  1. The Reichswehr issued the Kar98b for bicycle troops. That was an odd gun because although it was called a carbine, and had a side mounted sling and turned down bolt handle, it retained the barrel and stock of a full length G98 rifle.

  2. Before motor vehicles were common bicycles allowed infantry to move more quickly than marching. And unlike horses, bicycles wouldn't wander off if left unattended when the soldiers dismounted to fight.
