Try Mint and Manjaro. Use what you liked best.

Google Nexus 5 is still usable. I'm using it right now! You can't play Fortnite on it (of course) but it works just fine. The last security update was is 2016 tho...

There are a lot of us :-)
3
Yep! Foxit Reader or Sumatra PDF!
3
Yes! :-)
3
Good point :-)
2
Use both! :-)

+Kevin Cerda Go to DistroWatch.com andf look for most popular distro. Try first 5 or 10 and choose what you liked best.

Me too! But if you like adventures - try to install some Linux distros on USB drive as Live! Try Mint. It's super easy (it will not erase your data if you will not install it on your HDD): 1. Download Universal USB Installer. https://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ 2. Run it! 3. Choose Linux Mint. 4. Download Linux Mint 19 (64 bit) with Cinnamon Desktop Environment. 5. Select your just downloaded ISO file. 6. Select your USB drive (4 Gb minimum, USB 2.0 minimum) 7. Set Persistent File to the max (around 4 Gb) 7. Hit "Create" - all data from USB will be lost! 8. Reboot from your USB and have fun! If you liked it - you can do full install. If you just want to mess around (like me) - just keep using USB drive. If you don't like it - just format you USB and you're fine!

Manjaro is a good Arch-based distro. It's like Arch, but already working and with fixed model. Antegros is Like Arch, but already working with rolling model. But sometimes not working (((

I could clean some things up (but not all): * Terminal is what you see if you would load your OS without Desktop Environment. It's a "container" for a Shell. * Terminal Emulator is an application that emulates a Terminal. You can't start a "real" Terminal inside a Desktop Environment - only an Emulator * Shell is a "language". That's how you communicate with your OS through the Terminal (or Terminal Emulator) * CLI is a Shell * In windows CMD is a CLI/Shell that runs in Terminal Emulator called Windows Console * PowerShell is a Shell that uses .NET Framework (versions < 6.0) or .NET Core/.NET (in versions >= 6.0) to communicate with an OS (through Windows Console) * Windows Terminal is a replacement for Windows Console (but it's classified as a Terminal Emulator) and the closes thing to a Linux Terminal Emulator. It's Open Sourced (as PowerShell v6.0+) and could run CMD, PowerShell, WSL (even at the same time!).

You can kill a process in any language - here is an example for C: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6501522/how-to-kill-a-child-process-by-the-parent-process

NoScript or uBlock Origin
1
Any links?
1
@s8wc3 I checked this site for myself and it also blinks like 1 time and then loads. That takes around 2 seconds tho. Maybe that why I never noticed that before. Still strange. Maybe it blinks for every picture it loads in it's collection.
1
Man! All browsers are getting rid of Flash! It's slow and insecure. Search for "Flash is dying?"
1
Try "Adblock Plus" for blocking adds Or "UBlock Origin" for blocking ads and some scripts Or even "NoScript" for blocking JS
1
I never saw the same problem... On my parents PC from 2008 He has some weak CPU and slow Internet
1
Also for old computers there is a Sumatra PDF
1
True
1
4 seconds for me
1
:-)
1
Just try NoScript ;-)
1
Adblock Plus for the rescue ;-)
1
@bitterlemonboy Ublock Origin is great too :-)
1
@ameynarkhede8264 CPU or RAM are not the problem. Slow 5400 RPM HDD is.
1
@ameynarkhede8264 I agree that Adobe Reader is VERY heavy. On Windows there are a better programs to open a PDF file: * Any web browser * Sumatra PDF * Foxit Reader On Linux ANY PDF reader is better than Adobe Reader! But some PDF's can't be opened in any program except Adobe Reader - in that situation you HAVE TO use that shit :-(
1
Well... not for his CPU :-)
1
For all Mac lovers: https://www.youtube.com/user/rossmanngroup/videos
1
So why I don't have this problem on 100 Mb Internet? and a i7 CPU from 2015 :-)
1
I would recommend TimeShift (uses rsync)
1
It's kinda good if: * You want to heavy edit the PDF * You PC is fast enought For "just viewing" a PDF use Sumatra PDF
1
No. He probably don't know about that because 20 years ago browsers didn't have those tools :-)
1
@deadliestvice5356 True. But there are some extensions like uBlock Origin or NoScript to help ;-)
1
It's time for an upgrade!
1
Companies just assume that people will buy new computers! :-) Some do, others don't. If you have an old PC and struggle with mainstream programs: Photoshop -> GIMP or Krita Illustrator -> Inkscape Reader -> Foxit Reader or Sumatra PDF MS Office -> Libre Office (disable the Java in Settings!) or WPS Office (only on Linux - Windows version has VERY annoing adware until you buy it!) Unity or Unreal Engine -> Godot Engine
1
@TheGodEmperorOfMankind_ True.
1
@rodi2641 :-)
1
Yep!
1
Just install NoScript and you are good to go
1
Shell runs inside a Terminal. Or if you already started a Desktop Environment - inside a Terminal Emulator.
1
Most modern OSes (with Desktop Environments) use 0.5-1 Gb of RAM so 2 GB is bare minimum. 4 GB is OK. 8 GB is preferable.
1
True. Just try some uBlock Origin or even NoScript to make web pages faster
1
Sure. Because Windows don't have Terminal Emulators (Windows Console) or Shells (CMD, PowerShell, Windows Terminal) :-)
1
True. His hardware and Internet are just... sad
1
Try Adblock Plus :-)
1
@ciroaldorisio8034 But how would a site owner make money?
1
@ciroaldorisio8034 So we as a community have to make some compromises. I'm ok with small adds banners (NOT animated) but I'm not ok with 10+ tracing scripts on one web page. So I just disable most of those :-)
1
@ciroaldorisio8034 True.
1
But today Internet speeds are much faster than in 2005 ;-) Not optimized sites are shit tho.
