  4. The Bronco II is the first truck that was "luxury." Before that, trucks were work vehicles for the farm or ranch. Utilitarian and no flash as tall. Like Australian Utes, "Church on Sunday, sell on Monday." When I was a small boy, a "foreign truck" was not a thing. It was a Chevy C-10 or Ford F-150 with a bed and, maybe, a cap on the bed. That truck was "just more" sophisticated than a tractor.

  7. Ahh memories. The Alfa is just odd and it's charming from that. If anyone designed a car like The Spider today, they would be shot into orbit. But The Italians designed it in The Sixties. That means The Alfa Spider has "Character." Tedward, you must now find an Alfa GTV6. That driving position is straight out of a large city bus!

  10. The 911 is a formula that has been refined and tweaked for so long. I had thought that the 911 was at its apex then I saw this version. I usually don't like cars with all the lights and gizmos. I remember life before them, ya know. But this 911 integrates all of its parts so well that everything was meant to be here.

  11. That Carrera was a dream car for me. I was 15-16 when that Porsche was built. I wanted the convertible. I ended up getting a 1983 Toyota Corolla 4 Door in DARK BROWN. Thanks mom. I remember manual steering. The road feel was pretty good. But low speed steering and parking lots was HEAVY. Great workout. The tech we have now didn't exist for a freshly made 1988 Porsche. I do miss the visceral connection. I understand safety and pillars. But many cars today are isolating. Numb. I would be too emotionally attached to that Porsche to sell it.

  15. This engine sounds amazing. This is a favorite car not only for quality and its ultimate touring. But 2007-8 was the last moments before every instrument and dash went full iPad touchscreen electronic. Drivers are isolated from the road and everything is numb.

  18. I remember growing up with 300Es, 240Ds, and The Mercedes Cosworth. This Mercedes is built like a tank. The THUNK of the closing door. This car is not an ornament. It lowkey says that the owner has style and sophistication.

  20. My dad had a '99 SLK. Decent cruiser. The SLK was more for show. Its thing was the automatic retractable roof. That was the party piece and utterly incredible for the time.

  27. Tesla is interesting for its engineering. But their cars feel soulless to me. I will wait until it has the refueling time and range of a gas powered car. With the push to all electric cars, their weight and battery charge times will go down. Battery range will go up. Tesla is like most tech companies led by a megalomaniac CEO. Tesla cars look great, but have almost nothing under the surface.

  34. Ahh The J Gate shifter!! My mom had a 1987 XJ6 and that shifter caused so much controversy!! This car is the last proper Jag to me. A simple grand tourer with wood and leather for days. All hail the mono wiper. The combo of grunting V8 and whining blower sounds fantastic. The Mercedes wiper would be a four part multi-hinge because The Germans would overengineer a lunch box.

  36. The XJ120is just beautiful. It was a clean sheet of paper and engineering. Now? Regulations make cars safer and more efficient. Lovely. But that XJ has soul.

Drive as you can and enjoy it. Tedward, you are living the dream of many a car nerd. I know that it can be a demanding enterprise, but it's your show. Tedward, if I had a foot that could work a clutch well, I would love a Miata and a 2005 Pontiac GTO. But I am here doing my best and able to vicariously through you. The pill bottle? Getting old can suck. Let that car keep you young.

  43. When Tedward opened the door, I said, "Holy S***, it's Grand Theft Auto!!" I could never get a super car because of all of the anxieties about scraping, bottoming out and more. A Lambo is a halo car that is always an occasion. Streetable is a marketing term.

  48. I am amused as the image of a car seated toddler geeking out as their caregiver just floors this car. So many use touchscreens on smart phones that all the screens is an obvious input choice. 18 year old me in 1990 would be floored at 600 HP at all the LED screens. It's that 400 HP was the moon long ago and 600 HP can be put on the road safely. All the LEDs look Sci Fi and not C4 Vette meh. My concern is that there is too many functions. I admit that I have executive functioning issues. There are so many procedures that I am a bit overwhelmed. What to do? My other worry is that you take your eyes off the road using a touchscreen for functions.

  50. Many modern cars deaden the sense of speed. You know you are going fast and then faster-but.... This 356 could be doing 40 mph, but it seems like 80 mph. You are low to the ground, out in the air, and fully engaged in a way that modern cars don't possess.
