  1. The British admired the 7.5mm Rubin bullet but wanted something heavier. Rather than mess with the aerodynamics, they kept the proportions of the bullet the same, while increasing the overall size. Resulting in an increase in calibre to 7.7mm.

  2. The .402 are known unofficially as Enfield-Martinis. Martini-Enfields are old .577-450 Martini-Henrys rebarrelled to .303.

  3. Although the 1886 Lee-Remington rifles were supplied in .43 Spanish they were rebarrelled, by Enfield, to .402 before the competitive trials.
