  5. Seeing as the English Channel has existed for millenia wasn't it smart of the British to develop the world's most powerful navy to defend it's shores? If we'd have been connected to the continent then we would, like all of the major continental European powers, have developed huge land armies instead. Remember that while the Romans, Vikings, Anglo Saxons and Normans were able to cross the seas to conquer Britain, the French Spanish and Germans could not. Why do you think that was?

They did their bit, They'd been filtered through 9 months of previous combat so only the better Polish pilots made it to the UK, and they had the most combat experience of all the allied pilots, though the rest quickly caught up with them. But we still thank them for their service, which is witnessed at every rememberance day parade in the Uk, where the Polish nation was ALWAYS well represented.

Or how the Wehrmacht stood poised to launch its invasion of the Indian sub continent or Canada? Or how the Kriegsmarine attempted to strangle the British Empire out of the war by enforcing a u-boat blockade of Australia and New Zealand? Oh news just coming in...... NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAPPENED because the ONLY nation facing ALL of those threats between July 1940 and April 1941 was Great Britain ALONE.

NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAPPENED because the ONLY nation facing ALL of those threats between July 1940 and April 1941 was the United Kingdom ALONE. The Commonwealth was in 1940 mostly a distant vocal supporter. The defence of the UK in 1940 was maintained by 95% British troops and citizens. It was another year or so before the commonwealth contribution in Europe REALLY began to kick in. I'm happy to have been of help in filling in the gaps in your knowledge of the subject.

  42. What a complete pile of BS. When were they "forced out of the UK"? Go read about the 1947 UK Polish resettlement act from the UK Govt legislation website, It was the act of parliament that conferred in UK law FULL UK citizenship and residency rights (including access to ALL welfare benefits) to ALL Polish service personnel who had served in the British armed forces during WW2 AND their families. Not ONE Polish soldier/airman/sailor was forcefully repatriated at the end of WW2. A small number did understandably CHOOSE to return to their homeland and lived to regret that decision. Please remember the maxim "It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt".

  45. Great Britain bent over backwards to prevent an escalation of the almost inevitable death and destruction, unfortunately sometimes the other side is just gagging for a rumble and won't take "no" for an answer. The "other side" were sorry they did though.

You're talking to someone whose father fought in WW2, and whose grandfathers fought in WW1. Don't try to lecture others about wearing uniforms. People who "wear uniforms" and fight usually do so so that the majority DON'T HAVE TO, They're also likely to fight against governments and organisations who wish to enslave you and remove your civil liberties. The problem arises when your OWN government decices to remove your civil liberties. IF you're so frightened of your own shadow, and winter sniffles, and thinking for yourself, and prefer to have an authoritarian administration make your decisions for you, why not apply for a visa and go live in North Korea?

  50. People still had private lives during the battle. It was handled tastefully and in proportion. There are so many subtle nods to masses of different aspects of the battle hidden in the film.
