  1.  @JingleJangleJam  Yes I've read several of Keegan's books. War has a brutalising effect on people and the nature of warfare changed with revolutionary France, now not just armies fought but whole societies which supported them were also targeted, when the 20th century began with the Boer war 95% of casualties were still military and 5% civilian, by the end of that century the mechanised lawnmower of death was in full flow and by Gulf war 1 those statistics were neatly reversed, that's a lot of brutalised people. I agree that in essence there was little difference morally between Auschwitz and Hiroshima but y'know Vae Victis.

I can't remember but it could've been your mention of Keegan that prompted it, History of Warfare perhaps? I was shocked when I read it, but WW2 opened the floodgates for the massacre of civilians and then Vietnam Yugoslavia Rwanda and now Gaza, it goes on and on. It really is despicable that non combatants are baring the brunt of war.

  14. Great hearing another Aussie opinion on the war (besides Perun lol), found myself continually nodding in agreement. If Trump wins the US becomes an unreliable ally and Australia must develop it's own nuclear deterrent.
