  3. Yes. The British did just that with a ZH-29 in 1939. As part of an experiment to see if full power rifles would be controllable in full automatic fire: They weren't.

  4. There were accuracy, and and reliability issues. Also the Great Depression; everybody was skint in the early 1930's. And the German Waffenamt would have rejected the ZH-29 because of the gas port in the barrel.
