  1. No the Swiss military designation was 7,5 GP11. 7.65 is probably 7.65x53mm Mauser, a popular cartridge internationally. As was "8mm Mauser" the 7.92x57mm for which the other rifle was chambered.

  2. Probably. The inherent accuracy issues of an open-bolt rifle would have made it unacceptable by the Swiss army. Whose obsession with accurate and precise shooting was legendary in the 1930s.
