  1. In the case of a Mills Bomb a bullet through the axis would probably hit the grenade's detonator, and set it off.

  2. Nothing. The SMLE could still fire ball ammunition, and even with a worn barrel, it would be more effective than a pistol for self defense at short range. Especially when used by a wartime conscript.

  3. These grenade launcher cups were used in the Far East well into the 1950s. Because they were time fused rifle grenades could be fired in jungle without risking premature detonation in the tree cover. As could happen with contact fused 2" mortar bombs.
