  6. Architecture that tells a story? The first one that comes to my mind is Favela, the slum surrounding Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It's organic, vivid, and most importantly, it's built by the people who live it and not by architects. Structures are constantly taken down and re-piled up. It may not be pretty, but it's alive. All architects face a dilemma -- they need to come up with a grand plan before capital can be committed. So they "imagine" who's going to use it and how, just to create a narrative for the plan. But once it's built, there's little validation of their theory, as the chance of taking down and rebuilding a brand new skyscraper is zero.

  21. Kevin failed to differentiate Chinese ruling class from the general public. The rulers are more concerned about their own people (or the rise of them) than conflict with US. When people get rich, they will want more freedom and they will detest all the censorship, thought control, and propaganda, which the rulers rely on to rule. Hence the mass immigration. China is more likely to implode, hopefully peacefully, than to go to war with US.
