@furrysharker Pelle Lindbergh of The Philadelphia Flyers. IIRC, he was rendered brain dead. Lindbergh had led The Flyers to The Stanley Cup Final a few months before his death. At 26, Lindbergh seemed poised to be a long time star. As a puck head, Lindbergh's demise cleared the way for Ron Hextall.

I remember seeing one or two FJ40s when I was a kid in the 80's. Toyota took the Landy formula of simple and everything and made it even more reliable. The FJ40 is so quiet and undramatic. It could go forever. The same reliable, soulful vibe that made Beetles so beloved.

This beauty is all about happy Tifosi noises. That engine roar is intoxicating. A proper GT that can go 100 mph all day without issue in comfort. This Ferrari is no flash. You have made it and nothing else needs to be said.

200 HP in a 2000-2100 lb. car? Rocket ship! The car and its bits seem well tuned. The waste gate is barely audible. Most 1970-80's turbos were "Nothing....nothing....Light Speed....Plaid!!" This GTi's turbo seems like someone dropped a V6 in the engine bay. If there wasn't a boost gauge, you would not know that VW had a turbo, except for "the whoosh" of the waste gate. My favorite part is that this GTi appears from the outside to be bone stock. Well done sleepers are the best.

This car is from the year that I was born. Just tight and fully sorted. This car said that you had wealth and class. A beautiful Grand Tourer that can do 100 mph+ all day.
8
I hear that engine and envision Eau Rouge, Monaco, Silverstone and more. Just amazing.

Thank You Tedward!! I got a huge smile when I saw that thumbnail. I have not seen that gen MR2 in about 5 years. This car is a forgotten classic. Light as can be with "just enough power." Grippy and docile. Put this on an autocross or back road and let the fun begin!
8
This is a proper executive car. Understated without flash. Tons of room and comfort above all. It's a Crown Vic with a lot more power and no floating ride.

Corvette as fastest car in the world 30 years ago sounded plausible. I mean The Callaway Sledgehammer was bonkers enough to do it. But The McLaren F1 does 250 mph and gear heads were stunned because it didn't seem possible. Especially with early 90's technology. This ZR1 is a drivable car that can be used for a daily. The Dodge Viper was a sledgehammer whose job was to try to kill you. The ZR1 is almost modern in its drivability. Also-405 HP in 1994 was the moon. 300 HP was a big MAGIC number. 400 HP was jaw dropping. But that V-8 burble is just the best!

No champagne fridge? Whatever would I do? /s

The MC20 reminds me of old super cars like Countaches. Not practical, almost no rear visibility, and questionable practicality. Driving a MC20 is NOT easy and you really need to have some driving skill. The MC20 has some "nervoso" Italian for nervous and twitchy. That car has some character and isn't sterile. You will definitely remember driving a MC 20. The MC20 sure isn't German!

I love how the speedo just bouncing around as if to give an estimate the Mark II's actual speed.
7
Tedward with the best adult sized MatchBox cars. This Rolls is almost ALMOST stealthy-for a Rolls.
7
That engine reminds me of the V10 screamers that were in F1 cars. The only only other car with that wail is the banshee in the LFA. I grew up with Naturally aspirated BIG V8s, so a naturally aspirated engine just sounds and hits differently. The R8 looks ordinary yet seductive. Many super cars are just track demons with hard suspension. Otherwise those track demons are not good on regular roads. The R8 can do a track day but it's able to go for a daily drive or a day trip. The pinnacle of "let's see what we can do with no money as no object yet make it livable."

Back when Mercedes still seemed to be word of mouth for advertising. Pure class. The car said you had money and were smart. This Mercedes is low key and that is enough.
6
The S430 and W220 is a proof of concept. It won't be as "sorted out" as future Mercedes because the S430 was the first edition. I would figure that the "average" S class would have had a V6. the S430 is a Grand Touring cruiser. Hit the highway, dial in 70 mph, and go all day. The cup holder? That is pure German. "Why make something? Just overengineer the heck out of it. Sorted."
6
I hope your Si isn't jealous Tedward. I grew up with Mk1 and Mk2 GTis, the original Si. This new Si looks like a Sci fi starship to me. Wow. Take your kids round the curves with you!!
6
This is wonderful. The story of people. I never think about Beetles as cars. I remember driving in my father's '68 Bug with him. That human connection elevates engineering to something more.
6
Tedward, That is a nice piece of engineering. I am not ready to go full electric. But this Civic Hybrid looks like a winner. Comfortable, just a bit sporty and great gas mileage. I just wish Tedward had taken that Civic to see The Wall of Champions. What a missed oppritunity. /s
6
That ain't a truck, it looks like a Transformer.
6
I remember the original Hummer from 20 years ago. Garish, over the top, and fascinating. The ultimate "LOOK AT ME!!" Hummer is back as an EV? It's still a rolling aircraft carrier and absurd beyond reason. I expect Tedward to be crushing Prisuses, Yarises, and more with that Hummer.
6
20 years ago, 400 HP with that suspension and all around everything was something. Now, this car looks in great shape. Tedward as a Hoonigan sounds entertaining.
6
Every other car adds all sorts of luxury goodies. This car? What can we take away? The bare minimum-add lightness and make it a go kart.
6
I always loved how Lotus with The Elise and Evora are all "what can we take away?" It's all about lightness and cornering like a champ. There is no other car like a Lotus.
6
When your toddler insists on traveling at top speed to Pre-School AND The Nordschleife.

As a young guy, I remember the 3-cyl as the land of the Geo Metros and econoboxes. Not fast, NOT SEXY, and farthest thing from cool. Tedward, when you said that The GR had a 300 HP out out of a 3 cyl? I fell out. One a 3 cyl is quick? 300 HP? HOW? I am just glad that Type R is understanding that, no matter what, you come home to it.
5
Many Lancias had quirks that were just features. So much more interesting than anything from the last 10 years.
5
To quote Clarkson, "POWAAAHHHH!!!!!" Funny thing is that even with all of the power, this Maybach seems refined. Tedward, you have the best toys.
5
The G-Wagen will always be the perfect vehicle for Bond lackeys/bodyguards.
5
@planej6315 I know that car. Power by a Ford 351.
5
2000 RPM at 70 MPH? WTF? Now THAT is hunkered down.
5
AI Designs is the ultimate toy shop. Literally "if you can dream it, we can make it." But you will pay handsomely.
5
Give an old school G-Wagen.
5
The super high revs has me thinking the engine note is a combo of motor bike and F1 car. I like it!
5
In the South, a supercharger is a blower. That said-that engine and that blower is outrageous!! The engine is so modified that must cost more than my mom's car. That engine gave me flashbacks to the original "Mad Max." The last of The V8s! Someone told the engineers and mechanics, "See what you can do." They took it personally!
5
This looks like something Arnie or Sly would have driven in 80's action flick. The Land Rovers and G63s are "higher class" and snobbish. Put those in Bond films. This Jeep is something that my 8 year old inner child would love.
5
Don't worry Tedward, that car is hot stuff! You extremities will be fine! /s
5
I remember the original Viper from 1992. 8.3L engine that must have been from a monster truck. 400 HP in 1992 was in the stratosphere! A Corvette had a 5.7L V8 at the time with 300 HP. A Testarosa was 390HP and 120,000k bucks at least. The Viper was $50,000 new. LOL The Ferrari was a refined cruiser with all the comforts and fragility of an exotic. The Viper was a sledgehammer. Fast with some seats. The Viper was raw and hilarious. I was just in awe. A bonkers show car that was actually built for sale.
5
Most "replicars" have been atrocious. Chuck Beck has a clear idea of the original car and an idea of how to make the replica. There are no short cuts!!It looks "tight." It was made with care by folks who loved the original and that love shows. 160 HP in a fiberglass flyweight is 300 HP in a normal sized car. Amazing.
5
This car reminds me of the 911s that I grew up seeing as a kid. Light, nimble, could go all day, with a manual. Me? Weakened left side so I have no clutch foot. The paddle shifter because it's what I can use. But if you want a manual, you should be able to have it.
5
The speedo and tach are giving their best estimates-as usual. Literally YMMV
5
The Clownshoe!! All curves and no straight lines it seems. German cars have never looked this curvy and wonderfully bonkers. This car can corner and go like Hell. Nothing else like it.
4
Old school Mercedes where everything was over engineered. The doors went THUNK. The windows were silent and sealed. Acceleration was "adequate." This old car is understated class.
4
As good as the Porsche is Tedward, you got to have it around Road America? My jealousy is piqued. /s As always Tedward, you have the best toys and the best playgrounds. I bet your bucket list is pretty awesome too.
4
This is a great cruiser. Comfortable, lots of storage space for a Porsche. Drop the top and hunker down. What I love most about this car is that the gauge cluster and most things are analog in presentation. I love that.
4
Tedward has all of the best toys.
4
Well no matter the powertrain, a Hummer is the size of a continent. Now THAT is continuity.
4
I am remembering 80's 911s from when I was in High School. This 992 is a callback in so many good ways. The damn trunk is useable! faint Sure, this 992 is the base car. But it could shred most other cars in corners or on a track.
4
Tedward, does The Civic Si ever jealous about you driving all of these performance and ultimate cars?
4
190E Cosworth.
