She didn't say anything we don't already know, and she didn't try to explore the root cause of this problem. So there's nothing new here. In that case, I suggest her to also talk to girls on the opposite side in that part of the world -- those who strongly defend the values of their fathers and husbands over literacy or independence. I'm more curious in what they think. Can't assume every girl wants what you want.
