Tedward-this Range Rover is for The Bond Villain needs a station wagon and a track car.
2
I remember "Top Gear" hucking a Z4m into corners and letting the tail get out. The Z4m looked like a lot of fun.
2
I have noise sensitivity. Nothing awful. Loud ringers and startle stuff. That seat squeak would drive me bonkers.
2
24 second 0-60? The only car that could do that on the regular in my life was my father’s 1968 Beetle. This Mercedes is so far away from my father’s Bug.
2
There is so much sizzle and so little steak. There are so many technologies added for little benefit. It just hurts any reliability of that vehicle. The video display can't keep up with an a speedo or tach. Maybach is a Mercedes and $20,000-because.
2
We have to realize that this XK120 is 65 years old. It was also the state of the art when it was built. This car is a time capsule. Granted, some of the interior looks a bit rough. But this car is old enough to be a parent or grandparent for most of us!
2
I just visualize Clarkson saying "Jaaaaaaagggg."
2
This car needs some “Led Zeppelin II” or “Rocks” by Aerosmith while driving and it achieves total Zen.
2
@TedwardDrives NICE! My dad was a DJ at a radio station in Manchester, NH in the early 70’s and was an MC introducing Aerosmith at a show when they were still very regional.
2
I remember the WW2 generation having LTDs, Crown Vics, and more floaty boats as a kid. This Bentley makes those LTDs look like dinghys. Lay back in your seat and think of The Empire.
2
The sound of that V10 is the only soundtrack that's needed.
2
This car is a long lost descendant of the original Dodge Viper. Brutal and as subtle as a sledgehammer. That makes this Trans Am utterly glorious.
2
Forget The Aston, this is the ultimate James Bond car.
2
I know it's wrong, but I swore The Elise engine was descended from the Camry at some point. The idea of a go kart with a grocery getter engine is absurd and hilarious. The only other car that is more locked in as a track monster probably The Ariel Atom. I see The Elise and I get a big goofy smile.
2
I am 5'8" Driving up that high would be great. I have gone to so many concerts at clubs and there is always someone 6'2" in front of me!
2
About stupid drivers- "If you consider how stupid the average person is and half of em are dumber than that." George Carlin
2
Somewhere Jeremy Clarkson is screaming "POWWWWAAAAHHHHHH!!!"
2
I am so in love with all of the analog gauges. There are plenty of electronics in the engine, suspension and elsewhere. But they seem working in the background and letting you have a tactile experience. I miss that.
2
This is a James Bond car. I want the oil slick, ejection seat, smoke screen, and more or no deal.
2
@Postbus22 I was wondering about The Doug Score. He would be finding quirks for DAYS.
2
My dad had a XJ8. It was a long haul cruising tourer with a great V8 sound. This F-Type has a great sound and seems a "bit" manical. You can toss the F-Type into corners!
2
Lancia was great with the slightly bizarre engineering. Like no one else.
2
This Z8 is an homage to so many older cars. The 507 (duh), Jag E-Type, MkII, Mercedes 6.3. Cars that could really "go," but were luxurious enough to be "gentleman cruisers." That phrase is so 60's. The only thing I remember from "The World is Not Enough" is that The Z8 was a perfect Bond car. Though the 750il caused some Bond fans to just lose it because "a BMW IS NOT BRITISH!!! ARGH!" I also have a sense of my mom's 1987 XJ6 with the J-Gate shifter. My dad's 1999 Mercedes 230K. The convertible hardtop was wizardry. I still miss my dad's XJ8. V8 and could cruise all day. This Z8 is a dividing line. Sure, electronics are everywhere, but not the main part of the show. I am going to old man screaming at clouds. Current cars with their electronics and infotainment screens put an emotional distance between driver and car. This Z8 seems more connected and I am part of the experience and not isolated from it.
2
007 should demand this as his car.
2
Tedward, this is my high school lust object in car form. Unadorned, NA engine, and light for a 911. Take away things and leave a simple platform that is good as a daily or for some lightweight track work. There is a secondary industry for modding and repairing 911s into any number of desires. That would not easily occur with a car built today.
2
I love how this Porsche is a "good" time machine. The formula was nailed and air tight. Sound? Pure theater. The car has all you need and nothing that is not needed. Are you sure that Colin Chapman didn't consult in this car's design?
2
This DB9 is just a great cruiser. Tons of torque where it seems effortless. Just a comfortable interior. The DB9 could cruise all day. The only limits are driver endurance and fuel in the tank.
2
The henchman of any Bond villain will look amazing as 007 manages to flip that Bentayga in some over the top explosion. As is tradition.
2
Whenever I see an Aston Martin, I think, "Bond, James Bond."
2
@TedwardDrives Killjoys. Then what's the point? Deploying a battalion of kids at the next play date does not sound nearly as fun. /s
2
The 911 and E92 are taking a long winter's nap. Sleep well.
2
My father had a '68 Beetle when I was a kid in the 80's. Not super refined. The engine had that loud sputter and that Beetle was rock solid dependable. The Beetle's engine was a dry run for the 911's flat six, correct?
2
Everyone has "that thing" that they adore. Sure we have a nice car. But we always think that it can be "that much better." Getting the right settings dialed in is a obsession all it's own.
2
Just call that truck The Beast. I still want to see crushed Priuses and Minis.
2
This Maybach should be a villain's car on a James Bond movie.
2
The most beautiful bank vault you'll ever see.
2
There is ultimate, and then Maybach. Doug DeMuro would lose his mind with all the quirks and features.
2
"Don't be a BMW." 🤣🤣🤣🙃
2
Tedward gets to play with all the best toys! But, I wonder which car would Santa drive?
2
People starting car companies to compete with Ferrari was its own industry. Enzo was combative and pissed off many. You had Gio, Bizzarrini, Lamborghini and so many more building cars.
2
Jay Leno's Garage just dropped a video on the 2024 Type S as well. Tedward, I won't tell Jay that are that much cooler. It's a secret. /s
2
This or an XK120 just for the noise from that engine!!
2
I swear that Tedward is filming a trailer for the "Grand Turismo" movie. But I could be wrong.
2
This 914-6 is a car that could be doing 40 and you swear it's going faster. 2100 lbs and 110 HP is quick. This 914-6 is not a drag light show off. It's a go kart and so much fun. That super orange color just screams "70's."
2
Tedward, have you adopted a kids soccer team?
2
Tedward gets to play with life size Matchbox cars and we get to come along.
2
"Adult men parading around in a golf cart! Careful I might be going 25!" Tedward, at that moment, you are my spirit animal.
2
That 356 is, what, 1800 lbs? The engine is 100-115 HP? Perfect for cutting corners and scooting. It's a different philosophy than many and that's cool. Tedward? I wouldn't share either.
2
I know that it’s not, but that looks like the most awesome go kart in existence. If that ride a long wasn’t fun to you, time to do some introspection.
2
I appreciate The Ferraris, BMWs and Porsches. But I would take a Miata every time. You can stretch one out and safely use all of it. A Miata is almost more thrilling at 40 mph than it would be at 80 mph.
