mentioned he didn’t bother to mention the demographics which determine crime in each and every one
14
When discussing Spokanes crime rate it would be informative to know the demographics of who are committing the crime
13
Most people forget ( or conveniently ignore) that all states survive on tax revenue. It just depends on what “ tax” affects you the most. Unfortunately property taxes are going to be there unless you are living in a tent. States without income tax make it up in many ways,
11
NY, NJ, Ma, DE come to mind
11
Social security hardly keeps up with REAL inflation.
11
Maines biggest threat is it’s close proximity to cesspools of big cities on the east coast which makes it likely to end up with transients
10
Birth control is a lot cheaper and easier than a painful abortion. No excuse whatsoever
7
@cur244 New England is low crime for one reason - low percentage of minorities who commit those crimes
7
Most likely due to people from expensive states buying homes which were more expensive then their last state ( most likely dem run states)
6
@JA-ni7ok I lived there in the mid 70s,had a great time and made good friends. It is a beautiful state just screwed up by politics. I moved back to the Midwest where I belong
6
Alcohol abuse in Alaska is a major contributor to crime as the natives have big issues and those long dark days just have to contribute to depression etc
5
We were there a few yrs ago and I determined that as well. We did have a great time on Beale st however
5
@pamelahornick8108 I have to agree with that comment. Nursing homes are not always pleasant places. Both my mother in law and mother were in them ,waiting to die .
5
@jasonknight5863 I have lived in the metro area since 85 and have watched it go downhill for years. As certain groups have moved here and the party in charge caters to them crime has continued to happen. And it won’t stop, guaranteed
5
@squarewheel142 south Florida is Cuban
5
@MyLifeThai371 they are really good at that . The Yellowstone ski area is a great example. Been there.
5
As a retiree medical is a big decision as to where we move.
5
Our mpls inner city schools get literally twice as much in funding as outstate schools. And their results are still horrible even with minority teachers ( another thing they claimed would improve the outcome but didn’t ). You can’t throw money at every problem and expect positive outcomes
4
@omelborpon3159 the Kennedys owned Massachusetts for years.
4
@vantefrom870 politics breed corruption unfortunately
4
Ohio Troopers have always been big on speeding issues. I have found that the best way to avoid a speeding ticket is NOT speed.
4
@jgrysiak6566 however a friend of mine who lived there before he passed paid under 400.00 a year in property taxes on a 50 acre farm. I pay 3500.00 a year on a house here in mn.
4
Horrible to hear that. Cane toads are invasive species and need destroyed.
4
This guy says so much which is wrong but not going to address it
4
@Reverend Boaz Asians will always stick with their own and hire those like them. There is a reason ( in part ) that Japan is over 96% homogeneous and Korea over 98%
3
Every state has its pros and cons. For me Floridas cons outweigh the pros. To each his own.
3
Tarpon Springs is a great visit but not going to live there .
3
Went to the Boston area about ten years ago and heard about the motorists were. Hell, they were a lot more courteous than here in the Mpls area. They would let you out of side roads etc.
3
That would be my thought as well. After all states all need revenue and get it somehow. Each person needs to look at the overall picture as to what aspect of those “ taxes “ affect them the most
3
Some customers can be worse
3
@watcher256 as I said ,the governors office told me that. And I understand about the aging issue.
3
@importedemperor4397 and the Dept of Education can be added to that. I’m not anti union but the teachers union is out of control and like many are too powerful with the wrong agenda imo.
3
@jgrysiak6566 outrageous especially the way politicians spend those funds.
3
@athos1974 I love the blues and imo the best came from the 50s- 70s. And I don’t care what generation one falls into.
3
SD is a great state in many ways. I know liberals who say we need to raise taxes to pay for social programs but moved there to avoid taxes. Just proves my point Dems spend your money not theirs
3
Should be titled “ why liberals are moving to get one more red state “ because it has a better quality of life
3
@Rhaspun in mpls it essentially did as dozens of cops quit, dozens retired, dozens transferred to other localities.
3
@jasonknight5863 would love to move but my kids and grandkids are here and my and I can’t agree anyway where we would want to move. Her brain is stuck entirely in Ohio where she grew up. There is absolutely nothing there for me to do as I like to fish, hunt, canoe, boat etc. imo the people are great but all I would end up doing is hanging in bars out of boredom. And once we move she would want to run back to Mn to see the kids every month. I’m kind of screwed 😫😫
3
Destin has crazy traffic in the off season. Can’t imagine the traffic during the busy season. You are obviously left leaning and that area is heavily retired military which traditionally isn’t left leaning. Good luck. Finding a place that fits your needs isn’t as easy anymore ( I have the same issues )
2
@frequentsee3815 and a good thing as “ diversity “ never brings good regardless the claims
2
I grew up in Ohio when manufacturing was a large employment base. My town had so many factories for the blue collar sector that one could quit their job one day and have a new one the next. That went away around the mid 70s or so. As a sportsman there is no longer many places to hunt and other than Lake Erie no good places to fish either. Ohio people are generally great people however. I would never move back as it is a boring place to live for my lifestyle. All they have is sports which suck imo.
