  1. The British equivalent was much simpler and easier to bring into action The base plate was smaller and hinged to the base of tube. And the tube was manually supported by the mortar man. There was a spirit level sight, but it was rarely used, and omitted from later production. The aiming mark was a white line painted on the tube. And the mortar man estimated the range by eye and experience.
