The fast and widespread growth of Islam religion in recent history into Europe, southeast Asia, and even America can be attributed to the mass migration of Islam population due to regional conflicts or whatever reason. How much assimilation should be required for the newcomers becomes a serious topic for the governments of the receiving countries.

  29. Christianity in the middle ages was indeed scary, which then triggered renaissance, enlightenment, and reformation. The last 5 centuries has been a long secularization process in the Western world. Today very few Christians believe the Bible literally, or even read it at all. Too bad Islam hasn't gone through the same reform. If it's not for their oil, most of the Muslim world will be living in the medieval times with living standard equivalent to that of Africa.

  32. Jail is not the place to prepare young people for the society. School is. Jail is to deter people from committing crimes. If one wants to prepare himself/herself for the society, go to school, not jail. He talks about jails should have art and music programs for the inmates. Well, you should go to school to learn those. Besides, if our jails have successful art and music programs they may attract more young people to commit crimes (in order to enter the programs). I think his mistreatment in jail is exactly why he'll try not to return to jail again. So it works.

  40. This guy still doesn't get the point. It's not about different beliefs or ideologies. It's about TRUTH that can be scientifically examined. Anyone who insists that gender is just a social construct, and denies that men are taller and stronger than women is delusional. (And anyone who's going to tell me this woman is taller and stronger than that man therefore I'm wrong is plain stupid.) As to racial differences, the TRUTH is sometimes too sensitive to bring up. But that doesn't make it untrue, which is the beauty of scientific truth.

Plebian Hero That's because either 1) the difference is not yet extreme (e.g. someone insists you dress a certain way or not eat certain food, or even wants to cut your head off because of who you are), or 2) the community hasn't been lived close enough (e.g. does your community share one kitchen? one bathroom?)

In that case, I suggest her to also talk to girls on the opposite side in that part of the world -- those who strongly defend the values of their fathers and husbands over literacy or independence. I'm more curious in what they think. Can't assume every girl wants what you want.
