We have an over-educated, over-qualified, over-entitled generation who believe most jobs are beneath them, only because they did three extra years of higher 'schooling'. But there's only ever been limited places in the top jobs at the upper levels of society. This isn't the beat(en) generation (my particular 1980s cohort) - This is the disappointed generation.

  31. If you don't seriously tackle recidivism and its causes, all this is for nought. How about improving probation and rehabilitation services, hostels, housing and rehousing, drug treatment centres, out-reach programmes, mental health services, job search opportunities? Why don't Labour look at the reasons why the UK has such a high prison population and such high levels of drug and gang crime? Do the job properly or not at all.

  48. Housing benefit goes straight to Housing Associations/landlords because if it went into a lot of people's bank accounts first...many folks out there wouldn't pay their rent.
